No, one for each hand/pocket, so you don't lean over.
Still available at Kogan starting from $569, only the yellow is $579, honestly unless you're keen for Harvey Norman Australian stock, this isn't a great deal
I just made the jump back to Android after using WP8 for about 6 months
I can say it's much snappier, the most basic functions are much better tuned than Android (keyboard/UI/Cell responsiveness)
Battery life is amazing
The live tiles system works amazingly well at displaying relevant information on the screen at one time. I have always found that the Android / iOS icons + screens layout never really uses display real estate effectively
These are the negatives I would list:
- Nokia Drive (navigation GPS) is laggy, making it at times unusable
- Internet Explorer feels like software from the 90's, Chrome not available
- Apps are sand boxed and their functionality severely limited
- Essential apps not available
- Bing used in place of Google for global searches
- No 3rd party tweaking / customization possible, proprietary software
Good summary. Thanks marchi.
I'm ready to try out WP8 but I can't seem to find a good deal worth biting. I was keen for the 1320 until I saw the size.
My Galaxy Nexus running vanilla 4.3 is very laggy now. I'm a bit tired of Android and not a fan of iOS. Swiftkey is the only thing holding me to Android so I'm holding out for a good deal on either a WP8 or an Android middle tier phone. I like the Xperia Z but it is getting bad reviews on battery life.
Re: your second sentence
So WP8 is better at the basic functions?
(Sorry, the "it's" which is throwing me off sounds like its referring to Android in the previous sentence?)I'm in the same boat as Peace Maker (except the 1320 looks good to me). The only thing stopping me from changing into my Speedos and diving into WP8 is no Chrome.
I belive WP8 is much snappier/better at basic functions
Damn, tough crowd. I can't believe somebody neg'ed you for that comment.
What wp8 devide you using?
Im on a lumia 1520 and nokia drive is so much better / snappier than the other navigation i have used (ie. google maps / apple maps)
Why does Harvey's always put limit 2 per customer? I think its to make you think its a super special deal. Honestly who is going into harvey's to purchase 3 lumia 1520's for $200 more each than kogan.
I had (well still have) a L920, I did a trip from Queensland to Victoria and was not impressed, I was past way-points by the time Nokia Drive guided me, it also took much longer to re-route, so much so that by the time it found a new route I had past the turn
This isn't typical behavior, my L920's GPS seems to work fine. You may have a faulty GPS antenna or chipset in your device, warranty that thing!
Google maps is more accurate as far as addresses go in rural areas but can't say I've had many problems.
Works fine on my L920 as well. Has other annoyances, but being laggy isn't one of them.
I can wholeheartedly reccommend the Lumia 1520. I bought it at full price (well, $829 after some haggling) but the phone is seriously legendary on all fronts. Crazy battery life (2 days off one charge - eat your heart out iPhone users!), really snappy with everything you do, the screen will blow you away (bright, colourful and the size means its perfect for kindle and movies) and its a gaming powerhouse. There are still drawbacks to the WP8 OS but with WP 8.1 around the corner, this is a worthy purchase. I have been on WP for 4 years now so if anyone has any burning questions before buying, ask away!
hope this helps guys!
What sort of future update support is planned for the current batch of Nokia WP devices? Particularly the 1520 & 1320. One issue I have with WP (and many Android devices sans Nexus) is that the future support is so uncertain. When WP8 came out most devices were simply abandoned with no hope of an update. What's to say that won't happen with WP9 (or even 8.1)?
18 months support, if carriers don't get in the way. And if they do, you can pretty easily get on the dev preview.
And while it was pretty crappy that WP7 devices never got WP8, they weren't exactly abandoned, they got another update in the form of WP7.8. Most people don't expect another WP7-WP8 type issue to occur in the near future, it was a fairly massive jump from CE to NT kernel, the OS basically got rewritten.
All current wp8 devices will get the 8.1 update. I know the past has been rocky with this sort of stuff but this has been address by MS i think!
One for each ear?
