Love the savings; hate Special's convoluted process. Pretty sure they came up with it on the severed floor.

    • Yep. Horrible process.

Have been billed by Karta and no confirmation email yet

  • "Your Special Card is currently being reviewed. We will provide an update within 1 business day."

    • +1

Order was cancelled with no plausible reason - pathetic

  • Just bought tech head and got Amex confirmation email.

  • +19

    great for woolworths GC

  • Anyone use these for restaurants?

    • No, can get 10% or more at restaurants regularly, cant say same for groceries and petrol

      • Which offers do you use for that? Most comparable ones I have seen seem to be limited to specific stores.

to @Fobsessive I have used this for dining before, worked fine just had to do a split bill for the final transaction to use up the remaining balance on the card.

  • +4

Thanks! This is the only Amex offer I find useful.

  • Got it on my Qantas Ultimate card, thanks!

  • The process is absolutely pathetic. Even with some discount, I will never use Special again

  • +2

My Amex card keeps on being declined… strange as it works everywhere else.

    • +1

      Yep, same here.

      • No problem with my Amex Gold.

      • Same here. declined on Pc, mobile even with all adblockers etc off

    • I had the same issue for ages until I signed up with a different email address.

You could also try paying through Google Pay.

      • +1

That will not attract the cash back.

    • are you using the 4 digit on front or 3 digit cvc on back (it should be the 4 digit one for amex).

  • +29

Cheers OP. Got Tech Head and bought Amazon $200 GC. Use code "GCAPR" at Amazon checkout and get $5 promo credit .

    • +1

      This is the way.

    • legend, thank you!

    • +1

Does not show Amazon listed for Tech Head

      • +1

Just check out at Amazon and add as a credit/ debit card section as usual.

      • +1

Tired just now. It didn't list Amazon but still worked

        • Confirmed. Worked for me as well.

        • +1

Hope you get some rest soon. Just did this as well, thanks Optimus!

The gift cards sold on the Special website are prepaid Mastercard gift cards that can be used at selected merchants.

There are two types of Special gift cards:

        • Brand cards: prepaid Mastercard gift cards that only work at specific merchants (e.g. Woolworths, Ritchies IGA, The Good Guys, JB Hi-Fi).

        • Category cards: prepaid Mastercard gift cards that only work at specific merchant categories (e.g. Aussie Explorer, Tech Head).

The Tech Head gift card is a category card that works at a handful of merchant categories. Special are not transparent about the categories each of their gift cards work at, which makes it hard for us to determine a definitive list of where the gift card works. The list of retailers you are seeing on the Tech Head webpage is Featured Retailers, not a Full List of Participating Retailers. I mean, it does not make a lot of sense to me for Special to say Spend at 76,400 retailers on the Tech Head webpage, yet they only list 38 retailers on the same webpage…

    • This works - super roundabout way to do it but hey, you gotta work for that 10%

    • +3

Or otherwise use techhead to purchase category choice groceries in Amazon AU, then can be used to purchase GC in Coles /WWS to double dip with the GC discounts

      • +1

… although it is worth noting that Woolworths’ checkouts will automatically reject Category Choice Groceries gift cards as a payment method if you purchasing one of a handful of gift cards (e.g. Vanilla Mastercard, Westfield eftpos).

        • +1

          Thanks for clarification:)

    • +2

While $5 is better than nothing, but 2.5% is weak as F. Many reward gateways offer on demand Amazon gift cards with more than 2.5% discount.

    • I got this "The promotional code you entered cannot be applied to your purchase."

    • +1

Thanks Optimus, I did the Tech Head > Amazon GC thorugh Amazon using GCAPR, then added the GC to my Amazon Account.

I had trouble adding a new credit card to Amazon, when clicking add "Add Credit/Debit Card" the pop up wouldnt display in Chrome. I ended up adding it through Edge which worked perfectly. Note this Amazon bug had nothing to do with the Special gift card, dont get as far as being able to add its details through Chrome. Might just have been me.

    • I can't use this Amazon GC to buy the Choice Groceries GC on Amazon…oh no

    • Good reminder about the Tech Head card.

    • How did you buy Amazon GC

    • +1

Can someone tell me what "name" you need to put in, when you add the card to Amazon?

