Not seeing the same thing as Gold Phoenix, I still only have the option to send links to my friends in messenger. If I try and make a link in the same format as suggested by GP I get a "WHOOPS! I thought I'd start a thread as I have generated many random codes on OZB that would benefit others but have never been in the random rotation myself (giving me the chance to benefit from the random code generator). Plus I'm sure there are others on OZB in the same boat.
I'm unsure how I use OZB system so I can be part of the automated referral link generated system for example I'm about to join Superloop NBN for ABB this month. I note there is a random generated referral (I will use this). That will entitle the referrer 10% off per month off their plan fee for 6 months. How do I get into that random generated rotation as a referrer after I join SL?

So long as you get the URL in the correct format, yep that's all you have to do.

I had a look at the post you linked to and that's from 2019. I can confirm in the past, I had to enter the new customer's email or phone to be able to get Globird's system to send them a referral link. Globird updated their system, so I can now enter my own account details as a customer, to be given a unique referral link that lasts 5 months at a time which I can provide to others.
When I go through a dummy signup step, Step 5 (Confirm) shows the product and offer detail as bonus_referralbonus and promo code: refer, so I can only assume that Globird's system can work with ozbargain's as originally intended.

You need to remove utm campaign, utm source, utm medium from the link. Only the c= is what you need, the rest are just for stats tracking. I've added a note in there to not include it.

Yes but some stores have 1000s of people in the referral system meaning the chances of getting a referral are very low.
Also see most of the codes updated few months back just disappears and you don’t even realise your code is no more there for people to click
The default expiry for all stores is 12 months. When a referral expires, the user is notified via the notification system. Alternatively, you can change the setting to email so you will also be emailed when your referral link/code expires.

Most of the American Express cards are set to 6 months due to people changing cards often. We tend to put stores where people tend to change more frequently like utilities, CC, Internet to shorter expiries than 12 months.

The system de-prioritizes users who haven't logged in for a while (e.g. people signing up to OzBargain to stick their code in) vs. users who continue to actively use the site.
What about also deprioritizing those who don't post deals in the last 12 months or if not deals, voted on so many deals/comments in the last 12 months?
That will serve as a gentle nudge to support those who post good deals on ozbargain. If the members have enough food to eat then they're more likely to have time to post, search for and describe good deals.
@brisdaz: Two points.
- Given the long history we've had to get our referral system (referral links used to be at bottom of deal posts, posting limits etc.) to where we are now I can say that people will do anything to get their referrals used. This would include posting a nonsense deal to meet say a requirement of 1 deal every 12 months or voting randomly etc.
- Members are not required NOR does is make a member better or more deserving than another member if they post deals. In fact, its something I see in the comments quite often. Of course, we want to see people posting good deals but it's not a requirement. There are members who only post competitions or post loads of comments on forum posts or just casually use the site. I'm not sure one group should be more revered than another as long we're all participating on OzBargain.

But as for referrals, I think its probably easier to look at it inversely. Those members who don't frequent the site as we currently do and perhaps you can make an argument for those who don't contribute positively to the site (e.g. those who have served penalties especially for referral SPAM). Would that be a carrot enough to encourage those members to contribute positively instead? Not sure but I feel like we'd be getting eerily close to China's social credit system.

Looks like Linode have modified their referral link slightly.

Hi guys. I think the format of Binance referral links have changed.
When I go onto Binance and try to refer someone, the generated link looks like this:

The whole point of the expiry is to ensure that everyone checks if your link or code has expired. Many stores change referral systems, links or codes with no particular reason at all. On the other side, users can say change ISPs, electricity companies, etc and their referrals get disabled by the company creating non-function referrals for OzBargainers looking for a signup deal.
Sometimes the formats of the referrals change which get reported in this thread after users try to enter their referral in our system. So yeah, a lot of reason to keep the system with some expiry (mostly set at 1 year).

I've now switched this off as there are no referrals in the system.
The website and format for dinner ladies has changed as well as the amounts. You have to opt in to referring and it seems to generate a link after requesting one, not sure if unique and stops working after 24 hours or something so need to be freshly generated each time.

hi, I am trying to add my referral link for leaptel internet, when I copy it from my account section and paste it in ozbargain referral links section it says the url format is wrong and need to follow what's already in the box.
I tried using that format and entering my code at the end but then if I try to open that url, it wouldn't work so url format needs to be changed.

A good idea to let people pick and choose? For example some people might not want to use OP's referral link, not a random one either but from a list of friends.
In theory, it's a good idea. In practicality it creates a few more moderation issues and development issues.
First, we'd need to have the ability to be a friend to someone else. Would that require both parties consenting like Facebook? I'd think both due to privacy. From experience, some referrals give personal information about the user like a first name or a surname or something else. So I'd guess we'd need to have a selector of which stores you wish to share your referral link.
On a moderation front, we'd have to figure out policies of friend requests. Also if someone wrote in a referral deal to friend them, we'd have to figure if we can permit making these comments even though no mention of referrals were made.
The whole thing would take a bit of development time and can create unintended consequences. It took a long time to get to this point with referrals with many community discussions and iterations of the system so I'd be hesitant to go ahead with this at this point. Just my 2 cents.

Perhaps too much dead wood. Or some businesses are changing formats a bit. Doordash had two different formats for me.
Doordash URLs are set to expire every 90 days as Doordash changes their referral links often resulting in lost referrer and referee credit.
Afterpay's referrals are targeted and are set to private message. The ability to refer others seems to come and go.
For the most part, stores are set for 365 day expiry but there are some use cases where we need to reduce the time to keep the system working functionally for everyone.

I was wondering why all my referrals disappeared and I had to reenter them.
All referrals have an expiry on them to keep them fresh especially if you are no longer with the retailer and link is broken. It also alerts the user and then us if there are changes in format, benefits or even if the store is still running a referral system. The default expiry time is 12 months.
Having a look at the referrals you just updated:

I would like to add my 'EasyEquities' (EE) referral link/code to the OzBargain list, but I am unable to do so. EE does not provide an actual referral link/code as such, but to facilitate individualised referrals they will email you an email that you are then supposed to forward on to others, by way of a referral.
So, what I tried doing was clicking on the relevant button within this email ('Sign Up Now'), waiting for the page to load up, then copy-pasting the contents of the address bar from the browser into the OzBargain EE referrals field. It didn't work. OzBargain rejected it, stating that the referral code was 'not in the correct format' (or something to that effect).
Does anyone know how to generate a working/acceptable EE referral code that is accepted in OzBargain?

I’ve attempted to add my Referral link to my OzBargain settings page, but I’m getting an error which states the referral link is already in use.
I’ve noticed that the Referral Code showing in my app is my first name with some numbers, however when I click to share the Referral Link my name doesn’t appear and instead it seems to be a bunch of random upper and lower case letters.

As it currently stands, Tangerine Telecome utilises the message system, which can be annoying having to wait for someone to respond , if they do at all. And you don't want to "spam" query multiple users, because they'll all be expecting to get the referral but wont….
So the point being, I don't think this needs to be the case for Tangerine Telecom - Sure, codes will vary in format, and possibly length, but it's up to the end user to ensure they enter correctly, and I'm sure an invalid code would be denied by the telco at the time of rego.
