This is a spring one. Electronic ones based on strain gauges are better.

There are usually workarounds for these situations, one of the simplest is to keep a spare set of cells. Some of those scales work off button cells.
If we were to revert to mechanical appliances for fear of batteries running out, then you might as well give up mobile phones, digital cameras, etc. etc, and much of modern life.
Someone should invent a mobile phone with a crank for recharging the battery in an emergency.

Not a bargain at all. Cheaper else where. 22 KG is now where near enough for a travel scale. Usually airline allowance is 30kg and my luggage is usually 25KG+

30Kg is pretty much standard allowance for most international airlines these days (plus you can take a kilo or two as carry-on; or carrion possibly?) and most folks like to load up on their return trip with all of their precious shit that will go straight into the garage forever, so to hell with this deal. Damn it I say. Damn. It.
I can't recall the last time my luggage was under 25kg, usually it comes back from the luggage-handlers with 'caution heavy item, lift carefully' type tape stuck all over it.
