      • Just received mine too.

Wasn't so happy with the Courier Please bloke though, he just signed for it on my behalf then dump it out the front.

    • Got mine too :) It's hard to get the bits on and off my ratchet, but apart from that it's great! Also for those who were doubting, it says Cr-V on the sides of all the pieces, so I'm pretty sure they're all chrome vanadium.

Edit: there's an eject button on the back of the ratchet… herp derp :p

      • +1

@Alzori Push the little knob on the back of the ratchet to attach & remove the pieces.

        • Wow, that image you posted shows a pretty comprehensive set - I hadn't really looked at it before.
With the 6ps T10 to T40 hex screw set and a few other goodies besides.
Just received confirmation of despatch and am now anxiously waiting for couriers please.

    • Just got mine as well

    • Yep, mine arrived this morning too. Awesome work RS!

  • my socket set just turned up!

    great service

  • +1

Fantastic little toolkit - I'm well impressed with the quality.
    Good work OP and RS.

  • +1

Freebie deal of the year, quality small socket set. The stanley s/driver delivered for $2.70 was the added bonus.

    Onya RS!

  • Still had no acknowledgment of an order being placed and probably got on it in the first hour or two.

  • mine arrived! perth

  • Order confirmed but no confirmation of being sent.

  • +2

my order that I paid for didn't even arrive. not impressed

    • Yep same here, got an email for the order placed but nothing since.
Just sent an email to them with the order details see what happens.

  • Still no transaction on my credit card…just order confirmation. Great…

    • I'm in the exact situation as you SimoHDK, I've contacted them via email only to be told that my items are out of stock and will be delivered mid December, funny thing is the other bits I ordered are actually in stock and checking my order against their system shows nothing.

This is the email address to chase them up [email protected]

  • I haven't heard from them even though they replied to my initial email(11/11) and said
"We are currently responding to all enquiries within one working day and will be back to you as soon as possible"

    • i emailed on the 14th and they responded this morning

"Please be advised that you order is on hold due we don't have any stock of the free product so Please advise if you still want to other item of your order.

Can you please also advise how did you hear about the free product. "

      • +1

        LOL - Don't mention OzBargain!

They came back to me saying they only sell business-to-business and as I'm a consumer, I'm not eligible for the free product.

…Have now given them the business name. Weird.

        • I just got the same email from them as anthonyzzz, my reply was I found the info from a sales brochure at work ;-)

  • Got my Free Socket Set. Thanks OP.

  • I'm guessing they're just ignoring orders (except those that have been shipped).
I got the order confirmation, but never received dispatch notice, or got charged.

  • They're saying that the free socket set has been exhausted due to overwhelming response and if I still want the remaining item in my order (the screwdriver) haha

    • It is supposed to come back into stock in December?

  • I just asked them if they will honour my order when they get more stock. Their previous email suggests that they won't but I want to confirm. Will keep you posted.

    • +1

No luck. They said that the promotion was from a brochure and that brochure was sent to targeted customers. Therefore even if they do get more stock, they won't honour the order. Oh well.

      • +1

Sounds like moving bull dust that they made up on the spot. If it was targeted, there would be individual codes.Anyone could add the free product with a new account.

  • got the confirmation email, card didn't get charged. spoke with someone and they have no record of my order number, no record of the item numbers (said the stock # didn't match their format), sent them the confirmation email and they said they would get back to me. still waiting… seems they are pretty much ignoring orders.

  • could not be bothered arguing… just told them to cancel my order if they were not going to honour the offer.

Can anyone suggest how the hell I am going to open boxes now without a retractable blade box cutter?

    • +2

1/Glare at them until they wilt?
      2/Use your teeth?

    • Just got the exact some email. What a freaking fail. Very annoyed at their lack of communication…

      • Same here, yet they confirmed when they asked me to change address!

  • i demand retribution

  • +2

I know I get some bargains, but all the failed deals are a large amount of time. I can add this one to the time wasted tally.