It won't accept the card with any name I put in (and you can't put in a blank name).

EDIT: Nevermind. Went with Cash Rewards in the end.

    • I can't seem to add the card as a new payment method on Amazon. Could it be that there is no name on the card?

      • +1

Press 'spend online' in the special app on the card to get the credit card details to add to Amazon. Don't need to add it to google wallet at all.

        • Thanks. I've got the card details but it doesn't have a name, and when I tried to add it to Amazon I kept getting the error "Incorrect card details or card is not supported". How did you do it?

          • +1

@EarlyBird: I didn't add mine to Amazon sorry (I paid $200 towards electricity bill), but I would just enter my name there, it shouldn't really matter what you put there. If that doesn't work maybe there is something else going on with Amazon.

Edit: Looking at other comments it seems there is an issue adding to Amazon.

          • +4

@EarlyBird: That error message suggests that Special has declined the $0.00 authorisation transaction that Amazon AU attempts to charge when a new payment card is being added to the Amazon account. If so, that means one of two things has happened:

            • Special has blocked $0.00 transactions on Tech Head gift cards.

            • Special has blocked all Amazon AU transactions (or transactions for its associated MCC - 5399) on Tech Head gift cards. Special has previously blocked transactions at the Woolworths Group gift card portal on the Tech Head gift card, so there is precedence for this happening.

I also just attempted adding a Coles Mastercard gift card - another prepaid Mastercard gift card that has no cardholder name associated with it - to my Amazon AU account and I had no issues. That means the issue is not with Tech Head gift cards having no cardholder name.

  • Targeted, not seeing on my card

  • What's everyone's Amazon gift card balance? Mine always hovers around the $500 mark as I find them the easiest buy and know I'll eventually use it.

    • Yours is bigger than mine.

    • cant support big tech anymore….

    • Now its $200. Credit never stays there long.

  • Difficult to use, not worth the 10%. If only there was amazon available at least you can load it up.

    • +1

Refer my earlier comment. You can load up Amazon

  • My BP gift card essentially.

  • +1

Can't even sign up: "oops, something went wrong. Try again later." And now I can't even use my email anymore because it says it's already taken. What an awful system

    • +1

Did you manage to sign up?

Edit: Worked when I tried setting up account on my phone. Didn't work when using my pc.

  • Managed to get the amazon offer posted above but boy the Special process is convoluted.

  • anyone know if these are per account or per card holder? which there may be multiple cards in an account

    • +2

      Primary cardholder only

  • +1

First time using this and it all worked smoothly. Thanks OP and Optimus.

  • anyways to get it work for Coles?

    • +6

You would need to purchase a gift card from another merchant.

The easiest would be to purchase a Tech Head gift card, then use that on Amazon AU to purchase either a digital Coles gift card or a Category Choice Groceries gift card.

If you want a Coles Group & Myer gift card, there are other options. For example:

      • You could use the aforementioned Category Choice Groceries gift card to purchase a Coles Group & Myer gift card in-store at Coles.

      • I have previously used the Aussie Explorer gift card at Shell Coles/Reddy Express to purchase a Coles Group & Myer gift card, because the Aussie Explorer appears to work at MCC 5541 (Service Stations). However, as I found out a while ago, not all Shell Coles/Reddy Express stock them all the time.

      • Someone told me a while ago they previously used the Tech Head gift card to purchase a Coles Group & Myer gift card at Officeworks. Keep in mind that Officeworks has a gift card policy that basically says you cannot purchase a gift card using any kind of gift card, but if you only tell the staff member you want to use a card or Mastercard as a payment method, you should be fine.

I am not sure whether there is a Special gift card that would work at Myer, Target, Kmart, Coles, Liquorland, First Choice Liquor or Vintage Cellars.

I did this on the last offer (Feb?) without an issue.

      • +1

thanks a lot. Will get the Tech Head gift card. I want to buy coles card mainly for the Supermarket. which we can't buy from the Special gift card site.

        • Yeah the Coles/Myer card gives you a number of spending options.

      • I tried to buy Coles gc from Amazon using the Tech Head card last time around.
They froze the funds for a few days before releasing it. Had me a bit nervous waiting for it to return.

