    sorry virgin post

  • +2

Thanks, fingers crossed. Free socket set with my new Raspberry Pi.

  • Ordered one, just plug in product codes via this page: http://au.rs-online.com/web/qa/quickorder/

  • From your post, it doesn't seem like a freebie? It's conditional on a purchase.

    • sorry - yes - condition is that once item is purchased it can not be returned. From reading the T/C.

  • Requires purchase or nah?

    • nah total is $0.01

      • So I can just order the socket set on its own?? Anyone know?

  • order one. thanks op !

  • thanks OP got one

  • got one thanks

  • Thanks, just ordered one.

  • Sweet, ordered!
Good job on finding the cheap screwdriver!

    • Both have arrived :)

  • +2

Thanks - I've ordered the exactly same set as yours cuz I needed the same thing. How lucky!

  • order placed!
RS are gonna get screwed ;)

    • and they may start cancelling orders too as per their T&C

  • No Paypal?

  • +4

Cool, hoping for the best. If not, it was still a cheap screwdriver I guess.

    Two important conditions:
    - Promotion ends on 18th Nov. 2014 or when stock is out.
    - RS reserves the right to change the free gift at any time.

Nothing says they can't make it an almost-worthless gift at any time, or just not supply it altogether. Still, hope it works out either way.

  • Nice. Thanks tygarbyte.

  • Thanks OP! Cool..

  • good deal, ordered, thanks

    1. RS reserves the right to change the free gift at any time.

I can almost guarantee this will happen!

    • Interesting. I was going to place an order, but couldn't finish the transaction. Maybe this is a sign! lol

      • I also had trouble with placing an order, when I got the error message I just refreshed the page and it work and continue to next step, then got a few other different errors after that, just retype the required info or refresh page.

Its a bit of a hassle with signing up with all info they want.

I have dealt/ordered with them before, very happy with their service, would deal with them again.

Let's see what happens, good luck.

        And thanks OP.

Come on guys. I was joking.

      • Don't worry, I could see it was sarcasm :) (He never actually negged it guys)

It's definitely hard to convey that in a comment though.

  • How much is the socket set worth?

  • So if the screwdriver is OS does that mean no freebie?

      • OOS
  • +2

Free Product doesn't say what it is and the photo's blank. They could send anything as the free product, why would they send me a socket set?

Even at the checkout all it says is "Free Product" and a blank photo. Did they remove it?

  • +1

Any description of the socket set?
    1/4" ? piece-count?

As much as I love free things, I don't have room for 2 socket sets in my rapidly shrinking garage.

  • i have 2 cables like this http://www.dicksmith.com.au/tv-video-cables/tv-fly-lead-cabl…

i want to find a connector from their website so i can use it to connect this 2 cables.

but fail to find it, anyone have idea which one should be?

    • Maybe like this: http://au.rs-online.com/web/p/tv-aerial-connectors/0531699/
Looks like they come in packs of 10 but still cheap!

      • They are $2.98 each, in a pack of 10. So $30 in total.

adpaholic, you can buy this one:
        http://au.rs-online.com/web/p/tv-aerial-connectors/7492490/
It will look ugly but should do the job.

Does he want to split the 1 cable to 2 outs? If not I'd strongly advise against a splitter as it'll tax signal quality (albeit not greatly). If I were still in Sydney I'd join them for him using F-Type compression plug (the best option) for the price of a beer.

That standard adaptor first mentioned will be the simplest. These can also be bought on eBay or Jaycar dirt cheap, I have some lying around in a box, think I paid about $3 for a dozen years ago. I wouldn't be holding out on getting the free socket set anymore so maybe just go eBay/Jaycar now.

        • @Click_It: I don't think there will be any noticeable quality loss, especially with the digital TV signal.
But you are right, it's better to buy a proper adaptor elsewhere:
          http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=PS0620

        • Good pickup. I wasn't looking at the fact it was each. I did think for 10 that was a bit too cheap, so not so cheap after all!

  • +1

That will be handy next time i have the urge to spend $290 on a pair on wire cutters…
    http://au.rs-online.com/web/p/cutters/2972648/

    • The description or image is wrong on that item (probably the price to haha). The image is a pair of lock wire pliers. They twist when you pull the handle on the end.

And snap-on sell them for alot less….

  • That's insane! Got one thanks!!

  • Where does it say it's a socket set?

    • +1

It doesn't, not on the ordering system - they have no obligation to send you a socket set :( . It's only mentioned in the photo that tygarbyte posted at the top.

