  • Good deal. Probably a system stuff up. I recommend the Click & Collect option rather than delivery so you can check the serial number to ensure it's the second gen. Alternatively, get a price match from DS or BigW in store.

  • Yeap agree, it's probably a system stuff up. Happened to me last time too, it took off double the discount plus the two promo codes worked.

  • Thanks for posting this.

    Great deal.

  • Got halfway through checkout, now out of stock

  • "Item not available for online delivery" showing on checkout.

    • Is click and collect still available?

      • I checked SA, out of stock. YMMV

      • Not available in all stores in Vic.

        • There was at the time of posting. Possibly limited stock. DS imposing their limited stock deals on DJ.

  • Did anyone manage to get it for $139?

    • Yes. Delivered too.

Error:Sorry, an error has occurred while trying to retrieve the inventory status of this product.

    :(

    • Just keep trying, my order just went through.

  • I bought one around 20 mins ago. But you're right as I rechecked - now out of stock for delivery at least.

Now saying in stock online. I have noticed from previous DJ deals that online stock can fluctuate from in stock and out of stock

      • Are you actually going through to the final step in payment? That's where you are informed of insufficient stock. It indeed does state stock is available initially..

  • It is saying in stock again but when you get to the final payment it is back up to $159

    • If there is stock use "welcome" & 'treatme5" to bring it down to $144

  • I would ask DS to price match. With the 5% off wish card and 10% extra DS gift card deal, the price is $135.15

  • +1

    can get it at $144

    • Did you get one for $144?

      • TREATME5 and WELCOME

        • I know those codes work. It's just a matter whether there is any online stock. If there is at least the deal can be updated with the new price.

        • They worked for me. I tried to complete the purchase at $139 (original system glitch) - that didn't work - the inventory error kept popping up.

I started all again on my tablet, and worked with the two codes for $144 total. Got the email confirmation, etc.

        • As I said above http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/125343#comment-1724657 stock seems to fluctuate in and out and some bright spark negged me for my comment.

        • -1

If stock level fluctuations is your best explanation, I don't think you're rational. Biased? Yes. So David Jones is unaware of how many of these they have in stock? Or perhaps some buyer cancels their order after purchasing the deal of the day (or week)? I've been in a similar situation at David Jones in the past, where everyone was reporting no stock available. Then by some miracle, my order went through. Received a call the next morning advising me of a system error, and a full refund was provided.

        • I don't know how their system works but the same thing happened with this deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/115021 and this deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/118254 and this deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/121277

The products later appeared online again and people were able to purchase them.

How did floppydesk managed to order one when you mentioned 30 minutes earlier that it would not let you complete checkout? http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/125343#comment-1724665

  • Error:Sorry, an error has occurred while trying to retrieve the inventory status of this product.

  • Seems to be still working, but not sure if it's second gen like comments previously state.

Op, revive this post with $144 delivered plus treatme5 and welcome codes.

    • I second that

      • Still no stock. Everything works right up until you hit the 'Pay Now' button (after all the Paypal stuff and everything) and it then throws the 'error checking inventory status'.

        Was a good price though….

"Error:Sorry, an error has occurred while trying to retrieve the inventory status of this product"

  • Sorry for the newbie question but what do we look out for in the serial to know that it's a second gen? I've never owned a Kindle before.

    You can still get delivery!

Put in codes WELCOME and TREATME5 and it comes to $144. Still best price I can find from an Australian retailer.

edit wait, Error about stock… sorry.

  • Error:Sorry, an error has occurred while trying to retrieve the inventory status of this product. AGAIN

  • Error:Sorry, an error has occurred while trying to retrieve the inventory status of this product.

but looks like my AmEx card has been charged for $144.

logged off and checked out as a guest for PW2, and got the same notice of error, however, the credit card was charged again. WTF … anyone can tell ?

  • If you missed it you can get one from amazon.co.jp for ~$106 (JPY 9980) and then have a re-shipper send it to Oz.

I did that for last years 2012 paperwhite almost a year ago without any issue. Use 28 degrees card to avoid currency charges.

First thing on the top of amazon.co.jp is to click the English link so you can read everything.

    • Use 28 degrees card to avoid currency charges.

Sorry just to clarify (because I don't have one but have been meaning to look into it for many months) - I assume that 28 degree card means you don't get any extra charges on top of the nominal currency exchange rate. You still pay conversion rate at the conversion rate of the day?

      • You still pay for the currency conversion but not fees on top of that or a transaction fee. I've had one for nearly 2 yrs and use it for online shopping and shopping when overseas.

  • Price matched in store at Dick Smith at the $159. Not sure if I should have tried to get price match on the $144 but thought that might be pushing it up-hill a bit too much. At $159 still best price I could find inside Australia although probably better sales to be had closer to Xmas. Maybe.

Apparently there is an affiliation between Dick Smith and DJ's and DS get the difference back from DJ anyway or something?

    • It was $152 at Dick Smith last week for the friends and family promotion.

  • Called up DJs online and after going away and calling me back they advised that the item is supplied from Dick Smiths to DJs. She advised there was no store stock or any stock available for this item. Not entirely convinced with her answer as she was a little vague. I think the issue is due to stock coming from an external partner hence why stock showing as available when infact it isn't. Anyway there was no way I could order one. My enquiry is on file so if it comes back in I can get it at the reduced price.

      considering p&h, nope.

  • '19% tighter touch grid makes Kindle Paperweight respond even more accurately'

Are they predicting what it will become?

  • My card purchase was pending on netbank in the morning now it's not. Didn't go through.
    I thought I had it :(

  • anyone got theirs yet? Im still waiting.

  • I called them today - apparently DS had some stock issues, but assured me it will be delivered on Dec 13. Just got the email advising it has been dispatched. I thought I'll head here to see if there any reports of people receiving them and whether they are the right version (next gen)…
