You need to physically show the item you bought to customs as proof of purchase. They also check your passport and receipt. In your case, the dates won't match.
They only check your departing boarding pass to make sure you are international departure. Not domestic passenger departing from international terminals. (JQ has domestic flight does so)
EDITED: NVM I don't think it can be done…
Make sure you have your friends name on the tax invoice otherwise the claim might be rejected.
Thanks guys. I will buy with my friend's name.
Please check if the requirement "the purchase is made within 30 days of departure" still applies, and if so, that does not cause your friend any problem. Cheers,
for TRS claim on items exceeding $1000 value, the name of the person claiming needs to match the receipt. Please ensure you buy it in your friend's name.
Actually on any value, the name of the person claiming need to match the receipt. Depends on which officer handles it…
not any value only $1000 and above..

Tax invoices for purchases of $1000 or more must contain additional information, such as the name and address of the purchaser.
plus "Tax invoices for purchases of $1000 or more must contain additional information, such as the name and address of the purchaser"

wait and see

Will buying a Mac make me happy like the add portrays? Will I learn guitar, and be more creative? What about more productive? Will it make me a better graphic designer, because at the moment I struggle to draw stick figures.
Yes, yes, yes and no. Everyone knows Macs can't do graphic design. How could they with that command line interface!
You might be thinking about the iPad, not Mac.
Yes, you will achieve those things with a Mac. What they don't show you is that you will achieve them with a PC too.
For any value, the name on the receipt should be of the person travelling/claiming the TRS and also needs to be within 30 days of purchase. I speak from experience.
60.
Does anyone know if TRS refund care about you have to be physically in Australia when your good is purchased? My friend visits Sydney a few weeks later. If I buy one now can he do TRS when he leaves Sydney? Thanks
