Finally after 2 weeks of waiting, Optus guy came and installed the service.
I managed to get free 100 Mbps upgrade but sales wont budge on $250 credit even after moving from Telstra.
Landline installed by Optus comes by default, blocked Caller ID, Caller number display ( Your own number if you call mobile), voice mail and call waiting.
I call CC and they activated it. Made first call from landline and within 2 min voice started scrambling and then corrected itself. Hope this is one off.
lets see whats in store for me with Optus.. Lets hope for the best. fingers crossed. I use YuppTV and online Media streaming a lot.
Hey guys regarding the fetch tv and the powerline adapter, since my modem router is too far from the powerpoint to reach the adapter with the standard ethernet cable provided. Is buying a longer ethernet cable the best option?
Sorry, Im quite illiterate when it comes to these technical things
Yeah to longer ethernet cable.
An alternative is a short power extension cord (if you have one spare).
Whelp. Anything's better than my 400kbs from TPG Unlimited
Anyone being throttled on the unlimited?
Did the 100mbps kick in yet?
Signed up yesterday for this. Asked Rasheed what speed I would be on and he said 100 MBS. Unlimited.
Premium speed pack will get added tomorrow (2/1/15)
My Ultimate Cable Plan 24 mth contract with Telstra will end mid March. Bite the bullet to jump ship earlier just in case I miss the deal - chat online with Optus a few nights ago and got hooked with free speed pack.
I hope that the speed provided by Optus would par with what I am having now. For a long time I would get the maximum download speed just over 70mbps via the netgear modem/router provided by Telstra. Two weeks and ten days ago I tried connecting two AC routers to see if I could get anything better. Amazingly, the Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Router could give me up to 112mbps offpeak, and around 60mbps peak time.
I got an SMS yesterday from Optus informing that the installation will take place on 14/01 (though I ask Optus Rep to delay it as long as they could so I do not have to waste money paying both Optus and Telstra for the services).
Can people let me know the typical speed you can get?
If you want to delay the installation simply ring them several days before the scheduled date and tell them that you are not available on that date and ask to reschedule.
Tell them you are leaving Telstra and you have edit fees. They gave me a $250 credit.
Too late, they have already signed up.
Yeah, too late. Thanx 2jzzz and Reddog888.
I read the thread well, and wonder why I did not see anyone mentioned the credit given for jumping ship …Still a good deal, so enjoy
FYI there is a media release on the Optus website regarding this price drop.
https://media.optus.com.au/media-releases/2014/optus-offers-…
And they have brought back contracts.. . fabulous.
Be aware that if you are unimpressed with what you get "<30 Mbps" for ninety dollars, they are long or expensive to get out of.There have always been contracts
ahh so for what I enjoyed with $85/month went up: $125 month-to month (webstore)option & down to 1 quarter of old speed-cap making room for unlimited. Jan/2015.
Not sure if uplink improved or 1Mbps from memory.
i still waiting for my premium speed pack. they said they will upgrade mine from 30Mbps to 100 but never did. call them twice different day and both time they said will be upgrade within 4 hrs.
Did you reboot your modem?
yes, i did both time nothing happen. need to wait til monday to call them up again.
I rang them the day after our contract changed to also check on the speed upgrade, they mention there was a technical hitch and it would be available within 24 hours. It was fixed within 30 mins.
the funny thing is that i call them 3 to 4 times same day and 1 of them offer a technician and said we have a problem with your line i gonna sent a technician come over and check it out… and i rejected cause i know that is not the problem.
Is your modem compatible with the premium speed? I had to upgrade mine (for free) so that I could use the faster speed. Although the speed is not as reliable as before, mine fluctuates between (10-70Mbits/sec)
im with optus more than 14 yrs.. and there customer service is pretty bad… my modem just been upgrade 2 months ago with the latest one, it a struggle as well technician came to our house twice.
looks like it's one of those "Opt in" benefits.
I just finished online chat with Optus rep and they said the speed pack didn't get added to my account during plan change (1/1/15).
Optus rep then added the speed pack and said it will take effect in 1 or 2 days.
For those wondering how to live chat:

dont wait for 1 -2 days they can change your speed within 1 min.
I got my cable service installed today but only getting 7.63Mbps.
Called Optus and was told to wait 24/48 hours. Is this true?
I have already bridged the modem to my existing router for now.
dont wait for 1 -2 days they can change your speed within 1 min. just call them up
called today and did some troubleshooting and no fix.
Tech is coming out tomorrow to have a look and redo the cabling from street to house.
hopefully they replace the old cable which has been here for 10+ years and use new cable.Update: Optus tech came out and instantly knew it was the grey/silver box thing outside on the line, he changed it and much better speeds.

