  • usually 1 point per dollar as well!

    • +2

I thought it was usually 2 points per dollar?

      • usually 1 per dollar, but it has been 2 points at some point in time. it was a special though

        • It wasn't a special after all - Its 6 points to a dollar now

      • It has indeed been 2 points per dollar for a while now.

        • +1

It only went to 1 per dollar for a while. 2 per dollar has been the usual rate.

  • Huh. This is kinda like cashback, but with points instead of cash. Good where there's no overlap, I guess. I could've sworn eBay used to be a Starthere cashback partner before…

    • i don't think so?

    • Many many years ago.

  • Can you link your account?

conditions are interesting. I read that as you have to go to the Velocity site first…

"Make a winning bid or Buy It Now purchase above $1 which is not in any of the following categories: Motors(Cars, Boats, Motorcycles, etc), Business, Industrial, Travel, Real Estate, Music, Gift Certificates, Charity & Non-Profit items, Lots More and Other Services (under the Services tab).
If you click on any advertising banners or sponsored links on the eBay website, you will not be eligible for rewards. If you do click away, you must return to this website and click through again before purchasing. Auctions won with bid sniping tools will not receive any rewards."

    • Yes u have to go through ebay from their site.

Hang on, so what exactly is stopping someone from selling a used shoe for $10 000, then another person buying it, never exchanging money, and gaining 60 000 reward points? Has this thing been thought through?

    • +5

      wanna buy my shoe?

    • +1

Probably ebays 9.9% commission. I sold something on ebay recently and couldn't believe they stole that much from me… I seem to remember it being about 2% last time I sold something…

      • Fairly certain some things like cars have capped comission

        • which is y those categories are excluded from the promotion

    • Not 100% sure but I believe the seller needs to mark it as being paid. They get charged a % fee for selling that shoe. Not considered a completed transaction until all processes are followed through. Points given, from experience, 30 days-ish after that.

    • Since eBay will claim $990 fee from the seller, they will be more than happy to give you 60,000 points.
If you're buying the shoe from yourself, it's essentially purchasing points at a rate of 60 points = $1.

    • Not really into these points things, don't use them. But 60 points for $1 seems like good value? Can you buy something worth more than $990 worth with those points?

      • How is it 60 points per $1? It's 6?

        • If you buy the eBay item from yourself, you only pay the ebay fee (9.9% of sale item).

It's still not good value unfortunately :( At least, when I looked it's about 5 one-way domestic flights on eastern side of Australia. Worth approx. $600?

        • Every so often I receive zero selling fee offers. I.e. insertion and final value fee is waved. Pretty sure others get these as well.

        • +1

No final value fee? I've never seen one of those

        • You can find them under promotional offers on your account. Usually says something like: "Get your first listing for free."

In the T&C's it says: Insertion Fee and Final Value Fee will be waived for the first item listed in either Auction or Fixed Price format during the Promotion Period (see exclusions below)

        • I got a "No final value fee" offer for one item once.
High bidder ended up bidding more than the item was worth but never paid.
Ebay refunded the "final value fee" (nothing) and took no action against the non paying buyer. They wouldn't transfer the "No final value fee" to the other items I listed at the same time which actually sold and were paid for or the re-list on the first item "sold" but not really sold.
Ended up selling it on Gumtree (offered it for less but came out ahead without the eBay and PayPal fee gaff).

  • bummer, just spent $500 on ebay shortly before i saw this.. oh well

    • I knew eBay gave Velocity points, but forgot to use it for my $85 purchase yesterday. If only this reminder came up a day earlier.

  • Wow, never know Velocity does this, just like qwibble cashback.
    Great!

problem is always to go through the velocity site first

    • +4

Agreed its a good deal but twice I have had to write to Velocity after going through their estore and not recieving any points. Points were eventually credited. If this happens to you write to them via a letter to their QLD address as online / email assistance is hopeless.

      • +2

You're right. I've tried multiple times to shop with other partners via the velocity site and have never received any points.

        • i am the opposite, i got points for transactions that i didn't even track through velocity!

        • I guess you're the one who got acstewart25's and phantom's points :)

  • thanks for the comments, i finally got it :p

Where is this 6 points malarkey?

    • same for me… before and after logging into velocity

  • I just found this one earlier, was going to post it when I got home. Lots of other good retailers with 4 per $ well

  • Never knew this existed!

  • +1

Posted as another deal, but got duped… is it fair? maybe, but the ebay offer for this deal is only a tiny part.

Correcting as it's 4 points per $ and includes heaps of other retailers. Some also have extras such as free shipping.

There is also a competition to win gift vouchers to the value of $10,000.
    Details here: http://estore.velocityfrequentflyer.com/shopping-spree-compe…

You need to log into Velocity and click through to the retailer.

    Some examples
    -Mens Shop (free ship)
    -Wiggle.co.uk (free ship
-Surfstich (use voucher codes listed for $ off for different spends)

    Full list here: http://estore.velocityfrequentflyer.com/az

    Enjoy

  • Returned from 10 days spent either in Vegas or skiing at Whistler in BC, main flights courtesy of Velocity points (to/from US/Aus legs). Might not be the most efficient use of the points but I travel with work and collect points with both Velocity and Qantas. I am sure somebody out there on the frequent flyer forums has found out the points are poor value but I collect them from the weekly shop/phone bill/eBay/credit Card/loads of things. I dont normally go out of my way to look for places that give them out but when they are available I take them. Free flights are a handy bonus every year or 2.

Showing 4 points for me, not 6

    • only showing 4 for me too

  • Deal updated to 4 Points.

    • They must have figured out that you can buy items from yourself :(. Made upgrades fairly cheap.

      • That would be against the terms and conditions of eBay and pretty sure Virgin's offer as well.
