Sony 24" 3D 1080p 240hz Display Monitor (Refurb) with 12 Mo Warranty $130 + $9 Post @ 1-Day.com.au

875

This is a true bargain for a 3D Full HD 1080p monitor

Good news is the monitor has a VA panel (better than the TN that most cheaper monitors have)

Have never seen these so cheap. Selling @ Amazon for a whooping $385 USD

These are refurbs but come with a sony 12 month warranty for a piece of mind

Has 2 X HDMI, Component, Built in speakers with Subwoofer !!

Even a regular 24" monitor is hard to find @ this price

Enjoy

read the reviews in above posts, they're very bad.

    • If your planning to use it as a PC monitor, then i would ignore those reviews as they are related to gaming

As a PC monitor, you get a VA panel (not a crappy TN), built in speakers and Dual HDMI. Cheapest on staticice for a 24" TN panel monitor is $155 + Delivery

So $139 Delivered for a decent PC monitor is a bargain in my books

I'm pretty sure the numerous problems the display has are not related to console gaming at all. From reading they are overheating problems and bad quality components from any usage. That overheating issue is going to be an even bigger problem now that summer is fast approaching (was 31 degrees today in Melb).

Sure the deal looks good on paper because it's a VA panel. But if it fails (and the failure rate is extremely high from my brief research) then it doesn't matter what kind of panel it is because it's just paperweight until you get it RMAed (which does not guarantee you a perfect unit either). In the end it's probably more trouble then its worth if you have to RMA it. I cannot even find any detailed information regarding the RMA process, 1-day basically says "contact us" and I have a feeling you need to pay for the shipping to them yourself. What if the second one fails too? And the third?

I know you feel the need to defend this deal because you posted it but you have to face the facts.

          @easternculture:

I like how you're resorting to childish replies when people try to present the facts. It's not a bargain if it has a high chance of failure (doubly so for refurbished products).

        • +1

          @fufufu:
Depends on if the issue was identified by Sony as something they could fix with a parts upgrade, they would perhaps be hesitant to supply a one year warranty if they knew their repair was going to fail again prematurely, would start to cost them money and not worth putting the repaired items back up for sale.

Short answer, the refurbs may be more reliable than straight from factory.

Edit: I thought your comment was a good one by the way, well thought out. Just offering an alternative possibility.

        • +2

@Gravy: if it fails again shortly they just send you another refurbished monitor at no trouble to them, only frustrating and a hassle for you. You're basically a guinea pig for getting rid of their bad stock. Eventually after 12 months you'll be stuck with a monitor prone to a lot of problems.

So no they won't be more reliable than the ones straight from the factory.

Mate its not the first time.
He did the same passive aggressive replies with tightarse's deal posts previously. Serious enough that it was reported to mods. See here for all the details.

          @Gravy:

That is indeed a possibility I've considered but adding on to @jaero115's comment. From the comments on Amazon it is apparent that people have gotten replacement units from Sony after their new one failed that eventually developed problems too. Like another comment mentioned earlier, there's a reason why there's excess stock of these refurb monitors.

Another important point is that we do not know who actually refurbished these monitors, whether the warranty is offered by Sony or 1-day and what repairs/modifications were done during the refurb. In the end unless 1-day discloses the above information it's up to buyers to weigh the risks and wonder if their time and energy is worth the potential savings.

I feel I've said enough here for others to make an informed decision.

Edit: @payton haha Yeah my neg is not directed at him (which he clearly does not understand) nor do I care about his attitude.

See my comment above, but the short of it is that 1-day are not a registered business in Australia, they are registered in NZ so buying from them you are not covered by Australian statutory law, which means they can read you like crap and do what they want and unless you want to fly to NZ for a hearing you are stuffed

      • +3

I would put in an extra $60-80 and get a brand new 24" monitor, might not have speakers but I will never buy anything refurbished again after all the dramas I've had with refurbished electronics. When you organize a 1 year warranty (hoping it doesn't start failing after 12months), they will just replace it with another "brand new" refurbished monitor. Not worth the suffering to pay a little bit less.

