  • Thanks. Received on my Plat Charge. Not on any of the others

    • I got nothing

  • +1

Good one. I buy the Tech GC which I use to buy the Apple Gift Card.

    • +1

I think you can get the woolies one and buy whatever gift card from there to earn more rewards points. Im pretty sure it just works like a debit card? I haven’t tested on gift cards as i just use it to buy groceries anyway

      • I will try this at woolies when they have x20 offers

        • Yeah but if you shop at woolies anyway, then there no point holding on to the gift card and having woolies earning interest instead of you. I’d just use on your next shop.

      • -1

        cant buy giftcsrds with giftcards..

        • +1

True.. but this is processed like a debit card once added to apple/google pay like i thought and confirmed by others below.

    • +1

Good to know - though i usually buy Woolies Special Card then get the Apple Card’s when there’s a 20x points offer

  • I've never been able to take advantage of these offers because their payment system refuses to accept any of my cards (and their support won't do anything about it).

    • Amex won’t accept your Amex???

      • The Special site. Even tried creating a new account with a different phone number, and I continue to get issues with payment cause it thinks I'm fraudulent.

        • Yeah apologies I understand now it’s not actually an Amex thing but more so a third party offer.

        • I never had any issues. Could it be your internet or browser?

    • Did you use multiple cards in the past? If so they'll have you down as a professional. You'll need a new everything, IP address, clean browser, phone number, name and credit card etc.

      • Never used them before. Didn't even work when I used phone data and my burner number.

  • Thanks!
Got it on Velocity Escape but not on QF Discovery.

  • Anyone tried the DIY card to get 10% off at Bunnings?

    • +3

Yep. Works great. The DIY card is my go to card as it is hard to find Bunnings discounted gift card.

  • +4

Last Special Gift card deal people were commenting that the Tech Head card did not work with the discount portals for Woolworths gift cards. Anyone tried recently?

    • +4

I was able to use it last time . Doesn't work now . Got $200 Amazon GC instead with $5 promo credit (GCFEB). Works out to be approx 12.5% off all up.

    • +1

Worked for me last time. Got an extra 5% with senior discount.

Just tried again. Doesn’t seem to work

      • If the tech head card no longer works at woolworths gift card site then i got no reason to buy it then.

        • +1

You can use it to buy gift cards at Amazon, including Category Choice Groceries which is a Visa card that can be used at grocery stores & supermarkets

  • Has anyone recently got bonus points for adding additional cardholders? The offer isn't active, so worth asking them or not

    • Under the offer terms is shows:
"Additional Cards are not eligible for this offer."

      • not the question I asked, but thanks :)

    • I think that was a thing from the past.

      • ah okay, not worth waiting then

    • Not related to the original post. But i did see 10k qantas bonus points for additional card holder yesterday, now it seems to have disappeared. Did grab the screenshot which said offers expires on 11th March.

      • I saw someone post the same on Facebook - woudl you mind sharing the screenshot with me? Don’t suppose you managed to capture the link?

        • +1

additional card holder bonus is now available (received an email from AMEX), i believe its targeted.

  • +4

    Your card has been declined…
Special.com.au doesn't seem to like my amex!

But at least now they have my details.

    • +1

You've been declined by Special, nothing to do with Amex's end. This happens if you've used/abused a deal before. They'll have your name down as a professional.

      • I'm not sure that's the case since I just registered my account on their website today.

Now, it's the other way around - I’ve decided to stop using Special.com.au from now on.

    • The same thing happened to me - it kept asking me to try a different payment method. But the only reason I chose to buy the gift card from their site was to use the Amex offer. So, I ended up deleting my account immediately. ;)

If you're worried about your details, you can try deleting your account from the top right corner under Account Settings.

      • I have purchased these many times with AMEX.

  • Last time I did this my order was cancelled and declined for no reason

  • I was surprised there was no Amazon. Do any of their other cards work at Amazon?

    • +3

This person said a while ago the Special Tech Head gift card worked at Amazon AU, but I have no idea if that is still the case.

      • I usually get the Explorer/Outdoors card and use it at Ampol via Google Wallet.

        why explorer and outdoors card?

        • +2

The Aussie Explorer covers BP, 7/11 and Ampol that I know of.

          • @hellwolf: can they use that to buy gift cards there?

            • @Poor Ass: I did that at Ampol when they had 5% off Ampol cards, eg stacked Amex offer with Ampol offer.

