  • Telstra 3G or 4G network?

    • No reseller has 4g access.

      • +2

Bendigo Bank has Optus 4G access and where I live Optus 4G is as good as Telstra 4G.

        • +3
        • +15

Did the courts comment on Optus 4G in my area? If so, how did you know where I live?

Seriously though, I don't care what the court says. I only care about the reception I get in my area and Optus 4G is very good. My son has a phone on Optus 4G and it his testing indicates that it is extremely fast.

        • +1

You should look into a landline if you don't take your phone away from home, you can get much more data.
Seriously, coverage is important too. and performance on 3G is important outside 4g areas or for users without a 4g phone.

        • Before smart phones we had 'mobile phones' and the purpose of them was they could be mobile. i.e. you could use them while travelling or away from your home.

        • You obviously live in Bendigo if you are going to that bank

        • Erm … no.

        • +1

i cannot delete and have an empty message and trying to get a mod to delete this comment doesnt work as my work has a weird system that lets some ozbargain in and some not so hopefully this works!

    • +6

Parts of Telstra 3G, if I remember correctly

      • +1

I believe it is all of the 3G network these days (recent change) but no 4G.

      • +2

running NEXTG the speed at this stage is capped max 42Mbps

        • Not yet, at least in my area (Wollongong) it's still 6.87MB download speed on speedtest. Anyway, it will make no difference to me even 6x the speed.

        • +1

Make sure not confuse mega bits and mega bytes per second.

        • Yeah, should write Mb rather than MB. But anyway my service is still capped at 7.2Mb atm.

      • Telechoice at the moment runging one telstra NEXTG which is capped speed at max 42Mbps

        • I wonder if this capped speed make any sense when the average speed or the minimum speed is what really matters.

        • +1

Actual speed depends on many factors. It's the same thing when ISPs say adsl2+ is up to 24Mb/s.

        • You'd probably tell them to **** off if they informed you of the average speeds. I can tell you the minimum speed already: 0 Mbps :p

    • should be on 3G network..

BTW, on their web page, says "Plus, we ‘ll even give you 50% off your third month’s access fee!"

does it mean I only have to pay AUD 14(i.e. on AUD 28 plan) for 3 months?

      sorry, bad English reading..Orz.

      • +1

only your third months bill,i reckon

  • +3

    Best mobile plan for me.

    • +1

Does any ozbargainer have any tip to avoid the excessive excess data charge? ($250/GB). Their website doesn't show accurate data usage.
I'm currently using a generic data counter app and use a conservative limit to allow discrepancies between how the data is counted. However, I'm wondering if anyone else got a better way to manage this?

      • +2

I only use the built-in data usage app on my N5.
        Its pretty accurate for me.

      • +2

Yeah you buy a prepaid plan and when it runs out they switch it off.
Ive got burned once (luckily i figured a way out of the bill) by a misbehaving beta iOS build.
I switched to prepaid. Much safer now.

        I have telstra encore

      • Had a stupid iPhone that decided to do lots of it's updates and over the 3G connection rather than waiting until on WiFi. Ended up with a bit of a shock bill for that, but since then has all been good. Second phone is now an Android again so I set the data limits within android for 100MB less to try and make sure it cuts out. Also use myUsage app to keep an eye on data and credit use. Being two days behind on data checking is annoying, but just have to watch it closely.

      • Is this a joke or do they actually charge this?

    • +1

I signed up to this plan in January of this year. See: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/128649

Great deal IMO! coverage is really good so far, no complaints.

  • +1

good mobile plan, worst customer service. Good luck getting any issues resolved.

    • leaving optus and go for our own team isn't so easy.

sorry for if anything happened to you but surely we are trying improve everyday ourselves

      • +5

yes please improve your customer service and teach your staff to be polite over the phone and not speak like a robot. i had this lady talking to me like a robot when i phoned to activate my sim, the second call to activate my international calling service took 20-25 minute to answer but finally resolved.

i love the coverage and the 3g internet speed (better than vodafone 3g-4g-hsdp whatever in my area), hate the usage data being 2 days behind and not so user friendly to check from website. please make an app for usage and update the usage quicker…. which makes your service crystal clear and more people will be joining you.

    • Yeah but once you're setup, do you need to deal with cust service? I know that's a bad excuse - but I've been thinking of going to these guys a few months. Once the crap is sorted out, if it's a Telstra network (good) and the billing system doesn't actually break and make mistakes (??!!!! :O ? ) then you pretty much don't need to deal with them, no?

      • i was having one 49 plan for myself, in fact for 11 months with the plan i never need to call the customer support

  • +1

Data billed by MB or KB?

Looks to be excellent on the surface, $28 plan for me is the best, lots of talk, unlimited txt and 2gb data.

I think I'll take this deal.

