Fuji Xerox dpp255dw Mono Laser Printer. Duplex / Network/ Wi-Fi. $79 from Office Works

910

Was in office works doing some printing. Wasted $20 because their self serve printers change the format of your documents. Decided to buy a printer instead. Saw this one. Gets good reviews and next cheapest I could find online is about $100 + shipping. Duplex worked a treat also.

Already pumped out a couple of hundred pages. Goes well. Fast. Looks good and was he'll easy to set up.

The Fuji Xerox DocuPrint P255DW Monochrome S-LED (Self-Scanning Light Emitting Diode) compact desktop printer is a fantastic addition to any small work group. Combining high performance and efficiency, with wireless networking and duplex as standard. The DocuPrint P255DW is the right choice.

    Good find!.
Toner seems to be cheap as well:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1x-High-Yield-BLACK-Toner-Cart-fo…

    • How many pages would that do?

      • +1

It says 2500 impressions that equals about 0.9c per page which is pretty good.

      • +1

Plus $7.50 for standard postage or $12.50 for express postage. Free postage applies to orders over $49.

      • Only $19 here

You can buy two of them for around $25 from a China supplier, free shipping included (and no minimum spend of $49 to get the free shipping).

    • Thanks for looking that up. These days the toner price tends to be more important than the printer price.

  • +4

I gotta say I printed off 300 pages duplex today and it kicked them out super quick. I was very impressed. Plus setup was 3 min job. Not trying to sell them or anything but I think it's a kick ass printer. I'm coming from samsung lasers in the past

    • +1

My Samsung MFLP is so annoying. It keeps interrupting phone calls with the fax tone -_- dumb printer

    • +1

Does paper come out curled after printing either simplex or duplex jobs, due to the heat of the drum?

      • +1

Does paper come out curled after printing either simplex or duplex jobs, due to the heat of the drum?

        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aOoy0UIA6Y

      • +1

This can be avoided (no matter how hot the drum) by using suitable - low moisture content - copy paper.

  • How is this printer compare to the Brother one?
    http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Pri…

  • I think the Fuji is better. The brother only has manual duplex (you have to flip each page) and is slower. Also this one looks nicer :)

    • +2

I have the HL-2270DW - its auto duplex - no manual flipping. Its an awesome printer IMHO BUT for $70 less I probably would have gone with the Fuji.

  • It says 2500 pages

  • great find as my samsung 2010 has had abut 6 toner refils and is printing "average" now

  • Hey guys what the best/cheapest laser multifunction printer that does print copy scan + duplex.

  • What's the difference between this and the Fuji Xerox P205B? http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Pri…

    • This one is Network as well as Wifi compatible. Yours is just USB. Plus this looks like a bit heavy duty and can take high yield toner, means cheaper printing costs.

      • +1

Consumables: FXCT201609 (Standard Toner Cartridge) & FXCT201610 (High yield Toner Cartridge)

looks like P205B can take High yield Toner Cartridge too….

    • +1

The P205B also doesn't have automatic duplex.

    • @ $48 that P205B looks a good deal too!

We have a M205B and it takes the larger cartridge. Toner was very cheap from Ebay.
Had our Fuji for a couple of years now and it is faultless, love it.

  • High yield only 2.5k. Genuine toner not that cheap

  • Brother HL2135W bought for $42 , 2-3 months back. Looks similiar.

  • I'd rather stick with my Brother mono laser printer even though it initially yields less, I got a printer guru to make a few jabs here and there and can now have higher yields. The cartridge is pretty cheap as well.

    • +4

The Brother printers (and a lot of others) detect when they are out of toner by shining a light through the toner cartridge and if its visible on the other side, it determines its out of toner even if there's a bit left in there. If you tape a bit of cardboard over the little window on the side of the cartridge, you'll find you'll get a lot more use out of your toner before having to change. This is especially true for the initial cartridge you buy with your printer

      • +1: I think I got an extra 500+ pages out of a cartridge using the method described by Wampus. You can also turn down the darkness of the print to increase yeild. A 5-10% dial down doesn't effect readability noticeably.

      • Beauty - I'm still on my first cartridge for a Brother bought in 2006 and the toner light just came on last week. I should get another few years with this hack.

  • I have bad experience with xerox. One of the model that was cheap on ozbargain gave me so much paper jam issues (especially when duplexing, too much curl). After changing for a 2nd machine the issue still persist. Switched to brother after that and bye bye paper jams.

  • Appears it is no longer available online and is only available in store. Went to the Hunter Street Sydney store and bought one. They have 5 left, but I had to ask the staff as they were all in the back at the time I purchased.

    • Did a dummy order and it's still available online for me with free shipping.

      • Yep, but what I found was when you go to continue after this stage, the error message appears and says out of stock online.

        • Site not even loading for me now…

  • Good deal, I'm sure the auto duplex will eventually fail though, they always do.

  • Yeah looks like it's still available for online order and delivery.

    • I just checked again and it was out of stock online. You can add it to the cart and select delivery option, but when complete the log in/register/express checkout, you get the following message:

"Sorry - we were unable to continue, please check the following messages
FUJI XEROX P255DW MON LSR PRIN(FXDPP255DW) is out of stock online. Please call 1300 633 423 to find if this product is stocked in a store near you. The product has been removed from your shopping cart."

Could be something I am doing wrong though.

      • no, you are not doing anything

        their website retarded

  • a nice cheap wireless model that handles apple airprint would be useful

    • could you teach me how to use airprint on the iphone?

      • +1

        Ask Siri.

  • nice. had issues using pick up and paypal, said the delivery date was before today (????) so used c.c.