    • +11

Tech Head just worked at Amazon, if you buy a $200 Amazon card, use code GCFEB for a $5 credit.

      • Legend thanks!

      • Thanks Jacky,
Worked for me too. I purchaed the Tech Head and then used that at amazon to purchase a Amazon Giftcard (with GCFEB) and applied that $200 to my amazon account.

        • all good.

        • How did you use it on Amazon? I tried adding it as a new card with my name but it didn't accept it.

Edit: I added it as a payment method first instead of adding at the checkout page and it worked.

        • I'm a bit lost, do you mind explaining the steps in a bit more detail? I had a look at the Tech Head gift card and Amazon doesn't seem to come up as an eligible retailer where you can use it (but sounds like it works based on your post).

          • +1

@danzha: Buy the tech head gift card. activate the card on the website. Find details of the card for online shopping on the website.
On amazon.com.au, add it as a payment method. Mine came up as a MasterCard after adding it.
Use that "MasterCard" to pay for the Amazon gift card

  • I am curious to know how others use these gift cards to their full capacity. I have in the past bought a woolworths gift card for shopping in store and I always seem to have a couple of dollars left over. Is it possible to split a transaction with the remaining balance entered and then use another payment method?

In addition, does anyone know if you can use a woolworths gift card to buy another gift card in store eg. Amazon?

    Thanks in advance :)

    • Yes, if I buy the Woolworths card from special.com.au I just split the transaction at the self service checkouts to use what is left.

      • Thanks for confirming, appreciate it

    • +4

It mostly definitely is possible to split the transaction at Woolworths. If you're using the self-checkout counters, I think the option is called 'Card (Split Payment)'.

    • +2

I've been using the Woolworths GCs purchased through Special for over a year now, one of my favrouite cards. Never had an issue using them to their full capacity.
So what I did was, download the SpecialGiftCards app, make an account, then load/add the GCs into the app. It shows the balance of each card.
When checking out at Woolies, I always use the self-checkout service, select Split Card Payments (not giftcards) from meomory, then enter the amount you've got left in the card and pay. Obviously if you've got a $200 GC, but your shopping is only $50, you'll just selcet pay by Card option (again, not Giftcard option), and tap, instead of Split Card Payment.
      Hope this makes sense.

      • +1

Same - use them to double dip on the gift cards Woolies has an offer

  • +1

No amazon unfortunately, that's a real bummer as that's my go to Gift card for these specials

    • Same, because I can use every last cent of their gift cards very easily :)

    • +2

      Does Woolworths sell Amazon giftcards?

If so, you can buy the Woolworths special GC and then buy the Amazon giftcard from Woolworths.

Since it goes through as a CC payment, you can buy giftcards using the specail giftcard.

      • Just found this online

"Can I use my Gift Card to buy another Gift Card? No, you cannot buy a Gift Card or eGift Card with a Woolworths Gift Card. Purchases can be made online and in-store using cash, credit or debit card. See Woolworths Gift Cards product restrictions for more information."

Was hoping someone had tried it and could prove that statement wrong

        • +5

You can't use a standard WW giftcard to buy giftcards. But the special giftcard gets added to Google Pay and is not processed as a Woolworths giftcard.

          So it bypasses this restriction.

When you go to pay with the WW Special giftcard, you select credit card as payment method.

          • @Xishnik: Oh nice one! thanks for confirming. Appreciate it

      • +1

        Does Woolworths sell Amazon giftcards?

Nope. But BIG W does if you have one nearby

        Source: https://www.amazon.com.au/b?node=5827864051

  • Good. Got it on my Amex Discovery. Thanks OP.

  • Got it on my Amex Discovery. My go to is Woolworths GC, can never go wrong with it.

I've been using it to purchase other GCs no issue. Love it! Was literally just checking last night to see if the offer was back, and there it is! Thanks OP.

    • +2

DIY (bunnings) Explorer (petrol stations) and Foodie (restaurants and fast food) and pretty good too for places its normally hard to get a discounted gift card for.

      • Appreciate the names of these cards, I'll keep them in mind.

  • Checked this morning, nothing. Now it is there!

  • Cool - been checking sporadically as I have used my last Special card.
Can always do with another 10% discount.

  • I believe pay via Google pay is ok?

  • I added the gift card to apple wallet then bought an Apple gift card on Apple.com.au. Transaction went through then Apple canceled the order so now I have no gift card and 0 balance. What a pain.