  • +1

Got one ! lets see if it's honored -_-

  • +1

Needed a new mousemat, so got this one (497-8941) with hopefully a socket set to install it. :)

    • Going into business selling socket sets I see

      • +2

Just wanted to see how many negs I get

Like people who scream "bomb!" at airports just to see how funny it is…

        • @eDust: dude, data retention. You can't be saying those words in one sentence online anymore

        • You're right, can't even talk about people who joke about these things anymore.

  • +3

    Cheers, ordered one.
I used this code for a cheaper product - 384-1539 snap off blade knife $1.54 exGST.

    • Bugger, too late now, I got what OP mention.

    • Thanks alot CheapGit, and OP.

  • +1

I just finished signing up, added an item to cart, and then it wouldn't load. I suspect server crashed, couldn't handle all us ozbargainers

  • The OzBargain effect has begun. I placed an order and their Orders page says "There appears to be a problem with our systems." "Sorry
Your request could not be completed at this time "

    Anyone else?

  • +1

Mine just went through no problem. It's something I will actually use on a daily basis… I hope the hoarders won't ruin it for everyone! :P

  • Thanks OP. Just ordered one without any problems but I do have an existing account with RS.

  • +15

This could be a cunning plan to sell lots of $2 screw drivers…

  • Thanks OP, just got me one ordered :)

  • ordered one! thanks op

  • Got one thanks, they better come up with the goods

  • great offer. I needed a 16mm spanner and I have a spanner set which is quite annoying. I can find a needy person to pick this up. Cheers.

Mine Just Went Thru Okay..Guest Checkout

  • what happened if they really change the free gift to something not useful?

  • I think they have changed it. The "free gift" is no longer showing as the socket set. It is blank now. Could be anything.

    • It was blank when I checked around 10:40

      • Right, it showed the socket set when I ordered but I just checked my invoice and it doesn't specify it, it just says "free gift" which now shows as blank.

  • Should be fine, if you click on "Range Overview" it says 1/4 socket set. Well, for now anyway.

  • +4

I can smell RS salesmen frantically searching Shopping Square to buy up a load of cheap tat @ $0.01 to "replace" the socket set.

    • +1

I reckon about 5 people will get the socket set, the rest will get nothing or some bit of junk.

I was pretty early on this but there'd still been 200 clicks so I was probably 30+ in line even then (15mins after deal posted) and expect I'll miss out too.

  • Couldn't help myself - placed order

  • A pic of the socket set came up when I was checking out my cart. Ended up buying a snap blade knife. Thanks to CheapGit.

Cross my fingers that they have enough socket sets!

  • Got mine. Thanks bloke. Hope they honour it. Didn't have to make any other purchases either.

  • +2

Some more info (I order from RS often):
    1. Listed price (for screwdriver etc) does not include GST
    2. Shipping is free but you need to be home to sign for it when courier delivers

    • +1

Do they use AusPost to send them out? I need to send it to parcel locker

      • +1

        Toll courier (in Perth)

    • Yes, as a scroogeful OzBargainer the 10% GST on a $2.44 screwdriver really hurts

  • +1

Thanks, reason enough to get a new raspberry pi.

    • Depending on what you want to use it for, you should also consider Beaglebone Black.

  • +3

close to 3000 clicks I carnt see them honouring all of us, poor buggers must be getting stampeded

    • +2

Soon companies will need to specify ineligibility of OZB posted deals.

Just tried checking stock levels (1:15pm) for the free item and it shows 76 in stock. Don't think they would order more to give out after they run out.

  • let's see if this "Free Product" ends up being a socket set

  • I ordered the same screwdriver, have actually been in the market to for one! Bonus socket set will come in handy as well! FYI I had the image of the socketset on checkout at 12PM, with everything in stock shipping 1 - 5 days. Thanks OP!

    • Yeah, I thought the screwdriver looked decent and would actually be useful. Also hoping the socket set comes with it

  • I see another 'Toshiba USB flash drive' fiasco coming…..

They'll probably ship a few to business addresses / actual customers with accounts, and bin the rest of the orders.

    • +1

deal was not eligible to existing customer, as per T&C - new customers only.

  • Good timing because I just blew up a 1/4" socket driving it with an impact driver!

  • +1

Let's see how this pans out.

    • +5

Well judging by the number of clicks, there is a possibility we might miss out…I guess we'll have to socket up and move on?

  • +1

By the way, screwdriver is in stock so it will be delivered tomorrow.
The socket set is 1-5 days shipping which means it will probably be delivered next week.

Yes, they will send courier twice and you have to sign for it twice.

    • Mine got delivered already (ordered this morning). Just the screwdriver, no socket set :(

      • Damn that was fast.
You going to send them a email as to why?

        Good luck
