i think any android 4.0 come with data usage meter

      • You service to me at this point has been outstanding. In the morning I will port 3 numbers from LC to you. How long will the port take and if I did it over Easter, would that make a difference?

      • Yeh, but it's also good to compare against the providers data, in which case;

        https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cmengler.m…

Is a good app. Been using it for a while, with various providers.

  • I've been on one of these plans for a couple of months. Overall I'm pretty happy with Telechoice. I've found the coverage and data speed to be better than Optus. The only quibble I have is that the usage data is very slow to update. They say on their website that "usage data can be up to 48hrs behind", but in my experience it can be a lot further behind than that. e.g just checked my usage now and it is more than 4 days behind. And I have seen it be up to a week behind. I think they would be more accurate if their website said "usage data will be at least 48hrs behind", because that's my experience. Having said that, I use the data usage monitoring built into Android which seems to be roughly close to Telechoice's reported usage (when it eventually gets updated), so it's not a deal breaker.

the way your description is worded definitely proves that you are a telephone company employee.

So does his "Store Rep" badge.

I just can't understand the reasoning behind your neg.

Amaysim might be better in some way, or equally good in some area, but it doesn't beat this deal in every aspect for everyone. Also Optus and Telstra networks are like Canon and Nikon, can't say one is not good because another brand is offering alternative.

      • Agreed. They are chalk and cheese really, I live in a 'black hole' for Optus reception so can't even consider them at all. If you need to use Telstra like me this is a good deal

      • -2

I put the option of boost, which is Telstra btw.

In case people can't already see, the credit per month compared to the call rates is redicilous including the international call rates which are also insanely rediculous.

The plan is nothing more than a trick to try get you to sign up, use it normally and get excessive bills for 12 months resulting in Telerip cleaning up and you going in the long line of angry TeleRip customers.

That's why it's a 12 month contract. If they were so confident in their product, like other competitors, they would offer it by the month. But they don't, massive indicator guys.

With a lot of angry aldi customers now moving, they just trying to make a quick buck. So good on them for giving it a red hot go.

Best part is when they tried to hide the international call rates.

        • Yes I noticed there is boost, but I don't think $40 a month fits me better than TC $20 plan, and now they both are using NextG (as rep claimed), so no coverage difference if that's true.

All telecos have 24 mths plans, and they all prefer to lock the customer in for as long as possible, there is nothing wrong with it. TC has their month2month plan as well, at a higher cost of course.

I have been using telechoice for 4 months and sign my wife up recently (24 mth/ $10 plan). I am neither extremely happy nor extremely sad with their service. All my billing related problems were solved eventually, and the signal/range was as expected. And I do love their free on-net calling, even for my wife's $10 plan.

I manage my call allowance carefully as usual, and haven't needed to talk to a CSR to express my angry yet. But I reckon it can't be any worse than vodafail which I spent hours arguing various issues.

I still don't think this post deserve a neg, especially I think $20 plan for 1G/$500 a month on Telstra nextG is pretty hard to beat (and the 10k rounding, and the 12 month contract).

        • -5

The fact it is a lock in plan for 12 months plus everything else I said is reason enough to stay away.

If there is no handset, why they locking you in?

Btw Sounds like you work for telerip or got swindled by a smooth salesmen.

And boost and aldi (both on Telstra) have options for light or irregular users, that also btw, not lock in, because they are confident that you will come back after the first month.

This posts deserves a neg as it is a clear rip off. But that's my personal opinion based on facts.

        • these plans cost $5 extra per month if you choose not to be locked in a 12-months contract.

        • I am just a telechoice user since last Dec, and I'm not working for any teleco.

I think boost can be so confident because it's a subbrand of Telstra, just like you can drive your dad's car out with confident. And for aldi, I know they was confident enough with their m2m unlimited plan, but we all know what happened since then.

Telechoice does offer all plans m2m at a higher cost, so your point is not valid.

My adsl provider doesn't give me a modem, but I still sign 12 month contract with them, because it's cheaper comparing to other isp, and I prefer to buy my own powerful modem rather than some basic models they can give you for free(at your own cost in the higher monthly fee).

        • -1

          in their defence they do offer month to month contract, but it does not appear to be on special. The unlimited plan that is $49.00 on the 12 month contract appears to be $69.00 for month to month. Link below;

          http://www.telechoice.com.au/about/news/mobile-plans/global-…

Boost is the better option if you dont like to waste money, get the $40.00 unlimited, pay the extra $15.00 for the extra data of 1gb if needed, still ahead as you not month to month and you get the added bonus, to use your analogy "driving you dads car".

        • I am using their $20 plan and both the call credit and data pack suit my needs perfectly, and boost doesn't have a similar plan. If one have $60 budget for sim-only plan, then Boost is better than TC. If one live in an area where Vodafone has good signal (e.g. CBD), then their 4G speed is superior. However the OP includes a few different plans with a relatively short contract, some offer good values to particular customer groups, therefore it's not fair to neg it because one of the plans (unlimited) is not as good as Boost.

However since the neg was voted out by other OZBers (possibly from the group with low budget, poor signal on O/V, moderate call/data usage, and not care about locking in for 12 months), I don't think this off topic discussion need to be expanded.

Ok, no more argue from me.

        • I am just trying to bring out the facts from all the smoke and mirrors that this plan has.

I also will note that if it was not trying to hide anything, the poster, who is from telechoice would have responded as well. He responded to the rest.

And you have to stay on your plan now, because you are locked in for 12 months.

