  • Hope they have i5 model

I (work) have owned a Lenovo x230 with an i5-3320M since August 2012. I held out for this model purely for USB 3.

Purely as a laptop, the small screen size would be unbearable for any type of extended use.

Combine it with a docking station however and you're all sorted.

Opinion - Probably a good deal but super ugly and super heavy by today's standards.

    • +2

Ugly, granted. Thick for screen size, yes. Heavy for screen size, not really. It's 1.3 KG. so maybe 100 Grams or two more than the latest models, in a bag would be negligible. Extra strength for the Lenovo would make up for that. User accessible bays, removable 6 cell battery and docking port make up for it. Great question below this comment, does this have that keyboard light thingy/backlit?

  • +1

    Does this have backlit keyboard.

    • +2

no backlit keyboard, no bluetooth, no finger printer, no IPS.

      • +2

        no finger printer

I don't mind. Replacement cartridges are really expensive anyway.

      • +2

        no backlit keyboard

But ThinkLight sort of lit up the entire keyboard area.

        • +1

The X230 has a ThinkLight as described above.

    • Does this have backlit keyboard.

      Usually doesn't start until 1000$

      • Not disagreeing with you, but as I have purchased two laptops under $700 with backlit keyboards, one an i5 14.4" Ultrabook for $560, you start to want it and look out for it. I mainly asked as I read something about a keyboard light for this model, and it looks like that was correct. I love hunting out a bargain, and although I am not buying this model ( I like bigger screens ), this was/is a Bargain.

  • out of stock

  • i think there are still some of them in stock, just ordered one, do you guys think thats a good deal?

    • If you read my comments above, I think it's a good deal. Especially for someone who needs a small and light portable yet powerful laptop, with the option to dock on your desk ( with optional dock ) and use with a nice 21"-24" FHD IPS monitor for under $200. You can also easily upgrade the X230 for more grunt when needed.

      • +1

Just out of interest, how would you upgrade this?

        • Easy, just open bottom tray to add/increase ram, swap the sinning hhd for a faster ssd as mention earlier here by myself and others. Can easily swap batteries over with 6 or 9 cell in seconds. Also can get compatible dock for quick and easy power connection when working at a desk with bigger monitor attached and other peripherals such as usb/vga/sound/dvd etc. some even have a lock too. Here is an example:

Pretty much my setup - docking station, 22" DELL IPS monitor, wireless keyboard and mouse.
I've done a lot of travel with this machine, hasn't missed a beat.

out of stock already. this post should be marked as EXPIRED

  • still cant get one. expired i think.

  • +1

Wow that was quick, mine arrived today. This lappie will suit my little mobile business perfectly!

  • Looks like it is back in stock, just ordered one, 14 left!!

  • +1

managed to buy one when it was in stock again yesterday, still a bit skeptical about the keyboard (I am a long time old style TP keyboard user/fan), but worst comes to worst, there are guides on the net on how to replace it with the old style one :)

PinzVidz: does yours come with an expresscard slot?

  • just received mine today! not bad considering I ordered it just before midnight on Wednesday!

now creating recovery media…… seriously, it would've costed Lenovo probably 10 cents throw that in, yeah yeah I know it has been the industry standard for a very long time now.

    • Makes people go out and spend more money, on DVD-R's, external DVD writers or usb drives/external hhd's. They are promoting the larger tech industry. They are in it to make money after all, sometimes ruthlessly!

  • to the ozbargainer who has purchased this laptop, have you checked your warranty online?

in a different forum, some people reckons they are seeing 3 years warranty when they checked their S/N online, when I checked mine, shock and horror I only have 126 days left! (warranty has started back in Dec/2013)

Unfortunately Lenovo's customer service are already closed, I have sentt them an email, let's see what they come back with on Monday…….

otherwise, so far the new keyboard layout/feel is not as shocking as some are claiming, but it will take time to re-learn where all the keys are……..

    • just checked mine come with 3 years warranty (End Date: 2017-10-09)

  • +1

all sorted, mine now has 3 years warranty as well :)

    • Wow! 3 years warranty makes this an even better buy.

  • Can anyone offer their opinion on their new purchase for reference sake. I missed out, but would consider getting this second hand one day.
