  • Amaysim currently deal $44 (unlimited call + 5G Data + first month $20 only). not as good as this, but the speed is quite good

  • I don't think this is a great deal for most people due to not being able to tether the data and the very slow 3G speed.

Is there any chance tethering? I can not have fixed line ADSL…

  • Anyone know the procedure for porting in the mobile number from another provider?

I got the Lyca SIM and registered (activated it). Do I call Lyca first or subscribe to the $19 Super Saver plan first?

    • When I went through the activation process today online it asked me if I wanted to keep or port another number. If you've already registered it means you didn't read the instructions and probably just clicked next on that step.

    • you can just call them up and port the number, but its a long wait… get a bluetooth headset ready if you have one. I had to wait around 30 mins before getting a operator.

BEWARE, DATA IS VPN BACK TO UK/EU & is S L O W…. call coverage is ok, but calls are also vpn'ed data to save call costs to the compnay -again not T$ awesome quality

Its true sometimes, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR

      This changes everything.

I think you should update the OP to state- NO 13 or 1300 numbers, and no MMS. These are important Facts

  • There's also a 1GB free bonus when you recharge $10 or more: http://www.lycamobile.com.au/en/free-calls-from-lycamobile-t…

"The customer will get maximum 1GB until the offer valid period. Offer valid until 28/02/2015. Unused Data will expire on 28/02/2015.

    Promotional valid from 24/01/2015."

EDIT: Posted it here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/180313

  • When they say no tethering does that mean no wi-fi hotspot?

    • Can't see why they would care whether you use a cable or not.

  • Telstra Wholesale works pretty much in the same way as the full network
that said the speed is capped on some providers and you don't get the benefits of the full telstra network ie 4g etc
850mhz is pretty much working everywhere but in my experience ive used boost mobile and never had a problem in telstra areas
they also use the less restricted 3g network which should give you at least 14.4mbit speeds
I know aldi mobile were capping their customers heavy to the slower 3.6mbit network, was okay for value but crap for any form of data / streaming
If you have jailbroken iphone tethering shouldn't be an issue on any provider :)

    • jailbroken iphone

I think the providers have moved beyond that by now…

  • Can get 25 GB ytes data from SimCorner if all you are after is rubbish connection to the UK. ..yeah I've stopped promoting both companies. GL. with the 100k net-additions now; that won't happen. Telstra notoriously sets up deals (Third parties) to fail.

  • This still work? when you go to recharge (linked on page you've linked) it only shows the usual $29.90 price.

  • +2

Buy recharge vouchers from Woolworths as they are currently 12% off

NO MMS. Garbage VPN'd data and much more. I should be paid to use such a terrible service.

    • +7

Hey, 2001 called, they want their MMS back.

Real ozbargainers don't use MMS, paying to send and receive, they use free WiFi hotspots and Viber/iMessage/whatsApp/hangouts.

      • +1

        Or email.

      • +3

correct, last time i use mms was 5 years ago…

      • I have unlimited mms and I use frequently to share contact data and calendar events for the oldies.

      • I use MMS all the time

    • +1

MMS I can adapt to, despite using it almost daily instead of fax at work.
But could you tell us more about the VPN'd data? Do you experience slower speeds regardless of time/area? If they do throttle it, how slow does it get?

You need to update the OP to state- NO 13 or 1300 numbers, NO MMS, and NO tethering. These are important Facts!

    It's misleading without it.

I'd hate to have signed up and then learn it…

    • Definitely! 13 numbers is a major factor for me. Probably going to stick with Lebara.

  • So will Lycamobile end up like Kogan Mobile? Surely Telstra won't and can't afford to compete with this kind of offering.

Quick Google of Lyca mobile reviews looks like it's not worth the headache regardless of the perceived "value" of the service.

THIS IS A SCAM! SCAM! SCAM! SCAM! SCAM! SCAM! SCAM!
I called Lycamobile and they told me the price of $19 only applies until Feb 26. After that ALL recharges go back to $29.90. Hence effectively only for the first month. As you all know no mention of this on thier web site. asked for someone senior to have the web site details corrected and they hung up on me. Complaint lodged with dept of fair trading. Also note that calls to 13 numbers are not included in the plan. they are an extra charge. even more reason to stay away from Lyca.

    • +2

      29.90 for 5gb with unlimited calls/ text doesn't sound like a scam.

Would love to hear someone's experiences with them.

      • +1

Legally - probably not a scam, but legality isn't everything.

Have you read this and the referenced WP threads?

Can't believe how many +'s this deal has. I wouldn't touch this deal with a Nokia 2110.