  • -3

    what a temptation
already have 2 monitors but given the price, can't go wrong

    • +3

I've got 3 monitors and given the reviews of this monitor, it can go wrong!

  • response time?

    • EDIT: I heard they were around the 4ms mark. Good enough.
Bought and "Happy Birthday to me!"

    • +2

      meant to be 4ms GtG

input lag is 2 frames (33ms) which is pretty bad

  • So… I have geforce 650 gfx card. Can I play games in 3d on this monitor? I understand I may have to pay nvidia a bribe and get that 3dTV play software…

    • with 3DTVplay, you will get 720p@120Hz or 1080p@24HZ….. and that is only if you use a "black box" to fake the EDID

you are better off using TriDef with it

  • Forgetting potential break down issues this is an old panel, Sony tends to exaggerate their specs and I would personally expect a NEW medium range panel to perform better (quality/power) than this

  • Can the inbuilt speakers replace my Cambridge Audio S30 and Yamaha A-S201? I need more desk space.

  • Never seen an OP's response get negged so much in his own post

Where does it say that the 12mths warranty is direct to Sony? Normally warranties means you deal with the retailer (1-day.com.au)

People have reported receiving spam after they signed up with this company. They signed up using a unique email just for this company.
    http://whrl.pl/RcWBaP
    http://whrl.pl/RcNjTw

Some dodgy history here about this company
    http://whrl.pl/RbmiT0

    Negged due to above.
Lets make a better comparison. A complete refurbished unit and package from newegg sells for $190USD, and for that price you get the glasses. So the price saving is not as flashy as the OP stated

    • A complete refurbished unit and package from newegg sells for $190USD

      190USD = ~ $220 AUD and lets say ~ $150 shipping from the US = $370

So you could get a complete package from Newegg for $370 or buy it for less than half that price from 1-day

      Now that's a comparison

      • +2

Mate don't worry if people don't appreciate/agree with the deal you posted, not like you will benifit if they buy it :-)

        Thanks for posting!

        • +1

Agreed. Like it or leave it. Best is to ignore it. Another day another thread. +1 for posting.

      • -2

Ok, so you compare refurbished units with a brand new one from Amazon without caring about shipping costs, but when its about the same model from newegg, shipping costs must be added to it to hugely inflate the final figure. Clutching at straws?

The monitors you're offering as a Deal are repaired units. How old were they before they were taken in for repairs? Is there still an intermittent problem that the techie didn't completely fix?

Where is the evidence of that "sony 12 month warranty"? Show it to us please, its much easier chasing warranty with a huge multinational company compared to one that proudly calls its items bags of crap

  • Thx for sharing the deal… Got one for the kids room lol

  • I was looking for a replacement for my Acer 24 X243W which I was fine with until I set up my PC to also connect to the 50" Plasma and noticed how washed out the colours looked in comparison. Most of my Steam gaming is done on couch with controller these days but now and then, I go back to keyboard and mouse.

Price difference compared to a brand new 24" is not enough for me though, when checking with MSY as comparison. Will keep looking…

  • i think this one is better for $83….

  • Anyone who ordered received shipping confirmation / tracking details?

  • anyone received this?
I'm sure if I should proceed?

    Hi

    • I got the same. I won't send any ID to them. Not sure it is safe. Offered them to proceed as is, otherwise refund. It is NZ company without telephone number on their website so I don't trust them enough to send ID.

      • Got one also told them either refund or send item I won't be scanning my ID.
After reading all the above posts I'd be happy for a refund now anyway will see what happens I guess.

        • I was watching the deal and what I found interesting was the stock bar on the website, it was moving left but other times when I refreshed the page there was more stock then 3 hours ago. I think if they clearly state on their website during checkout that copy of ID is needed for a purchase I wouldn't bother buying even if it is 65" TV for 5 dollars.