Yeah already changed the MTU to 1487.
Thanks guys! I didn't know about MTU and my upload was only 600KBps-1mbps now I get 1.8mbps easy!
called twice. no sign of getting the free powerline adapters. lol
they cant give you free adaptor but they can put $40 credit into your account, thats what they did.
thats dodgy…
Sorry misunderstood.
I have asked them but answer was no.
Any chance to send me your customer id/username so I can get a match?
They told me i would be getting 2 free power line adapters with my fetch box.
o.o
have you received it?
cable hooked up today had 30Mbs - had to ring up and whinge to get Speed Pack enabled - took an hour 6 operators two calls but finally someone pressed a button, reset router and now at 67Mbs
Wait till its peak time at about 6pm to 12am
My browsing and download speeds are fine during peak periods. They do cap torrent downloads but that is easy enough to workaround with a VPN
What are your speedtest numbers during those times?
I must be in a congested node, some days its 60mbps, others its as low as 10-15mbps. Will see what its like after the school holidays
What VPN do you use?
http://www.speedtest.net/result/4037674569.png
Mine is hitting 100mbps even during peak hours, however I am consistently getting lag spikes which see my ping hit 900+ in games for 5 minutes at a time.
It's quite frustrating as it's been happening every day for the past week.I didn't have this problem before (I was on the Optus $115 unlimited bundle @ 30mbps previously).
Anyone else getting lag spikes?
Im the opposite in that my ping is very consistent and never spikes, even during the kid friendly hours of 6pm and onwards. But my speeds during those hours spike dramatically though ping is still good.
I hit 100mbps during off peak no problems but during peak I think about 80mbps tops, but most of the time its 50-60 I think
signed up in Optus shop…
Free upgrade easy. No powerline adapters.
Good customer service at the Optus shop.hope you got the speedpack too…
Yep. Free upgrade as I mentioned.
The guy said its free as long as the customer asked for it. Lol.
Hope the speed is 100mbps from day 1.
$90 per month. Any mention on 10% GST, credit card charge or/and billing admin fee?
$90 includes GST and there is a 1% or 2% charge for paying by credit card although looking at my last couple of bills I can't see it but I spotted it yesterday somewhere … hrm.
This text appears in the smallest print possible in the "How to pay" area
*Pay with Direct Debit - the fee free way to go. All other payments made via credit, debit or charge cards incur a 1% (inc GST) payment processing fee.
The fee will appear on the next account after the bill is paid.Yup and you can direct debit from your points earning credit card which avoids fees too.
So tech came out for my issue below:
Optus tech cut the old cabling from a previous cable internet installation that was done over 8+ years ago so they could route it to the new location where the modem will be however they did a bad job and now I have the cable dangling down which is an OH&S issue.
They didn't route the cable properly under the house and simply re-routed across pillars.
I reported this cabling issue as well as my speed issue I am having 7Mbps and not the promised 100Mbps via phone and live chat on Monday and a tech was organised for today to replace the whole cabling as well as check the speed issue.
Tech came already and had a look at the cabling and said sorry but I am not going to touch the cabling as the previous tech needs to come and reinstall it again as the cable is too short from the street to modem and that's why they just installed it like they did to save time.
He also wouldn't even look at the speed issue and advised he will escalate to his supervisor regarding the cabling issue then he left.
I am disappointed with Optus at the moment but hopefully this issue can be fixed asap.
EHhh, if he was a tech himself then why didn't he just do it for you instead of waiting for the previous tech to come back? What kind of tech was he?
I seriously don't know what kind of tech he was.
He was wearing an Optus shirt and had his van out the front.I believe he was just lazy to do it properly since it is not his mess in the first place.
On the phone now to optus to see what they can do.
Will update once done.Original Tech called and will be coming later today to fix the cable but wont be re-routing the whole cable from Street to Modem.
He said Optus told him to reconnect only and not new install.
I'm still pondering this offer. Honestly I've been with Optus broadband for over 15 years, or about a month after the cable broadband went live. I'm disappointed that there really hasn't been a price drop (I'm $70 a month high speed) and was about $50 to 60 when I started I think. And when I started, it was unlimited. And then this type of unlimited bundle comes along with a stack of useless utter crap bundled with it that I have zero use for (and that includes the landline offers), and is an extra $20 than what I'm paying, but it'd give me freedom from worrying about limits any more. So I look to see what other options there are for unlimited internet, and there really isn't anything very good either. For adsl2 I'd then need to pay for a telstra landline (I don't have a telstra landline). So with this offer, I have to look at an extra $20 plus maybe another $20 if they won't give me the speedpack free to be where I am now but just without the limits. So I have to think is $20 or $40 per month worht the limit removal? $40 - definitely not. $20? I'm still finding it a hard sell. If it was $10, I'd do it. And stuff fetch, and stuff phone calls.