      • I'm struggling a bit with this one - have used the Tech Head gift card to purchase an amazon gift card - all good there. But when I try to use to use my amazon gift card to purchase a Coles or Category Choice Groceries card - its telling me "Your gift card balance can’t be applied to orders that contain other Amazon.com.au gift cards."
Anyone else run into this issue or know a way around it?

        • +1

You cannot use Amazon gift cards to purchase any gift cards on the Amazon AU website. That has been the case since October 2023. There is no known workaround.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Ah bummer think I messed it up then - stuck with an Amazon gift card I don't want
Oh well- thanks for the reply!

Been using Special/Woolworths to top up Opal card (NSW), quick way to use it. But only at selected Woolworths.

Woolworths' store locator does not have an Opal filter, so you have to look on Transport website.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Got the tech head for amazon eGC

    Amex? Boycott US

    • -2

10% is not enough to cover the upcoming tariffs/inflation.

10% and more on countries where people make less than $5/day.

Trump's formula: You don't buy my things, I put tariffs on you.

  • Can you order 2 gift cards in the same transaction?

    • I'm wondering too

      • I don't believe you can. I tried this in previous iteration of this deal and couldn't find a way to add a card to a "cart" and then go back for additional cards.

  • I accidentally paid with an additional card on the same account. Anyone have any experience with that if Amex would still pay it?
    Thanks

    • +1

      Of course no.

  • Incase this helps someone and they dont see my comment above. I had a little trouble adding the tech head master card to Amazon so I could use it to purchase an Amazon Giftcard with the bonus $5. In amazon when I Click "Add credit/debit card" nothing happens in Chrome. I used Edge which opened a pop up window to add the card details. Interestingly when I went to remove the card after I emptied it, the edit and delete popup worked fine in Chrome. Could just be me, I had my add blocker disabled etc.

  • Has anyone used Head to Toe Hottie at Chemist Warehouse? I have a few things I need to get there and they are off shopback and others atm

    • +1

I've used Special gift card Head to Toe Hottie at Chemist Warehouse. I loaded the Special gift card into Google Wallet, then tap and pay at Chemist Warehouse at the cashier counter.

    • Yes, I have used the Head to Toe Hottie to buy Chemist Warehouse physical gift cards.
Just tell them you're paying by credit card (not gift card) and there is no issue.

  • +6

The Tech Head card still works at Cashrewards for buying gift cards

  • I paid with my Amex via Apple Pay on the Special Gift Cards app. Will I still be eligible for the cashback?

    • +1

Based on my experience yes . I have got them when I used for both CBA debit cards and Amex with Apple pay

    • Yes, tracked straight away ->I received email from Amex

  • have you tried it for shopback or just cashrewards?

  • If someone is interested, you can buy Woolworths special gift cards and use it buy Ultimate gift cards or wait till 16th to buy Apple gift cards. Double dip to get effectively 20% off. Only pain is you can buy 100$ ones as you don’t get 20X points for variable loads

  • every time they have this offer, I try and the card gets declined. Any tips for getting this to work?

    • I had issues with special gift cards app for payments . When I contacted support any email with iCloud.com ( hide my email) adds scrutiny . Reaching out to support will help to narrow down cause

    • are you using the 4 digit on front or 3 digit cvc on back (it should be the 4 digit one for amex).

  • BEWARE… I purchased a Woolies gift card early last month and requested it to be sent to my wife's contact, but she hasn't received it yet. I sent an email to the Special team but have not received a response :(

  • +1

I can not get amazon to accept Tech head says incorrect details or not supported payment method

    • Looks like it's not just me. Posted comment below and saw yours.

      • That's not good, has always worked for me. Hopefully they are not clamping down on these…

  • Having issues adding Tech Head Mastercard details into Amazon AU.

Filled in all the details and when I submitted it gave the error - Incorrect card details or card not supported. Please ensure that your card details are correct, or try with a different card.

Had no issues adding Tech Head previously, and looks like others have been able to add today.

Unsure if it's just my card, or if something changed at some stage today.

    • Also getting the same issue, have tried chrome, edge. I've maxed out my attempts to add it -anymore will have my account temporarily blocked..
      Hopefully someone can assist

      • +1

Use Cashrewards to buy Amazon gift cards…. a bit more convoluted because CR takes a small amount out of the card to verify the card. So you can't spend the full $200.
