How is this router for online gaming?

worth noting that these are only 10/100 lan ports not GB

mines been happily running openwrt since the day i got it but i cant recall if they are ddwrt capable, i seem to remember they wernt but im not sure. (openwrt is better anyway :) )

      • i dont think this is covered in the wiki (ive not read it lately) but from my post on the last deal…

you have to install luci which is the web config part of openwrt

from my post on the openwrt forum about the dir-632 install (which you also had to install luci to get the web config)

to get luci happening, telnet 192.168.1.1 "opkg update" then "opkg install luci" should work its magic. once thats finished "/etc/init.d/uhttpd enable" then "/etc/init.d/uhttpd start" and you should have web config via 192.168.1.1

those instructions are mostly if your using linux (debian/ubuntu/arch etc etc). to do that in windows you would have to find yourself a telnet client (like putty) to be able to telnet into the router then everything should be the same

  • Still missing the $5 deal…

  • MSY also have the WD MyNet N750 HD Dual-Band Router with 4 Port Gigabit Switch on sale @$29 for those wanting GB ports.

If you don't need 5Ghz WiFi, get the DIR-645 from the previous deal for ~$5 more:

Yes i have one here from that offer. The D-Link DIR-645 also has gigabit ethernet ports. Amazing for the price it's going at.

  • it has been listed for $19 since weeks ago. I bought it last week and used it as an AP. Its best feature so far was the ability to automatic reset itself every 15 minutes, constantly. you can not find this feature in any other brand.

I'm guessing you're being sarcastic.. Mine has been set up perfectly as a 5Ghz AP since these first were on special for $19 months ago, have not had a single problem with it.

      • mines been running openwrt since i bought it, but also no reboots or dropouts.

in AP mode, this router requires wire connection. so I connect its WAN port to another AP (a WD Mynet wifi range extender which I got in another deal) and use my original DHCP -> it creates IP conflicts all the time -> REBOOT.

if you use it as a AP with its own DHCP then there is no problem.