  • Their app is so rubbish. I have issues every time. Today’s adventure, when I click “continue to payment” it just loads a page with a cartoon lady on it and doesn’t progress. Only option is to x to close. Which returns me to previous screen. Looping the same issue.

Update: force shut down app and reopened. Turned out that screen was supposed to populate the login boxes but was failing and only showing the background…. Again, buggy!

  • The Special Offer is also on AMEX Platinum Rewards card

  • Since tech head cards no longer work on WW gc portal .
Are there any other way to get a gc from special and use it to pay for a gc on the woolworths gc portal?

    • Not sure about online but the special Woolworths one can be used in store to buy other gift cards

  • I guess no way to convert to Coles anymore as no super shopper?

    • +6

The only way you can do this is to use a Special gift card to purchase a Coles Group & Myer gift card at a retailer selling them.

      • I have previously used the Aussie Explorer gift card at Shell Coles/Reddy Express to purchase a Coles Group & Myer gift card, because the Aussie Explorer appears to work at MCC 5541 (Service Stations). However, as I found out recently, not all Shell Coles/Reddy Express stock them all the time.

      • Someone told me they previously used the Tech Head gift card to purchase a Coles Group & Myer gift card at Officeworks. Keep in mind that Officeworks has a gift card policy that basically says you cannot purchase a gift card using any kind of gift card, but if you only tell the staff member you want to use a card or Mastercard as a payment method, you should be fine.

      • You used to be able to use the Pub Brawler gift card at First Choice Liquor, Liquorland and Vintage Cellars to purchase Coles Group & Myer gift cards, but Special completely blocked that a number of hours after I pointed this out. (Sorry.)

      • Coles, Myer, Kmart and Target also sell Coles Group & Myer gift cards, but I have no idea whether any Special gift cards currently work at those stores (and I am skeptical any work at these retailers).

    • +3

Get the Tech Head card then use it at Amazon to purchase a Coles gift card

      • I didn't think Amazon would sell Coles GCs, thanks for the tip. Will need to load up big $$ on Amazon if we ever get a 10% unlimited discount again

      • +1

I have no idea how I missed that one. I keep on forgetting Coles gift cards are sold on Amazon AU.

  • Do any of these card work with buying giftcard on shopback or cashrewards?

    • +3

With Cashrewards, no. Cashrewards' gift card portal does not accept any prepaid cards (which includes Special gift cards, as those are prepaid Mastercard gift cards). If you attempt to link a prepaid card to your Cashrewards profile, you will get an error message saying The card is not supported, please enter a new card.

With ShopBack, I am not sure. I am not a ShopBack customer, so I do not know whether any Special gift cards work on ShopBack. Additionally, if Special gift cards work on ShopBack, you need to be mindful of the fact that ShopBack appears to use different MCCs for different gift cards, which means there is no one Special gift card that can be used to purchase all gift cards from ShopBack. I am sure someone more helpful can shed light on this!

      • +1

        Thanks for the detailed response!

    • +2

I could not add the Tech Head card to Shopback (Gives an unable to verify error). Assuming it's the same with other Special cards.

    • +4

Tech Head Card works fine for me for buying gift cards on the Cashrewards website.

      • How exactly?

I added to Google Wallet and there's no option to pay via Google Wallet on CR (that I can see), And Special do not make the card number available (again, as far as I can see). What am I missing?

        • +2

Special does make the card number available on their website, you may need an account though. Then when you go to the card in your account you select "Spend Online"

      • How did you get round them asking for a pre-authorised amount they charged when adding the Special card as a new payment?

        • +1

Worked it out by checking the card balance before and after the charge. If you've lost track of that, calculate it using your transaction history or by remembering what you've already spent.

          • @SocietyBox: Smart. But will it qualify as you are using a GC?

  • Keep getting my Amex declined, tried all the workarounds.

Will I still get the credit if I pay on my Amex by Google Wallet?

  • Have anyone manage to add Woolworth giftcard (Special branded) to Apple pay wallet recently?

i tried adding for the pass 2 days. Tried both method, "Add to Apple Wallet" and manually input card number, cvv, expiry.

both flow manage to add to the wallet half way through and stuck on the bit where it say "Verify with special".

clicking on "Verify with special" in wallet app brings me to the Special app but nothing happen.

    • +1

try adding to another device like Apple Watch
