Picked up the S4.
However
I tried to convince the store to give me the 9506 version instead of the 9505 that I was given initially.
The Sales assistance was puzzled and said there is only one S4.
He was hesitant to search the store room when I asked him to do so.
Upon return he said that there were no difference, then argued that it is locked to Vodafone and he does not want to sell me the locked phone.
I asked if I could get the 9506 anyway. He then said now that he cant sell me the Vodafone branded phone as it only is sold through contracts.
He then said that the bar code is different to the 9505, so there is nothing that he can do.
At the point I noticed that there is a queue slowly building up. So I took the 9505 and went my way.
It is still in sealed package. I suppose that for $343 I shouldn't complaint too much for last years flagship. Although knowing the possibility to get the Snapdragon 800 SoC does exist is very tempting.
If @cumova or anyone successful could shred some light to how the 9506 was obtained instead of 9505 it would be tremendous.
Actually I have ordered one considering it would be i9506. But, the DSE website gives the spec of i9505.

From which store did you collect it? Once I know, May be I can request them to get me the i9506 version while collecting it from them.

I would say it was an accident that they gave it to me tbh
The only reason I looked twice at it is because I had an old s4 which I broke and that package is slightly different
Now I hope there is no Vodafone problems with it having its bloatware or being locked to it after what people have said. I still haven't opened it.
Guys S5 or Alpha? is it worth it to pay a bit more for S5?
If you want battery time, slightly larger screen, higher resolution, dust/waterproof and micro SD expansion, S5 might be better.
If you want decent design (subjective), slightly faster processor, save some money, smaller screen, Alpha might be better.
I am sure there are other factors that I have forgotten but that is all I can remember.
If only they could put a decent battery in the Alpha I would defs get it.. Battery life is a big factor for me.
They are planning on releasing an extended battery pack, I am not sure whether it will be released in Australia.

Can someone comment on S4 battery life? My colleage has one before, he said its bad, not recommend to buy this
I have used a 9505 since December last year. It can last a whole day with moderate usage(2 hour+ browsing and some music listening). Can last two days with light usage(check text and email). My S4 battery was lucky enough to became obese after two month. It can not maintain constant voltage thus causing constant restarts. The battery was a known problem, Samsung replaced it within a week through post.
The only cringe I have over my current S4 is the SLOW Andriod OS update. My carrier still doesn't allow update to KitKat!!
Again YMMV, I dont think there is a better deal for last year's flagship phone.

Yeh why is Australia so slow to release kitkat, they've had it everywhere else around the world months back already.
I got tired of waiting and put the official samsung New Zealand kitkat version. Its working allright now after a few hiccups.
Unbranded, unlocked i9505 got KitKat 4.4.2 few months back.

@shaktipatro: Sounds like it's luck of the draw with some getting it and some not, to be honest I'd be happy with the 505 @ that price, it is a little slower but not so big it kills the deal :)

I just did it on the phone itself.
Settings=>> About Device=>> Software Update=>> Update
I didn't have a sim installed and had never had one installed before so the update was not specific to a carrier.
Was about 500 odd meg download over my home wifi.
I would guess the warranty would be ok as it is official update.
Phone is running great :)

My s4 that I just picked up already has KitKat installed (9505 version). Anyone else? Thinking it could have been a return/refurb. When scrolling on the settings menu, the text nearly disappears until you stop. Is this normal?

the 9505 version did not have kitkat installed by default.It came with jelly bean and anyway the kitkat OTA update for i9505 in australia was only released a couple of months ago.I know because i have a i9505 and i finally put a new zealand official kitkat rom around 3 months back after getting tired of waiting for an australia kitkat release.

UPDATE: I got a Sammy Alpha blk 32gb late yesterday from TGG Nunawading/Vic priced matched against DS online = $439 + $5.95 post (as DS showed no stock local/Vic but could be ordered = $445.15) as shaktipatro noted above.
So if you want one, be very quick, as DS deal/price ends today.
Getting this new phone for $445 and a Gear live watch (later/Feb,via redemption) is the bargain of the year, IMO.
The sales person tried to get me pay their full price $579 so I could get the watch promo, but I don't think this is the case,as the printout about it just states that its paid in full not paid at full retail price, so just get it for $445.15 AND still claim the watch <—— this is what I'm hoping.

Tip: always ask if phone or item is in stock first & get them to get it BEFORE asking about price matching, so they cant turn around and say ah,sorry we don't have any in stock right now so they can avoid doing a price match or hurting their commission.