Plus I'm ticked that their upload speeds are knobbled at a shxxty 3Mbps (even on the speedpack), even though the network is capable of 10x that.
Anyone else like this? Or with suggestions/options?
Just received my Fetch TV + Powerline adapters in a box.
D-Link DHP-P309AV
http://www.dlink.com.au/home-solutions/powerline-av500-passt…Nice. Did they throw in the adapters, or you have to pay the $40 for them?
Free
They are worth $99 though:

oh my f!!king god!!!
the optus trick me.
as i go through the moblie website and want to change $115 plan to $90 plan, they talk me into sign a mobile plan with them and say will do the plan with the cable plan together after did the phone plan !!!! sorry system problem!!! can't do the cable change for me…. transfer chat now….So you have a copy of the transcript. No problem then
finally got the deal with free speed pack, thanks guys
So how are the speeds during peak hours? ie 6pm onwards?
For torrents and youtube and also gaming? Is the ping good for gaming? 10ms or less?
Can we record the entertainment pack channels on the fetch TV PVR? Or can we only record FTA??
There is a message from combatant on 09/12/2014 - 15:51 (about page 4) that says you can. I'd asked the same question.
Thanks for that.
Yes you can record 2 channels (FTA or entertainment pack) at a time. You can record 'one off' or in 'series' modes.
ok thanks for the info
You're welcome.
Further clarification. If you are recording 2 'entertainment' channels you can watch a free to air channel but cannot record it. And if you are recording one free to air and one entertainment channel you can watch a third FTA or entertainment channel but cannot record it.
ok thanks. I probably won't use the fetch PVR for FTA as I already have a TIVO. I will use it for the entertainment channels.
Got my fetchtv unit yesterday after signing up on the 12/12/14! Got the Ethernet over Power adapters thrown in cos it took so long to get the fetchtv unit. Works fine. 30 free movies are meh…
Is there a list somewhere that tells us what the movies are ?
you can find link from this link fetch tv
If the 'free' movies are to be your deciding factor …. then ….. don't bother they are rubbish generally. Far better and entertaining content on the various channels.
Not to mention, I expect they are SD too.
Just a note that this deal is still active - apparently it has been extended until the end of April. I signed up on Friday without any issues.
Do you have a source for that? It working Friday is expected - the press release said until 5 February 2015.
https://media.optus.com.au/media-releases/2014/optus-offers-…
I only have what I was told on the phone, so I guess it shouldn't be taken as gospel unless there's written confirmation forthcoming as well. Just thought it was worthwhile mentioning that the deal definitely isn't expired yet.
Thanks anyhow. I'm still a fence sitter on the offer. So I'm always wondering how much longer I have left to decide…
Decisions…

installed last week and didnt notice its VOIP…
got the cisco router and the signal is really weak, 2 bars only when i was in next door.
tried speed with my phone and showing 45mbps @ 7-8pm. will try again with laptop & cable.
any one else got the same modem?
i want to call optus to replace it with the netgear.I have got it installed this morning. Speed has been OK (85mbps this morning at 9AM, 55 to 65mbps just now at 8PM which are acceptable. My BigPond ultimate cable speed right now is 45 to 75mbps).
I have got the Cisco DPQ3925-X like mrgeckoz too instead of the Netgear one. And the phone line is coming out of the modem. Have not tried the phone line's quality yet.
managed to get optus to send the netgear out for free, and keeping the cisco.
it was disappointed that cisco got such low quality product…
but +++ for optus service.I called them to complain about wifi short-range issue (my phone "avoided" to connect to it for "poor connection" when I came into my bedroom). They did not want to just send the Netgear via post. They will send out a technician late next Monday to replace the modem.
@hluu0111:
sorry to hear that man…
Really depends on luck then, same as free powerline adapters…hopefully they will replace a netgear for you.Still couldn't believe cisco had such shit quality product…
I'm pretty sure this is a last-minute cash-grab effort from Optus thanks to NBNCo's HFC deal - and we'll benefit.
Optus is trying to lock in 24mth contracts on Cable (HFC) and get as many physical installs done as possible because NBN will compensate Optus handsomely for an active, terminated HFC house as it means they won't need to do the lead-in themselves.
Worst case you will remain contracted on Optus HFC spectrum for the full 24mths before you can move onto NBN HFC spectrum with a choice of many other ISPs.