  • Just bought it - not sure why. Actually prob because of the upvotes. Anyway, installation (wireless) was okay. Seems to print quickly & quietly. The front attachment looks ugly though - can see it being a bit of a pain in the ass to change paper. Other than that, should be okay :)

  • piece of crap website

say product in stock and when you go through the checkout process it tell you it is out of stock!

  • Anyone have recommendations for a colour laser (with hopefully relatively inexpensive toner)?

I've always used inkjets in the past, but as we only print infrequently the nozzles end up getting clogged and we get stripey colours. I assume lasers can be left unused for a few weeks without any negative impact.

  • +1

Heart officeworks. Ordered this morning, and it's already plugged in and printing away. Sure, it's cheap and plastic-y but for $79, delivered, you can't complain. Great information from the built-in web page, and works a treat.

  • Great deal, needed to upgrade mine. Just ordered 1.

  • Went to my local OW (Liverpool, NSW) today, and there was about 5 of them, although the price tag was not updated. Debated for a sale, but decided against it, solely because I need to photocopy documents occasionally. Having said that, I don't see the rush to get it, it's not a clearance item and it's also a permanent price at $79 now (according to the catalogue that states new everyday low price).

  • Black & White :(

  • Thanks! Been looking for a printer.

Was going to buy an el cheapo $50.

  • Good find frogger. Free delivery definite bonus.
Was setting up printer over network easy on windows 7/mac os x? Or do you need to install a special software (bloatware) to do so?

  • Genuine toner (inc. delivery) is the same price as the printer.

    http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=CT201918&spos=3

    • +1

For those who are interested, this printer takes toner CT201918, $96.97 from Officeworks.

      OW price snapshot

That makes me wonder why bother buying a toner? Just buy another unit again!

      • +1

IS the initial toner only 1K capacity?

        • +1

Yes I believe so. That's what the staff told me.

    • +1

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1x-Toner-Cartridge-For-Fuji-Xerox…

$13 and for some reason when I buy with these guys it only takes about a week to arrive compared to usual 2-3 weeks of china mail

      • Good find but what does it mean by 2500 impressions "5% coverage A4"?

        • Translation: The quoted page yield is not measured according to ISO 19752 standard but to an A4 page printed by the manufacturer with black text covering 5% of the paper. The toner cartridge printed on average 2500 copies before it emptied.

        • Thanks alvian for the translation. 5% coverage isn't much is it? Is it really worth buying?

        • 5% coverage is standard for most printers I've seen. 2500 pages is a good yield for a duplex wifi printer <$100. If I didn't already have a good printer I'd probably go for it.

  • Could anyone teach me how to setup the printer for printing from my laptop via WiFi? I used the driver cd to configure the network on my desktop computer. How to find/link the printer on my laptop?

  • +1

Thanks OP, bought one, had it up and running in 5 minutes now the kids can stop bothering me to print from work! :)

  • Thanks OP, bought one today.
Was looking for cheap laser so perfect timing.
Wireless Network Capability a big plus.

  • Bought this printer yesterday and set it all up, very quick and easy.

Just one query, if I print say a Word doc with black text, it prints out a dark grey rather than black. Anyone else noticed this? I'd like the text to be a bit darker, any recommendations of settings?

    • +1

Just tried printing few word docs & they printed perfectly.
I printed in both standard & high resolution and print is black & crisp.
Did you go through all the settings?
May toner saving mode is selected?

  • Any other thoughts on print output?

    • I did full graphic prints with toner saving on and got just over 100 pages printed. So it cost me around 80cents a copy. Not a great deal at all.

  • Damn fast postage, ordered mine yesterday and got it today.

  • -1

Okay here is the breakdown as i just bought.

I did full graphic prints with toner saving on and got just over 100 pages printed. So it cost me around 80cents a copy. Not a great deal at all.

    • +4

Especially since you can repeat your posts on here for free! :)

    • +1

So you did full graphic prints & you are surprised that you used so much toner?
The quoted pages per cartridge assume 5% coverage.
I did around 70~80 pages, no graphic & the toner indicator is still showing full.

    • +1

I did full graphic prints with toner saving on and got just over 100 pages printed.

Probably normal considering the amount of ink deposited on the page. When they say "5% coverage" it is supposed to be close to the average text printed page. Anyway, thanks for the thoughts.

      • +2

Assumed that the full graphic cover 70% of the paper and that the yield is proportionate to the covergage. The starter toner only gives 1000 pages with 5% covergage, then 70% coverage would give 72 pages. Taken into account of the toner saver mode, 100 pages is therefore expected

        • 95% coverage

        • If it is 95% coverage, using my calculation above plus toner saver mode, you should get around 70 pages. Therefore, 100 pages should be unexpected in a positive way

    • +1

You know that you can buy a new toner and don't need to throw away your printer …

  • Cheapest price for a PCL-based printer I've seen. Great find.

  • +2

an update for everyone. this is well worth buying if you replace the toner. i bought some off ebay at $12.99 per cartridge and got 450 copies of 98% coverage. my estimate works out at around 2.5-3 cents a copy.

    • what is the quality like, is it noticeably different from the genuine one came with the printer?

      • +1

        same quality

        • Thanks mate. Excellent value

        • Can you link the ebay listing? I dont know which one to buy.

  • +1

hi all! I too just bought this today as I was looking around officeworks.

    Great bargain!!!

Took it home and as I was setting up, i found the CD to be warped!
Anyway, went to http://www.fujixeroxprinters.com.au/en/downloads.aspx?produc… to get the drivers.

I turned on the unit and it said "toner empty/low"..
that's a bit odd. I know that these units never get full capacity toners when they are new but is this normal?
As in, did you guys observe the same message the first time you turned it on??
