How does this laptop fare for tasks like word processing, some editing through a web browser (Canva, Adobe Express) and general battery performance?

    • +1

      Any laptop will do that

      • I'm just alluding to whether this is the best value laptop within the price mark?

        • That's completely different to asking whether it can do those tasks

But yeah seems alright, you could also look at Chromebooks

    • As a BYOD
      Yes

  • This but OLED. I'll wait. :)

Pity this wasn't posted when this promo was on? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/885977

  • That cpu? Upgrade vs the Mrs ryzen 7 2700u?

  • Seems like a banger for primary school byod purposes

    • +3

Good price on budget machine BUT 15" and 1.73kg doesn't sound like something I would want a primary school kid lugging around

      • +2

        Certainly things worth considering

But when you look at what other $5-600 laptops are offering, in the 14" and <1.5kg range, they're hot garbage.

So these are compromises probably worth living with.

        Dunno, still thinking about it

Whats more valuable, longevity of kid's spine or saving a few hundred on a laptop.

lol One of the most depressing days of my life was carrying a 15inch viao +charger +mouse laptop around the CBD for a day.

Really glad I switched to a 13inch slim yoga. Though it was 3x the price.

  • How's this compared to the i3-1235U/8GB model for the same price?

    • Extra cores are nice, but swapping is awful. Take the extra RAM!

Pictures from the Lifecycle Ext. Guide_Acer_1.0_A_A show how to do it.

Remove 10 screws, remove the back cover, remove DDR shield… there's your RAM slots.

Looks pretty easy to me, so much so that I cancelled my order for the 1215/16GB and bought the 1235/8GB.

        • Could you please share the link for this document? Trying to purchase the correct ram.

            • @MdMa7: Thanks heaps! How do I find the correct RAM to purchase? is it 5200MHz C42? If you could link that would be amazing!

              • @atom1319: From the info in that document and product description, it looks to be 5600 MHz; not sure on CL and timings.

Check the modules listed in that document, and you'll find the other info.

Personally I'm going to wait until mine arrives and check it physically before I go about purchasing anything.

                • @MdMa7: I did the same yesterday - purchasing the Acer Aspire Go 15 Core i5-1235U version with 8Gb of RAM at $568. I'd be most interested in any update that you have in regard to opening the case and upgrading the RAM once you have had a go. I note that CPL online seems to have Crucial DDR5 SODIMM 8GB 5600 for just under $40 in Melbourne.

Nice specs for a home computer.
I just hope students do not buy this, as you want something lighter and more rugged for carting to&from school/uni.
Battery life should be decent though?

Wouldn't it better to get the i5 for the same price and sacrifice 8GB ram which is upgradable?

    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-aspire-go-15-3-inch-i5-…

    • Good point (as long as ram Is upgradable that is), would be for some.

Anyone know if the fan noise in the i5 would be much louder under regular use?

    • +1

      As a stock config, no

Standard 16GB is the right RAM for the majority of buyers who cannot tinker

However, RAM is now confirmed upgradeable for this chassis so DIY upgrade for $40 + time and effort is an excellent choice if you have the skills

    • I did consider this also… the only thing this Ryzen version has going for it is better multi-core performance and a better iGPU.
      https://nanoreview.net/en/cpu-compare/intel-core-i5-1235u-vs…

The Intel version has better single core performance, better resolution screen (1200p vs 1080p) and better resolution web came (1080p vs 720p).

      • Thanks mate. I'd prefer high resolution screen for media consumption.

        • Not really how it works.

The 1200p screen will have a 16:10 aspect ratio, whereas 1080p, 1440p and 4K (2160p) are all 16:9 aspect ratios.
This just means the 1200p/16:10 screen will be a little taller.

  • I ended up buying this. It was out of stock this morning. Thank to LookUp

    https://www.lenovo.com/au/outlet/en/p/laptops/ideapad/ideapa…

    • It's better, but you're paying an extra $278.6… not really comparable.

      • I bought for a reason of OLED screen