Best case you will be allowed to break contract but only if you re-sign with Optus as your ISP on NBN Wholesale HFC. NBN Wholesale HFC will hopefully be better designed for capacity and you won't see the local HFC congestion that you see today on Optus Cable in some areas.
Actually I am interested to see what options we will have, ISP wise under nbn, on the cable. And prices.
I was very excited to see that NBN would come to my area in 2015 under the Labor Government. And Bang! Tony won. NBN schedule's gone!
Anyway, I read and learnt that with current trend, NBN, if it comes to our houses, would have the speed of 100 mbps anyway. So in my case, it is worth taking this bundle with Optus and bear with them for two years. I'm used to the 100 mbps speed and I will not want to save money on lower speed internet connection of 20 - 30 mbps plans …
It will be the same RSPs that currently sell NBN services
Yes, but unlike the current cable, there won't be a monopoly any more, so maybe we'll get some better choices and rates. And who knows, maybe a half decent unlimited package with someone you don't have to pay extra for all this extra garbage you don't want and won't use. FFS, who cares about land lines except real oldies, not to mention standard-definition, add-ridden, logo-emblazoned RetchTV.
And maybe someone will have the decency to remove this damn upload throttle optus stick us with.
I guess next election, whenever that is, it'll be another government and probably some other even crappier "nbn" plan.
I still can't justify this offer to myself over my current 120GB $70 cable/phone plan.
I really am ticked off that 15 years later on optus cable I have no real light at the end of the tunnel for some "future vision" of a high speed internet. I feel bloody cheated. I have a major fibre trunk in my median strip for the last 15 years. It is like being in a desert and thirsty with a concrete water main next to you and you can't get at the water…
I'd actually settle for moving to 3g/4g for my home internet, but there just aren't any decent plans for that too.@Mobe1969:
Cool Story Bro!@Mobe1969:
"I still can't justify this offer to myself over my current 120GB $70 cable/phone plan."
I'm stuck with that too but adsl2+.
Well, the last day today, for all you people like me, still deciding :) I'm leaning towards a pass…
Extended to 5/3
Do you work for optus, or have a link where it says this? The main offer page doesn't mention this date, but does have another couple of dates (but unclear what they are for - one seems to be regarding the fetch package and another for the mobile discount):
https://www.optus.com.au/shop/broadband/bundles/90-superfast…
Well, I for one am loving my new cable service. Going from ADSL2 which was giving me a download speed of around 1.1MBps to cable which got up to 9.5MBps (average is around 3.5-5MBps). Fetchtv is ok and the free calls on the landline is a bonus, though don't really use it much as we all have mobiles. Torrents speeds are abysmal, but I knew that and hardly use torrents anyway. Considering it is costing similar to my old ADS2L service, its a no brainer.
which adsl2 provider were you with FarQ?
Ive been contemplating whether i should change from Exetel (telstra infrastructure) ADSL 2 which gives me consistent 700KB/s speeds as I have read optus cable gets bad during peak periods due to congestion
I was with TPG ADSL2+, but because of my distance to exchange (~3.5km) my speed was at best 12Mbps. My adsl + line rental was about $83/month with no calls. I figure for the extra $7/mth, i get faster speed, free calls & fetchtv. The main factor was the speed increase. I have heard all the horror stories about congestion, and even with that I was willing to take a punt. I have not perceived any congestion as yet, i may just be lucky and not in a congested area. Plus I now get a $10/mth discount for my sons mobile plan cos it is bundled with my cable service. And they threw in the Ethernet over power adapters because i waited 5 weeks for the fetchtv to get delivered!
You can access optus's Mirror at http://mirror.optus.net/ or mirror.optus.net if using filezilla (ftp client).
I personally prefer the FTP client as you can add the files you want to a queue and have it downloading overnight and resuming if there is a drop out much easier.
If your looking for Debian ISO images they are located at http://mirror.optus.net/debian-cd/7.7.0/
and from there you can choose the architecture etc…
For i386 4gb or less systems (DVD) you'd go to:
http://mirror.optus.net/debian-cd/7.7.0/i386/iso-dvd/
While for those with more than 4gb of ram and wanting the 64bit flavour you'd go :
http://mirror.optus.net/debian-cd/7.7.0/amd64/iso-dvd/
As a footnote, I called optus an hour ago and had my speedpack fixed and they resolved the SMTP port issue (YAY).
If I download one of the ISO files from the mirror I get around 9.9mb per sec in firefox with an eta of 6 minutes download time for a 3.6gb file.
Unfortunately some of the other areas on the mirror seem to be missing some TLC with some very old files.
Edit: Just downloaded from steam at around 9.5mb per sec average with a peak at 9.7mb.. Not bad (around 13x faster than what I had with ADSL)
