Thanks. I don't need tyres but I DO need a service and this works out really well.
    Things to consider:
    - Pay with your discounted Coles Visa/MC cards for additional savings
    - Have a second registered Amex in case your overall servicing costs are above $800 (to get 2x$100 in savings) - service multiple cars if the timing works
    - Use your Flybuys card to get points on it

    • +7

Won't be able to pay with discounted Coles Visa/MC cards as you need to pay with your Amex to get this deal. You could pay $400 with your Amex and the balance with discounted Coles Visa/MC cards though

    • What kind of service costs >$400 or even >$800? Genuinely curious

      • +3

Most "logbook" basic services start at $300. If the car needs a new air filter, or wipers, or wheel alignment, or brakes, or anything else really, $400 is easily reached.

      • +1

It depends on what car is yours. I know Honda and Mazda both have starting prices for logbook services more than $300. The Honda CVT transmission fluid replacement is especially expensive!

      • $360 for a standard service at Toyota on a LandCruiser 100Series before any Additional Log book requirements

I don't need tyres right now. Do they sell gift cards or anything else to allow you to prepay for tyres on the future?

    • on GC for sale at my car

    • +1

I called a year ago, no they didn’t sell GC.

      • wondering if Store managers can just let me prepaid for "anything "

        • Don’t think so unless it is applied to an account as store credit? But then you will be stuck with having your car serviced there with that particular store otherwise the store credit will sit there forever.

  • Does using Google Wallet count or do I need to use the physical card to pay in store?

    • google wallet is ok\

      • -5

No, you must use the physical card itself. Read the term,
"Excludes transactions made through a third party establishment or payment processor."
        DO NOT USE GOOGLE WALLET.

        • +2

Google Wallet (or Apple Pay) is fine. It’s not a “third party establishment or payment processor” (which refers to things like PayPal).

          • @cynix: TRUST ME BRO.
I've tried it with Google Pay last time, and didn't get awarded so I spoke to Amex about this and they confirmed that I shouldn't use Google Pay/ Samsung Pay/Apple Pay because of this terms.
Up to you to use it , and let us know how you go.

  • Waiting for the black Fri sale but this is based on in-store spend. If I recalled correctly, the black Fri sale must be paid for online, can someone please confirm? Thanks.

    • Wasn't the case for me with Pirelli deal. I made the booking online to be paid in person. Whole other story but they couldn't fulfill my order anyway due to the demand, so I'd say get in as soon as you can if the deal rolls around.

  • Just chatted with their online support and they have no Michelin tyres in stock with no ETA :S

    • Damn, in the past they have been happy to go order them in from a 3rd party (with a price match) and install. Do you happen to know how long it will be out of stock or is it more a case of that they don't stock it at all and could not be bothered looking to source it for you? In my case I just sent them the website link to the deal and they matched it when the person on the phone (ie I called instead of did online) went to the site.

  • What was the good deal on Black Friday.

I have a vague memory that people priced matched SCA and got 10% more off..or vice versa?

They know its pothole season in Victoria

  • Thanks op

I like to have a well serviced car, and so I am concerned that, with all of the technology in cars now, Dealer Services may be a safer option over a general 'all brands' service centre. I would appreciate the opinion of people who know something about cars. Thanks.

    • +1

Is your car rare, unique or collectible? That would be the only reason to keep it well serviced from a dealer, rather than clumsy greasemonkeys from a MyCar or any other unwarrantied non-dealer party.

    • +1

Most reputable mechanics would have a OBD scanner to scan for codes/errors. If anything, I'd side with a specialist mechanic over a dealership (i.e. a mechanic who specialises in specific brands and/or niche vehicles).

You'll find when you take your car to a dealership, a trainee/apprentice will be servicing your car. Most dealerships will only have 1 or 2 qualified mechanics, supplemented by a large number of apprentices, which the mechanics/foreman/service manager oversees.

I can't comment on places like MyCar or Autobahn, but I can't imagine it being much better or worse than a poorly run OEM dealership.

If you're looking for a generic oil drop on a run of the mill vehicle from Japan or Korea, I'd say you won't have any issues with any mechanics as it's a simple twist of the filter and spanner.

I rate honesty over the technology that the stealership service centres claims to have. More often than not the stealership service centres just let your car parked there for half a day without servicing it and still stamp your logbook and tick all the boxes of things they haven’t done.

Does my car tyre and auto offer complementary roadside assistance with a service? Like what ultratune does

    • Yes

    Full Offer Terms available here.

That first term seems like a bit of a killer. Although it doesn't specify black friday sales so maybe it is just the actual black friday day?

    • +2

Why wait until Black Friday? They price match including those buy 3 get 1 free tyres offered by Bridgestone stores.

    • Actually, yes. Last year's sale lasted only 24hrs (Black Friday exactly). So, by the looks of it, they will not allow to double dip this time:( Works only if you book first, pay later.

The good news is that apparently there will be Black Friday sale by MyCar this year too…

      • Can you just buy a gift card?

        • It looks like Kmart gift cards can be used, but buying them will not trigger AMEX offer. There should be MyCar transaction on the statement.

  • Sweet, I was already booked in to fit new tires with them tomorrow.

  • I can't seem to save the offer to my amex card with the link provided. Is this a targetted offer from Amex?

    • The link won't take you directly to this offer, but it should be visible after logging into your account (was for me yesterday anyway).

Unless perhaps the 15k limit has been reached already.

  • 2x PS5 = >$800. Whoop. Got this on 2 cards so I saved $200. Bargain!

  • Anyone still seeing it or max redemptions?