But for those who arn't locked in for 12 months, it is best they know the facts now, and I reiterate the word, facts.

Other agree when I say that this plan has been nothing but a maze in order to search for facts.

    Just signed up. Few points:

    • Couldn't find any trace of their 'Safety Net' policy, which was mentioned in the sign up T&C's.
    • No mention of the 3rd month (only) at 50% off.
    • Upon looking for the aforementioned 'Safety Net' I looked over the Critical Information Summary page, and the $28 dollar plan looks to be an excellent deal, best one IMO.

I am still on the 1$ TPG plan … so it is really hard for me to change. The 20$ plan would suit my usage but excess data at 25c/MB … mhhh … too risky … I would like to see an option to turn off any excess usage to avoid a bill shock.

  • The Groupon Lebara $15 for unlimited calls and text plus 2GB data is good deal

    • but expired on July, I ended up over stocked lol

  • Thanks.

I just ported from telechoice but it's not working properly!

Calling works but DATA does not work. No form of any data and it has been 3 full days! I called telechoice and they told me to wait at least 24 hours lol.

    • Why "from" TC and where "to"

    • Did you change your APN settings?

    • Sorry, ported from VAYA to Telechoice!

So i'm on telechoice at the moment.

Reset Network Settings on the iPhone already and still no go! A friend who did her transfer at the same time also from Vaya, worked no problem including Data (she just had to turn her phone on and off).

Not a good first start to Telechoice unfortunately!

  • Time lag for the official data check is a real downer. I know you can monitor and cutoff yourself etc, but not having the official tally for 2 days? yikes

  • It's more like 4 days, pretty bad.

  • telechoice =bad customer service, bad information system

  • Just went to TIO with them..

  • Does the cap $ include international SMS?

    • No pretty sure it's not included

      • Oh ok, thats a deal breaker for me then, as I sometimes need to send an International SMS when msg apps are not working.

  • I went over my limit in the first month.. Not sure how, my phone said I had used just under the limit but their system said I was 150mb over, $37 excess charge which they halved for my easily with a phone call, they may have reduced it further if I threatened a TIO complaint..

    • My smart phone (android) ate up $2~3 dollars per day for doing nothing at all when I was with ALDI's pay as you go plan, the 1MB rounding up was a disaster and every now and then they charge me 5c. Telechoice is much better with the 10k rounding, but still you can't fully trust what your phone said, it might be counting bytes rather than kilobytes. I use "My data manager" to monitor my usage, and I always count 90% of the total allowance as the threshold to stop using the data. So far the app is not reporting too much out.

  • Switched everything across to Telechoice a month ago. Got the all you can eat phone/internet package and two mobile sims (if you bundle you get an additional discount).

I dealt with Duvan at Watergardens kiosk. Best customer service I have ever had, even followed up with me to make sure everything was working OK.

Didn't have any issues and am very happy !

It's cheaper and better (mostly) to get Telstra prepaid on the cap encore plan.

    $49 / Month
    $950 calls/txt
    3.8GB 4g data

Sure the calls/txt aren't unlimited, but it's enough for most people.

    • +1

      $50 / Month **

    • The encore plan is:

      $50/month
      $1000 call/txt
      800MB 4G Data

good call/txt but 3.8GB data must be an error

  • +1

Don't bother with Telechoice! Worst provider I've ever been with and their infrastructure is from the 90's. You'll be sorry you signed up to them I can guarantee you that!

  • Hi, Do you have a pre-paid option?

    Thanks

  • haven't had customer service from them as bad as some others have said.

their online customer service is ok (for non urgent issues).
i sent them two online requests on the same day. the first was replied online later the same day. later the same day i got a call from them regarding my other request. Sounded Indian so I initially thought it was telemarketing and I was bit rude, but then figured out it was their response, and the guy was well mannered and answered my questions.

on the other hand, calling them seems not to be easy. it took a few days before i had someone answering the phone to activate my sim card.

if they are improving their customer service, then the effort should be commended.

  • Hi rep, do you actually do a credit check? Your plans are great but I don't want an inquiry on my file.

I wish we could get these plans in a prepaid deal…!

  • Hi Rep, is this deal still on? Planning to port 3 numbers.

  • I signed up over the web and called them the next day to ask a question. Over an hour later waiting in the queue and gave up. I have sent them an email to cancel… I am not putting up with support like that

  • I just received an email from Telechoice asking to send copies of my Drivers license and Medicare card. I have already provided the numbers to both but I don't trust them with scanned copies so I have refused. There is also no mention of providing copies in the Terms and Conditions, Just the numbers. Anyone else been asked to send copies of there License and Medicare cards?

    • +2

Re: requesting drivers license & medicare card, pretty standard for a phone contract. I'd say maybe the numbers weren't legible in your scan so they need to confirm?

As a tip, always watermark your IDs when requested with the company name embedded in the image, this way it can still be used for proof of ID, but provides a small measure of safety.

      • I haven't supplied any scan's so far. Only the Drivers License number via the website sign up form. So no issues with legibility.

Just seems very strange to have entered the Drivers License number on the website as required and then be asked for a scanned copy as well as my Medicare card via email.

Emailing a scanned copy isn't exactly secure either. My main concern is a company having a copy of my ID stored in the first place and one day having those details possibly compromised and used for identity theft e.t.c
Hence I would prefer they don't have a copy in the first place.
It's not the first time private details from companies have gone walk about and I'm sure it wont be the last.

Will add a watermark as you suggest though if really necessary.
