If you only want one, you can add this: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/1514141477?psc=1
And also get the 10% off. Came to 197.03 total. Once delivered, you can return the above product, and should get the hard drive for around $190ish

    • Wrong link 😔

      • +6

The link I gave should take you to a book called
Jeff the Killer: Go to Sleep (Insanity) (Volume 1) Paperback – 29 May 2015
Costs $8.32 for the paperback. Add this and one of the WD Blue 8tb harddrives and you'll qualify for the 10% off. Did that link not work?

For anyone who is interested, these drives are CMR (not SMR).

  • i have one of these for a long time, but if you use a Seagate X16 16TB, these feels like so slow. Plus point is these are CMR

If Red Plus were this price I’d jump, good for smaller NAS drives

I probably wouldn't trust Amazon shipping to pack these well.

East Digital might be the better alternative, especially since a single 16Tb drive is $326 instead.

    • +4

The drive for East Digital is unused but "factory recertified" FYI.

Given the recent issues with Seagate selling used drives as 'brand new' in the last couple of weeks then it's likely still a safer bet.

I personally prefer the WDs, and the half dozen HC530's I've bought from East Digital over the years (down under $13/Tb!) have been super reliable so I've been very happy with them.

        • you can't even check WD drives with FARM like Seagate. Have 3 X16s from.ED, but 2 seems to be used. I must give credit to ED for packing though, they sere well packed, not sure how Amazing will pack these.

@bazingaa: Unfortunately I've seen way too many horror photos on r/datahoarder to trust the underpaid Amazon warehouse employees - loose static bags in an oversize box via international shipping sounds like a recipe for early failure

      • It’s almost certainly a used drive from a server farm with 10,000plus hours that has been wiped.

Why would you need to factory recertify a new drive?

Remember these drives come from China from a non western company.

You need to be realistic about what you are buying,

    • I ordered 2 of these in the last deal (which was cheaper and came with a free SD card!).

When the box arrived, I was horrified to hear rattling around in the box, and was fearful of what lay inside.

Opened the box and found the drives in retail boxing, safe and trouble free.

Hey all, I'm looking for some HDD for an external drive to back up photos. Would you recommend this one? Ot this one?

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Blue-8TB-Internal-Hard-Drive/dp/B0…

    Thanks in advance

    • They are the same drive.

      • Thanks mate and would the be good for just photo back up to avoid paying for cloud? Cheers

        • You still need to pay for the cloud backup too - otherwise how will you replace your photos if you're hit by malware, fire, ransomware, flood, theft, corruption, or any of the other gazillion ways to lose your data that can affect your devices and your on-site backup drives.

          • @Nom:

You still need to pay for the cloud backup too

Well … cloud is probably the easiest of the third rule of backup, but not the only one.