    • From the T&C: "Data usage is calculated in 10 kilobyte (kB) increments and includes both downloads and uploads. Excess data usage is billed in 10kB increments at $0.25 per Megabyte (MB) or part thereof, where 1024 kB is equivalent to 1 MB."

    • +1

      per 10kb cheers

    • How can this be better than those $30 unlimited call plans from ALDI and Kogan?
I am with Vodafone and out of contract for couple of years now. Still looking for a good plan to move out from Voda.
With Voda I get $550 calls (can use all for International), 1.5GB data (included in cap) for $29. I use most of my cap to call over seas. These plan don't seem to be good for over seas calling.

      • 10kb blocks for data billing for one.

Aldi charge per MB and this seriously impacts your data usage on smart phones as they tend to have lots of small data sessions. Can easily halve your 'actual' useful data allowance.

And well Kogan mobile… they don't exist anymore.

      • $29 and you get 1.5GB? Which Vodafone plan are you on?!

        • If you find that surprising you might be interested in Vodafone Cap 30 customers who get ~10GB for $30 (charged $16 from Flexi-credit per 350MB). Or Pennytel Vodafone data only 14GB for $25.

Unfortunately Vodafone just stopped offering this for new customers (existing customers are unaffected).

It seems we're just going backwards in terms of value for mobile data in AU ATM.

  • Do you have to be an ex-Kogan customer to get this deal Rep?

    • +1

      no it is for everyone!

  • +3

This deal isn't 'come back' it's been on the website for ages. No deal!!

    • +2

the km deal has been finished since last year 31th Nov 2013, and just coming back since late March.

      • +1

Well that would explain why I couldn't sign up for it on the 31st of November :P

  • I am using this plan and in general it's better than vodafail. However this post reminds me the 50% off on the third month, I am in the 5th month of my plan, where is my credit?

    • credit will be rolling back to you by the end of the contract

      • +1

I don't get it, end of contract or the 3rd month?

        • +6

Sounds a little bit suspicious to me.

        • +2

This is bit funny. If the credit comes at the end of contract then you should mention it as 50% for the 12th month, not the third month. :)

  • Hi Rep. Haven't been able to find the call rates on the web site ( e.g. Rate per 30 sec or min, flag fall, voice mail access etc). Can you please give me a link

    • it is 40c flag call +rate which is 97c

  • So if I chose 25 plan a..a.would I be charged 15$ plus 50%off for every 3 months ?

    • +2

      No

You will pay 11 times $25
      and 1 times $12.50

in the 12 months is how I read it.

  • Are there any stores in Brisbane that I can purchase this service/sim from Rep?

  • Any existing customer able to comment on data performance? I find vaya very slow, and aldi quite fast (one is Optus, other is telstra)

    • +1

all telstra resellers have similar speed,in general it is much faster than optus.

when Telstra care about quality of the service, Optus care more about the quantity of the customer.

      with ALDI prepaid:

they changed their plan at least 3 times for last 6 months( from 5GB data to 2.5GB to now 1GB,as well as unlimited txt to 2500txt)

I believe go into a plan and secure yourself for a year isn't that bad.

      • +4

Yeah, I'm very disappointed with the Adli plan changes and that's the reason I'm looking to change. But I'm also not happy about the 'smoke and mirrors' around the call allowances with these types of plans. At least with Aldi you know you are being charged 10 cents per minute with no additional connect charge. These plans charge the calls at nearly 14 times that much for the first minute then nearly 10 times that much for the rest of the call. The big bundled call allowance may look good - but not if you go over it.

      • Just avoid ALDI althogether, they are terrible.

Worst customer service I've ever had and they tried to stiff me on $5 for trying their service and not wanting to continue it after they took weeks to port my number leaving me without a service.

They told told me it wasn't a trial as advertised then "happily" refunded it after the TIO contacted them. All in all way too much hassle.

I don't see how Telechoice can be worse than ALDI.

  • 1 can we set up usage alert?
2 What happen if plan expire?
3 how to transfer number from optus?
4 is the coverage same as telstra/boost?
5 how much for international call? part of $650 if I choose $25 plan?
6 does telstra deal with customer service or telechoice? anybody got any experience with telechoice?

      1. yes by 50%,85%,100% there will be txt msg
      2. become month to month contract
      3. we will do it for you
      4. 100% same with boost.
      5. depend on country…check with website
      6. no we doing our own customer service, however even telstra hold their service centre in asian now.
      • Can we get a link to the Overseas call rates. It's not very easy to find that within your website

here you go, but in order to offer the reasonable cheap plan to our customer, the international rate is not that good compare with other big companies.

        • international calls to nepal is very expensive, any chances of getting it cheaper in near future ? will you be looking into it ?