        • @meanozbgnr:
          very dodgy business indeed

    • Just woke up half awake and that email zzz

So still no tracking details for us lol

      • did you bother to send your details?
        I decided not to

        • Sent them my working with children check ID :) lol

I received the request for Photo ID too - what a dick move by http://www.1-day.com.au/

I'll see how they respond to this:

    Hi Chris,

    Regarding Order: #*******

Due to the nature of Internet Fraud, I will not provide you with a copy of my Photo ID. This was never in the terms and conditions of the sale, and 1-day has already charged my credit card. Likewise, it would not be reasonable for me to ask you for a copy of your drivers license, passport and/or birth certificate.

Please confirm my order is still going to be processed, and I will happily accept your inconvenience apology.

    Cheers,

    • 1day, shooting your own foot.

    • The 1-day.com.au saga continues. No TV delivered, and no refund provided by 1-day

      Hello,

On the 29th of October, you wrote:

"refunded the full amount back to the initial card used to place the order. Please allow five working days for the funds to appear back on the card."

Today it is the 10th of November, which is 9 business days later. You have failed your own SLA.

Due to the fact that you were trying to obtain my official photo identification, along with the failure to provide a refund (due to your own self-imposed terms and conditions), I believe you are internet fraudsters / scammers.

I expect an explanation and full refund within 2 business days. Alternatively, please provide me with a copy of your photo identification and credit card details so I can rectify your wrongdoing.

  • God they are slow processing / delivering orders…

    • +1

You will receive it 1- Day… Just don't know when.

  • I got lucky… As I refused to provide ID they cancelled my order! "In this case, as you have advised you are not prepared to provide Photo ID and confirmation of your address, we have elected to cancel this order as per our Terms and Conditions and have refunded the full amount back to the initial card used to place the order. Please allow five working days for the funds to appear back on the card."

  • I just received this email reply:

"Thank you for your email and confirmation of address and photo identification.
Your order is currently going through our dispatch process and once it has been dispatched, you will receive an email containing the tracking number."

Weird and slow business practice :) lol

  • Did anybody else notice the link in the ID request email is uber suss?
I sent the following in reply.
Will keep you posted as to response.
    "Greetings Chris,
I will not be providing photo ID to you.
As this request was not made prior to your debiting my card, I have to questions the legality of your business practice.
I see you fail to mention this practice in your FAQ's. It might not be a bad idea to consider informing the customer PRIOR to taking their money, as one should not add caveats after money has changed hands.
Please reimburse me my money immediately.
    Frustrated client,
    ******"

  • They are refunding my money also as I refused to scan ID details for them…
Weird way to run a business!!!!

  • I sent them a screenshot of my payment from online banking and crossed out other details and they accepted it. Let see how long they deliver the item

  • got my refund today

  • +1

Just got my tracking number :)

  • +1

got my tracking number too…they are using AE

    • Has your tacking status changed at all?
My one has not moved since the 31 Oct

  • I've got 4x new sony 3d glasses if anyone's interested. I cancelled 4 of these POS TVs. From 1- rort.

  • I received mine the other day. It doesn't seem to work though.
I press the power button.. the light turns from red to blue… then green… then back to red. And the screen doesn't seem to power on at all.

I haven't found anything similar on Google yet. How have other people found theirs?

    • just got my one today, same problem as yours. had sent eamil to them, no reply now.

      • Still waiting on my to get delivered :( doesn't look too good

      • I found their warranty section fairly helpful. They didn't offer any advice to rectify the issue but they did quickly set up a reply paid service to return the item.

I sent it back on Tuesday. We'll see how it goes from there.

  • Just got a reply from their support team regarding my delivery

"I do apologise for the delay with this order.
As this item is an electronic item, these do sometimes have slight delays when being sent overseas…"

So they are shipping the orders from overseas ( NZ / USA ) or ?

Their support team is making me even more confused :) lol

How is everybody doing with their DOA warranty claims ( any luck / difficulties ) ?

    • Thanks god it arrived today and is working for now :)