  • Do they offer voicemail with this plan?
    Whats the charges?

    • +1

Voicemail is free with lycamobile. The number is 121

      • Free to retrieve also,?

What if we are not on super plan would it be free?

        • +2

Free to retrieve. I've tested this out many times as I'm currently on lycamobile.

  • Which is better lycamobile or gtmobile then

My sim(s) just arrived, activated, topped up with this package and did a speedtest… 0.25mbps. The Telstra network locally is more around the 10-15mbps mark… Don't be fooled by the "we use Telstra's network coverage" crap. You get what you pay for I guess, back to my woolworths mobile (optus) 7-8mbps for me!

Edit: now 8.24mbps, though 465 ping (to a Melbourne server), not sure which is worse even.

The customer service is the worst I ever had!!!!
After more than 112 minutes waiting customer representative that cannot speak English ended up hanging up on me.
Currently I don't know what is going on with my porting request and I don't want to deal with Lycamobile anymore but I don't know how to stop porting request.
It is sad that this SCAM company was allowed to do business in Australia.

    • Wow. Try contacting your existing provider and telling them to deny Lyca's permission to port. (Maybe the TIO can help?)

  • Today I was lucky after 89 minutes waiting Indian operator she was able to speak basic English at least explained that my port in request was cancelled. She was not able to provide me any reason. When I politely asked to transfer my call to her managed she immediately hanging up on me.
Beware!!! It is a pure Indian company so not sure if it safe to give them credit card number.
Anyway as per my personal experience avoid them at any cost.

  • You cant tether with it. Also the $19 is only a gimmick for first month. You will be charge for excess data. This is the real killer. The speed is not that good either.

  • +1

Seems like a great deal but I had the same problem as others. I tried porting my number over and waited a day and a half, then called their customer service center and they said the porting request had been cancelled. They had no reason for cancelling my porting request and I spent about 65 mins on hold before they answered. After an hour on hold I was glad that they didn't port my number over. Will never use these guys again. Bodgiest phone company I've ever dealt with.

  • This is in the conditions: The customer will NOT be able to cancel the plan once the plan is activated/purchased.

  • Lycamobile does NOT seem to connect to ALL Telstra 3G network cells, only SOME.

I bought a new sim, ported a Telstra number to it, charged it up on the $19 plan and it worked fine in the Perth Metro, data included (did not try tethering). But when I tried to use it near Perenjori (a town in Western Australia's "Midwest") my phones (I tried 4 phones) showed the "no service" and "emergency calls only" messages. I also have a Boost Mobile sim (another Telstra re-seller) and it works OK at the same location… data, voice and SMS.

The location reports as "Telstra Ltd 3G" when performing a network search on the mobile phones. I've sent a message to Lycamobile technical service via their web page but of course no reply as yet, other than the "Contact us - Acknowledgement" message.

This is a deal breaker for me, I won't be recharging. :(

Seems another way in which it's a bit of a scam, really.

  • I switched from Boostmobile to Lya.Almost four days now Lyca couldn't port my existing number!
Call center tells me it takes 2.5 working hours of INDIA time!! You get notification of portins status only via sms and only when it successs. Not happy customer. I will switch back to Boost. Lyca also slow compare to Boost.

  • Are they still in business? I signed up 5 days ago with number porting. Immediately got msg in bad English saying port was done, which was rubbish. 5 days later still not active. Sent email 3 days ago, no response. Called call centre number, DISCONNECTED.

  • +1

im on it and love it… yes 3g sometimes is slow tho.. but hey 20$

  • Can somebody confirm that tethering doesn't work with these guys?

    • Tithering doesn't work.. at least in my iPhone 6. I'm back to Boost Mobile. I gave up waiting and making phone call to port my number from Boost to Lyca. Lyca T&CS

  • Just bought this, interesting to see how it goes.

Does anyone know how to cancel the auto renewal?

    Cheers.

  • Now it is the 27th of Feb. After the special date of 26/2/2015.

Has the plan been cancelled and changed back to $29.90?

    • Doesnt seem that way. Still $19 on website. My wifes new month starts today so we’ll see if $19 is charged

      • Well was it charged??

        • It came out as a confirmed payment of $19 :)

  • Hi, it would seem so wired, but after 3 weeks I have no more data on my super saver plan. I used all the 5 GB.
Does someone know if I can buy 2gb more by keeping my super saver plan active?
I'll try to explain: I'd like to keep free call and SMS, but with no more data, I'd like to buy 2gb.
I did try this, but the website said that I may only have one bundle active. So I'm afraid that if I buy 2 GB my super saver plan will be off
