Telechoice KM Global Liberty Starter Mobile Plan $19.66 Per Month ($230 12mth)

81

So I'm in the market for a new mobile deal and found this (also mentioned within this deal posting: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/127233#comment)

Main Features:

  • Cost for 12 months: $19.66 per month ($230 annual fee) with the $10 of first month offer
  • $500 credit/month ($2.34 call rate for 2min call)
  • Unlimited SMS
  • 1024MB (1GB) Data Usage, charged in 10 KB increments
  • Telstra 3G network (see http://www.telechoice.com.au/coverage)
  • Credit can be used for international calls
  • 'Telechoice2Telechoice' can call own network for FREE
  • Only require 12 month commitment
  • Open to ALL CUSTOMERS, not exclusive to Kogan Mobile Customers (Anyone can sign up)
  • Customers must opt for Direct Debit and receive bills via .pdf

The 'KM Global Liberty Leader 25' is also good value at $23.83 after $14 discount for first month sign up.

I think the major advantages with this is small contract fee of under $20, the locked in 12 month contract + the fact that Telechoice uses Telstra's 3G network.

How is being locked in for 12 months an advantage?
And this only uses a fraction of Telstra's 3G network. Most of the regional/rural coverage is missing.

Also bear in mind that this is post-paid - you are liable for excess usage.

    • A contract is not ideal at all, but apart from the current LC deal, and Amaysim offering (both on the often inferior Optus network) for roughly $19.90 - there is no better deal out there IMO.

What 'fraction' are you talking about? I understand it is not the full Telstra network, but I'm sure for most city/regions it would suffice.

The nearest equivalent official Telstra deal is http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/plans-and-rates/?tc=G|E|D|TP|TPP|BrandTermsKWTelstraMobilePlans&mqp=sjXRjnlTO|dt_36013754381_telstra%20mobile%20plans_e and is $60 per month with a 24mth contract.

Telstra wholesale covers 1.26 million square kilometres of 3G, restricted to 7.2mbps. For comparison the Next G network covers 2.3 million square kilometres or 30 per cent of the Australian land mass.

For location specific information you'll have to look at the maps.

Essentially Telstra Wholesale has coverage similar to Optus.

I've been to like port fairy so that you called "rural/regional" area and I have full reception there.

so if you don't know about coverage vs "4G/3G" don't answer like expert.

Are you seriously telling me that because you had coverage in like port fairy (a coastal town, ~30km from Warrnambool), therefore I don't know what I'm talking about?

Have a look at the coverage maps before making such flippant remarks. You'll find that Port Fairy (and most of Victoria) is well covered. The major coverage differences are in QLD, NT and WA although there gaps in rural Vic and NSW

  • 12 month contract is a no go, but it's still good value.

  • I looked around but I couldn't actually find the rates for calls?

The T&C indicated charging by 60sec increments, but not the price?

$500 included credit is great, as is the 1GB of data / unlimited SMS, but I'm curious to know how far it stretches.

EDIT: I see it in the OPs post, thanks! But couldn't find it on the website…

    • The finer details are at the bottom of the page (rows of .pdf) and this particular deal is here: http://www.telechoice.com.au/upload/promos/kogan/KM%20$20%20CIS%20Global%20Liberty%20Starter%2020%20-%2012M.pdf

12mnth contract + high per min call rate.. No go !!

    • What would you suggest as a better alternative then?

Everyone who is saying this deal is not good enough should point to a better deal.

  • Is aldi mobile still available?

    • yes but they change their plan 2 or 3 times within 5 months so ……not stable.

      • with those changes, ALDI is not competitive anymore

  • Does 3G mean you can not get HSPA speed?

    • No, you can. 3G covers - 2G (GPRS, EDGE) and 3G (3G, HSPA, HSPA+ [depending on phone])