    • +1

i guess we could see it coming.

killer deal from RS to their customers get posted on ozbargain, and within hours, hundreds if not thousands of ozbargainers (myself included) buy a screwdriver and "socket set".

  • Still have not heard anything from them about this deal, Unless I missed their email in my mess of hotmail chaos.
Will check my bank to see if I got charged.

bugger, looks like most of us missed out :(

  • My socket set arrived yesterday : seems pretty good quaity

  • No socket set for me. They should have had a set amount , then it said no stock

  • +2

Just received an email offering a refund as they have run out of stock :( Oh well.

    • same D:

  • Yes - just got mine as well.

  • Just got the out of stock email. I've been waiting on an order with some important components since the 7/11/14. It took these morons a whole two weeks to work out their stock level. This stupid socket set has delayed my whole order.

  • +3

Got the same message they ran out of stock.
they had stock levels when I ordered.

    Bad impression..

  • +4

I'm spewing I missed out. I needed a new socket set! I hope the ones who got it aren't going to just leave theirs sitting on a shelf with all their other freebies… :(

  • +2

Same email, I was wondering how did they accept orders while they didn't have stock! This is not professional at all.

  • +1

I'm pretty annoyed that I missed out too, actually placed a decent sized order (>$100) for components and tools that I needed (have ordered from there through work before) and miss out on a socket set which I actually needed and would use when there are people who paid for a $2 screwdriver who will never order again who got them. It's pretty amazing considering I placed my order when there were still >90 of the socket sets in stock.
I guess I'll stick with element14 for as many of my future orders as I can…

    • +2

Same here. I really am after a small socket set for smaller jobs. It's a pity there will no doubt be socket sets sitting unused on people's shelves.

  • Just received this email:

I bet there were only 10 socket sets….

    • I got the same email as well…. :(

      • no communication other than today's email and the initial order confirmation
still no charge on my credit card.

        stuff them.

  • So after much delay they\I cancelled mine.

When I ordered there was plenty in stock. I even checked the following Monday and they confirmed that my order was in the system. After 2 weeks I asked where it was at and I got the generic response other have received above.

Since I use RS on a weekly basis at work, they have lost business in this since I don't want to put our purchasing people through the pain of dealing with RS.

  • +1

Due to how this deal went I have decided not to do business with them again, I spent over $100 on tools with them specifically because I thought I would be getting the socket set as advertised.

I can see both sides but I would have bought better tools with a better warranty elsewhere if it wasn't for the socket set, I'll look into sending back the tools for a refund.

    • It seems this exercise may have cost them more money than it would bring in new customers. Especially when you don't send the set to people who spend over $100 (you and myself) and people who abused the promotion by spending far less than the value of the socket set did receive them.
Plenty of other places to buy the same items, and as you said, better tools and better warranty available elsewhere.

  • +1

Got my socket set today. I placed my order about 30mins after the stock count went to 1. My order had a delivery date of 12/12/14. Thanks again OP, and this only cost me 44 cents to get this socket set. I bought 10 of these EP 2.5 TPA Housing 3 way (stock no: 8116790)

  • ETA for my free gift is now 24/1/15 - i did detect a hint of "dude, you are such a tighter$e asking where your free stuff is - get list i have more important things to do…"

  • No socket set received, and no email.
    A workmate got both….

    • Email from RS today:

      Dear Chris,
The free product is discontinued and we are unable to supply it, therefore we are unable to send it to you.
Sorry for inconvenience caused, and please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to discuss this further.
      Thank you
For all new orders or enquiries please email us directly at [email protected]

I have asked what they are supplying in lieu.

      • I haven't received any email yet… I received my original order but not the socket set.

I am tempted to request that I return my original order for a refund if they can't fulfil the socket set.

