Electricity Supply Referral Bonus Increased to $200 for Referree and $100 for Referer at PowerShop

200

Powershop have increased the referral back up to $200 for new customers, $100 for referring, until August end of September. Use the referral randomiser and not Go to Deal to reach the sign-up page.

I got signed up from OzBargain myself here maybe 5 years ago and I've been pretty happy with the serivce, it works well and prices have been good, I've also twice now, had other OzB members sign up with my code and gotten me a bonus $150 in credit.

Furthermore, you can 'pre-buy' power, allowing you to gain pretty steep discounts based on your usage.

Here's a link to choice, to see if you'd be happy with them, since I can't link my code!

Hope I've done this right, I think I got it right last time.

    “Until April 30th this month?”

    I’m confused.

$200 credit on your first electricity bill

is heaps better than the 4x$25 over a year

    • Yeah it is pretty good, if you spend about 2k$ a year on average, it's an instant 10% reduction

      • +3

or churn after the first bill 🤑

        • +1

Hey if I make referral credit I'm ok with that, but I've stuck with em for years now

  • Can i chuck my referral link in here as well? Im a happy customer

    • +1

Okay, i need to use the referral link instead, TIL

      • Yeah you need to use the OzB referral engine or whatever it's called.

  • -1

Not great if you are on Solar

    Solar feed-in tariff
    3.5 c/kWh

Also usage based on 12Kw per day for the $99 a month bill…..pretty unrealistic

    • Yes 5c in NSW.

Which is ironic given that they promote their green energy credentials

    • I'm not on solar. I imagine anyone on solar is going to have very particular needs from their provider so that's not entiely fair.

    • +4

does it deserve a neg tho? plenty of people without solar and a deal's a deal even if it doesnt apply to some people.

    • What are other providers like on feed in?

    • Huge drop nationwide as of August 1st.
Doesn’t deserve a neg unless you can show any other retailer offering significantly more.

      • AGL offer 12c fit which is over 3 times more than the Powershop FIT but also supply rates are 2c more per Kw and 120c a day instead of 99c.

        Swings and roundabouts…..

        • Which state are you referring to?
AGL FIT for Vic is exactly the same as Powershop: 6.7c.

          • @damion: Qld,

but Powershop fit for Qld is 3.5c

            • @Homerlovesbeer: AGL's FIT in QLD is 6c.
More than Powershop, yes, but not sure it's worthy of a negative vote, considering the deal is for saving on purchasing electricity.

  • I used powershop a few years ago at an old address - reckon I’d still be eligible?

  • shop around rates for SEQ are higher than many other providers

  • +2

According to the ACCC most Australians do not understand what they're purchasing when they purchase electricity so I have no idea why this would be a bargain.

Oh and everyone pays a different price.

    • Was waiting for someone to post this. Should've guessed it would be you Diji1 ;)! That's also why I never up vote electricity deals.

    • I'm not following, can you please elaborate?

    • +2

you don't understand how a $200 bill credit is a bargain?

      • It's about a month and a halfs power for me TBH. About 10% of my yearly bill give or take.

  • join via the referral link sent to you or call Powershop and state your friend’s name with the Powershop account on or before 31 August 2021.

Powershop may, at its absolute discretion, either decline to apply the Friend Credit or, if it has already been applied, remove the Friend Credit from the relevant account where Powershop reasonably believes that you and/or the person who referred you are taking unfair advantage of this offer.

    • I signed up using a referral code and got this information in the reply email. At no point prior to this was the friend's name mentioned.

Has anyone else had any issues with this part of the process? I have written down the random referral code that OzBargain gave me - but obviously I don't have the name attached to the account.

  • What if your bill is <$200? Does it carry over? I guess you can’t stack with any other sign up bonus?

    • My electricity bill is less than $200/quarter and I believe Powershop bills you monthly so not attractive for me. The 4 x $25 would be better.

      • the whole deal with powershop is that you prebuy "packs"

    • Almost positive that would carry over. You can just buy extra for future months

    • The credits carry forward. the referral credit, solar FIT credit, and “powerpack” deals when you prepay for energy all carry forward.

  • You dont need the referral to get the $200. Its their standard sign up promo running atm

True but it's always nice to help out the OzBargain community. Remember what goes around comes around with those referral link esp if you have been a member for a decent amount of time. I'm no longer with PowerShop but I had a few people contact me after I left until I figured out how to remove my name properly.
PowerShop used to have normal plans also that were competitive not just the fixed monthly ones but I'm not sure if that's still the case.

  • Does anybody know if these guys do a credit check. I have been proactive in checking the deals for my gas and electricity and switching around, however I done a check of my credit score and it looks like all the credit checks has lowered by score a little bit.

    • yeah they have for me, most power companies do

  • I have no idea if the OzB referral system is even working properly :/ mine got clicked but I think it's unclear which is the right one to do.

  • can this be stacked with cashback?

  • Are a new street address and new email address enough to be considered a new customer?

I was their customer about 9 months ago, at a different address.

  • Checking the website, the $200 for referee is only off the first bill.

    • That's true, that's also in their emails: "The one-off Friend Credit will be applied to your first electricity bill".

    • also what it says in the post, what did you think the deal was?

      • In the comments here some suggest it applies to the first bill only and you lose the remainder of your bill is less than $200 and others say it applies to your account and can be used across multiple bills until you've spent $200. Can you or anyone else confirm either way?

        • +2

          https://www.powershop.com.au/switch-your-mates-terms-and-con…

you can spend it over as long as you like.

          • @[Deactivated]: That links clearly states "The one-off Friend Credit will be applied to your first electricity bill."

It was vague in some other PowerShop's promo material. I get it's just the first bill.

            • @pizzaguy: it comes on the bill, but they don't remove it from your account after that if somehow you spend less than $100 on electricity before the second bill. ring them to confirm, or keep arguing if you like. lol?

  • All I know, is someone def clicked my link to sign up and I haven't been notified by powershop yet, anyone know how long this normally takes?

    • people click links and don't follow through all the time but

You'll receive the Referrer Credit once your invited friend or family member has successfully switched (e.g. we start selling them energy) to Powershop using your referral code.

that can take up to 3 months or more

      • I know for certain this one followed through, so fingers crossed.

  • +1

Good news! The Powershop referral deal has been extended until September 30th!

  • I just got $200 credit right away and used it all to purchase electricity. Not sure why it says it is being divided into periods of credit.

However, there are no extra savings on larger electricity packs anymore. Just the monthly rate and purchasing monthly packs in advance $30 for $38 electricity

    • Do youk now if the person who you signed up through, got their $100 yet?

  • Send me a message and I can send you a referral code :)

    • You are already a customer of powershop?