        • +4

sorry not in this stage, calling nepal the cheapest would be lebara,

        • Any chance of increasing the international rates any soon? :)
I call USA and Sri Lanka regularly. The call rate to SL seems to be reasonable compared to others. I have a bad experience with Voda. I was with 3 before and had a good call rate to SL. Then Voda acquired 3 mobile and few months later all of a sudden I received a phone bill which had over $200 over charge. It was impossible as I checked my call balance before calling SL on the last day of the month. Then Voda said, "you know what we increased the call rates". Wow.. it was increased by almost 3 folds without even informing the customers and I got the bill shock. They charged my account and later gave me credits when I took it further with authorities.

      • Regarding 1. How long after you hit the threshold does it take to get the usage alert?

Eg is it up to 48 hours after the event ?

    • 6.
There is no maximum limit on international call usage. you can use 100% of your cap.

This was the deciding factor for me.

  • on the product review, there are heaps of bad review about telechoice customer service. Don't know it is right or not

  • +1

    Rep
Does 50% on third month also apply for existing customer ?
I have just started last month on Telechoice kogan.
Also, is this 50% is in every 3 months, or is it 50% on month 3 (subsequent 3rd month will not be discounted)

  • +1

Rep, Is it possible to change plans (move up/down) during the 12 Month contract?

    • with normal plan:

      moving up——anytime you want

moving down—-after 6months of the contract

  • I had a terrible experience as a whole with Telechoice recently. I was trying to make the move from Optus so I got my Telechoice sim card and the plan. I rang them up on the 21st to have my number ported because I told Optus to cancel my service on the 24th.

The 24th comes and goes and my Optus sim card is dead, but nothing's happening with my Telechoice sim either. Rang them up and they told me that the porting process might take a day. A day later I called up Telechoice again and this surly-sounding lady told me that the porting failed so my old number was essentially lost. This happened after I handed out a bunch of resumes with that specific number on it so I was pretty distraught.

Long story short I crawled back to Optus and they somehow managed to reclaim my number despite customer service saying that it was impossible, so I'll stick with them a while longer…

    • Sorry to hear your experience, the optus network was recently have some issue specially when you trying to porting from optus to Telechocice(telstra). I believe your are the special case here most of the number transfer from Vodafone or Optus was only approx 30mins to 3 hrs, the longest I ever experienced would be about 8 hrs.

sometime we need more time for porting the number.and again i do apologize for your experience

      • I personally ported from Optus to Telechoice on the Kogan offer a couple of months back. All smooth sailing so far :)

    • vodafone to telechoice took about 40 minutes

    • +11

I think the point is you should never tell a telco to CANCEL your service, that means you will lose your number if anything unexpected happen.

Always port out after your contract end, no need to notify you current provider, do not pay your last bill as usual. Once you are ported and activated on the new provider, call your old provider to get a new prorata bill and that's a happy end. Even you pay your last bill through direct debit, you can always ask for a refund.

In your case, Telechoice may or may not at fault on the porting issue, but they should not be responsible to the number lose.

    • Why are people neging this? Its a valid post.

  • -2

$49.00 for the unlimited is a masssive rip, check the international call rates if you can, they are well hidden, but basically $80.00 credit at those excessive rates, some at 10 bucks a minute, with $4.00 on Aldi or Amaysim you can probably get the same call time. Not sure about Boost international call rates, but sure not as crazy as that.

Good data, but if you using that much, better of getting ADSL if you can and going a lower mobile plan.

Not recommended at $49.00, if it were on the same rates as Boost, would consider it, but at a lock in for 12 months, def not worth it. Back to the drawing board telechoice.

    • -1

hi, try skype—unlimited for asian is euro 3.99 with call unlimited for this earth is 7.99 euro.

with 3GB data you can call everyday every hour

  • Standard rate $2.34 for 2 minutes.

  • Rep,

Is it possible to get one of these plans for 24 months?

Don't want to have to keep jumping plans every 12 months.

    • +1

after 12month it would be month to month plan cheers

      • would it be possible though to keep the same offer that is available now? eg continue paying the same amount and get the same data, calls, mms, sms as the previous 12 months?

        • unless something huge happened we can not offer that anymore, you will be keep paying the same thing with same data

        • Do you have an email address we can continue our conversation on.

        • $20 per month or $30 per month as a month2month plan?

  • Rep, If I ported from LC do you tell them that I am porting etc? IE: Do you make it an easy thing to port? I have 3 phone numbers to port.

    • I think LC could tell you ported to another provider, but once your sim is activated with Telechoice, it is still your responsibility to call LC to make sure you have cancelled your service with them.

      • Yeah thanks. The chances of LC doing anything correct are very low…..

        • I think ozhunter is providing some misinformed information. You do not need to contact your existing provider at all. Leave it up to Telechoice to sort out the port. Your existing provider can not charge you for a service that has been transferred to a new provider.

  • please improve your customer service and teach your staff to be polite over the phone and not speak like a robot. i had this lady talking to me like a robot when i phoned to activate my sim, the second call to activate my international calling service took 20-25 minute to answer but finally resolved.