        • From RS this morning:
"As you can see the link is not RS Web site, and the free product was only for RS Existing customers that Receive the letter about this promotion, therefore we are unable to supply in lieu.

Thank you and sorry for inconvenience caused.
For all new orders or enquiries please email us directly at [email protected]

          Ducking and weaving……

        • @ChrisLevo:

I would initiate a charge-back on your credit card

        • @matt_will_fix_it: Are you all really that desperate for a free socket set? Poor RS. This will probably discourage them from doing freebies like that in the future.

  • +1

RS is a total waste of time. Initially they told me to wait for stock of the socket set, and now they are totally denying any of this took place.

They refuse to offer anything in lieu of said set, and are simply taking the easy way out to offer refunds.

Since they are unable or unwilling to honour their words, then I guess, we cannot as customers be expected to support such companies.

    • +1

They probably won't notice. I don't think they're looking for single-purchase customers who buy cheap screwdrivers just to get an expensive free socket set, like most people here.

      • +1

Whilst that may be true. Currently I am buying my items from farnell and mouser. Admittedly this purchase was to capitalise on the freebie. However had they honoured the deal, I would have been more inclined to start shifting some of my business to them.

But since they have taken the stance of simply washing their hands then I shall simply choose not to support such businesses.

        • So let me get this right… they offered this freebie to select business customers. OP discovered it and spread it to the masses. Now suddenly there's 100s of orders for $2 items, with free socket sets. Company wonders whether to lose a ton of money, or just simply annoy a few people that wouldn't have otherwise ordered from them, and you have reason to have a go at them for it?!

Maybe if you had actually put through an order of say >$200, you'd have a leg to stand on for a free socket set, but you cant cry witch when they wont honour something that wasn't meant to be offered publicly in the first place!

If they had decided to honour everyones freebie, then they likely would have to push their prices up further, and you wouldn't buy from them because they didnt have competitive prices!

        • +1

@Spackbace: hang on a minute there…. whats to say i didnt receive those flyers too (which i found in the big master catalogues); also around that time i had visited the trade counter numerous times for things i needed there and then (alps blue velvet pot; neutrik connectors. was even considering their bahco tool trolley they had on special). last i checked, a customer is a customer regardless they are buying $2 or >$200.

many companies out there often will place small orders to test new suppliers and see how they work. recently ive started to order thru staples instead of lyreco for some of my stationary supplies because i find lyreco being clumsy with their freight. only yesterday, instead of using my preferred supplier of technology, i used officeworks. does this make me any less of a customer?

        • +1

@t25: Don't take it personally as I don't think it was specifically directed to you. There are plenty of others who really only wanted the socket set and had no real intention of actually buying anything from them ever again.

    • They didn't offer me a refund either. Just said too bad.

  • i got dispatch notice for mine. hope to have it tomorrow :)

  • Just got mine Thanks RS

  • I just got mine today. Good piece of gear for a freebie.

  • Just received my free socket set on thursday 15.01.15 :). Very good quality set. Honestly I thought I'd never get it as i ordered a stanley knife on the 8th of November last year. Thought id call them last week just to see what excuses they'd give me… the lady (gorgeous sexy voice :) ) said they will be sending them out in the next few days and i got mine 2 days later. And just because of that i'm gonna start buying stuff from them.

  • (I just posted this to "DickSmith: after Two Months, Still Waiting for Bonus Item" General discussion as well)

I can report my bonus gift ordered in November actually arrived from RS Online. I'd given up on it appearing, but it arrived the other day (Bahco 25pc 1/4" socket set).
Scratching me head how it works as I purchased the cheapest thing I could find on sign-up - a $1.25 Stanley Knife (thanks to OzBargainer suggestions!).

RS shipped the knife to me at no charge. They then posted a Statement/Invoice. They then delivered the Bahco socket set. They then posted another Statement/Invoice. All of the above: goods, administrative, courier and postage costs only came to $1.25?

WTF? Not that I am complaining though…
