again something like 300nits, 45% NTSC don't know if my old eyes can read properly …

  • Beats the Dell inspiron 15 with DDR5 > DDR4, 300nits>250nits and $50 less even after student discount. What's the quality comparison though, I'm happy with the robustness of my Dell, but it's time to replace it

Our Acer laptop lasted less than 12 months before a faulty screen hinge cracked the screen. Returned to Acer and was told it wasn't covered under warranty and they wanted $700 to fix. Will never buy Acer again.

    • +11

If it wasn't too long ago and you have the time/energy you could go through Fair Trade to at least get your money back.

Acer or whatever retail you bought it from, has an obligation to action a faulty product, within the 12 month warranty. Heck even shortly after the 12 month warranty they would have to.

This. You guys gotta get educated on The ACL

    • +1

Happened to my Dad with a 2020 (I think it had an 11th gen i5) Yoga 7i 15". Plastic around the hinge screws snapped, cracking the screen on its way out.

I am always surprised that so many people think this is America and you cant do anything

Literally just tell them you will report them to the ACCC and in most cases they’ll cave if not just report them and you’ll get your money

      • California has good consumer protections. But yeah in most states you're asking for trouble

      • Literally just tell them you will report them to the ACCC and in most cases they’ll cave if not just report them and you’ll get your money

Literally I did just that - threaten to report, and the actually report. Did not receive a cent back.

This was with CeX. They don't follow ACL.

        • +2

Don't CeX sell second hand stuff?

          • +1

@Ronney: Yes. The issue was that what they advertised wasn't what I received.

    • My Lenovo Idea developed issues in less than 2 years. Luckily just a few days before the warranty expired.
They replaced motherboard , then found that SSD broke down and they replaced it too. Unfortunately SSD can't be accessed by any computer. Not sure if I will be able to restore the files.

I also had MSI gaming laptop. After 2 years it developed lots of issues: the case became brittle, keyboard became faulty, the screen started having lots of lines, and the list goes on. And it happened even though the laptop was used at home only!

The point is: the problems are not necessarily related to the specific brand.

      • +1

You need to distinguish between a manufacturing or design flaw and a general hardware failure. I think this laptop has a design flaw at least around the hinges.

    • +1

Acer hinges on some models is a well known issue. Def the ACCC would help & def Acer must repair within warranty. I've owned two & both were/are great. Only replaced the oldest in 2019. So far, so good.

PS: I've sold laptops in retail and no more Acer came back than the other brands. It's a crap-shoot.

Does this have USB-C power? Or is it a barrel?

  • hows the GPU on this? in comparison to NVIDIA

    • Nvidia 4070 is so much better

      • Of course. I just want to know if it can run some basic games like d2r etc..

Is it comparable to like a 1070

        • Comparable to NVIDIA's MX range. Iris XE is okay.

        • +1

Games made around that time should be fine. Would be lower than a 1070 performance wise, maybe around a gtx 1030.

"Intel UHD Graphics (Intel Iris Xe when both RAM slots used)"

Using both RAM slots, turns the intel UHD graphics into Intel iris XE graphics? How does that work?

    • Magic of acer….

    • +1

Yeah did some googling it's a thing

    • XDD, isn't Xe is better and newer?

  • Which one better the intel processor ending with P or U ?

    • I think U mainly for laptop

      • They're both for 'laptop', you won't find a desktop processor with the P designation. U is just the 'efficiency' focused variant of the CPU and P is the 'performance' version.

    • +1

P is for Power, and U is for Ultra. H is for Hyper.

      • +4

Well the actual meaning and hierarchy of the letters are more like:

        • U is Ultra-Low Power
        • P is Performance
        • H is High Performance

Although H could be for several other things too like High Power Usage and Hungry Heater lol

  • My wife said there's only 300units available tho

    • +1

      What

      • +2

She thought its units, but its nits

        • +1

yeah you gotta watch that stuff in your kids hair

          • @tonyjzx: but I want more. the more the better

          • +1

@tonyjzx: LOL, 300nits on screen, not enough. 1 nit on hair, too many.

        • Lmao what are you on mate

  • Specs say

    Weight (kg) 2.98

    Deal description says:

    1.7 kg

I'm inclined to believe the 1.7kg more lol but where is this listed on the page?

    • +1

2.98kg is most likely the package weight, i.e. including the box and power brick and all that stuff

1.7kg sounds about right for this size of laptop

This or the Aspire 3 from Officeworks $567?

    • "This or the Aspire 3 from Officeworks $567?"

      Is there a difference?

      • +1

Definitely is, but not sure how much.

        Different dimensions
        15.3 vs 15.6 inch screen
        65W vs 45W charging

  • Nice cheap laptop

I got this one last time and it is great - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/882889

    • +2

      (very) different models FYI

    • I have that one, except the Intel Core 125H variant.

Is your screen warped so that your face reflection looks hilariously elongated?

      • Not really. I dont use the screen that often, as it's connected to a larger monitor.

Could the warping be due to the heat of the CPU? as the exhaust of the laptop goes up the screen

        • It was warped from when it was brand new, and the exhaust should only affect one half of the screen (or the bottom right to be more precise), but it is warped right from the middle.

It's slightly annoying, not sure if I should claim warranty for a defect…

  • Seems like this specific model were made for low price offering….I cannot find this model anywhre on AU sites…but can see few on Singapore sites including Acer Singapore

    Review : https://laptopmedia.com/au/series/acer-aspire-go-ag15-51p/

  • How does this laptop on eBay compare to the deal? I know it is a different model but it does has 16GB of RAM and costs the same if not slightly less than the 8GB one here after a RAM upgrade. I'm not an expert so I could be missing something but as somebody with no experience tinkering on laptops is this a good buy or have I overlooked something?

    • +2

I'm trying to spot the differences but can't find any… Same processor, more RAM but also slightly more expensive, same screen…

The eBay one is not new though, it is "opened but not used" or whatever.

At this point I'd stick with Harvey Norman as they're a store you can visit.

      • The difference is the screen hinge….not sure if its good or not good

  • Looks like good value.

  • 8gb RAM in 2025, and it's not even MacOS!

  • Once you go OLED there's no going back.

Also these 1***U chipsets with Iris XE are absolutely shocking for Linux distros at this stage. Be warned.

    • Are they any laptop with OLED screen around $568?

      • +1

Are they any laptop with OLED screen around $568?

Saw one before from Amazon, ASUS Vivobook Go 15 OLED

Belated thanks OP, my son is enjoying the laptop.

Grabbed $550 worth of gift cards at 3% off through Bupa. $33 ram from Umart. 10 screws off the back, take back and ram shield off, slot in ram and everything’s sweet as.
