Refer T&C's: they only discount the 'air ticket' portion of the cost, the taxes remain same, therefore total saving will not be 50% of what you would normally pay. Nevertheless, a saving on an already cheap price is worthwhile.

*All advertised Scoot fares comprise the price of the air ticket, associated taxes and surcharges only…… The discount applies to the price of the air ticket only, for Economy class travel out of Australia, between now and 30 November 2013. Blackout periods apply.

I just checked a trip in November and its $275 return. Can't really argue with that for value. I've flown them before and thought $325 was a good deal for a return trip!

  • +2

    Melb no Scoot :(

    • +2

Might be worth getting a separate flight to SYD or OOL just to connect to these flights.

These prices are very hard to beat.

      • +2

Just did a comparison against Jetstar for cheapest available for random dates in November.
        MEL-SYD return on Jetstar: $117
        SYD-SIN return on Scoot: $303.25
        Total: $420.25

        Alternate:
        MEL-SIN return on Jetstar: $637.62

So $200 saving by flying with Scoot via Sydney… but then you have the risk of missed connections, additional travel time etc. so have to weigh up the benefits…

What dates are you looking at to get these prices on scoot?

        • I think I checked NOV-6 to NOV-20.

You can use skyscanner.net to check for the cheapest flights on scoot (search for whole month). The discount doesn't show up so the final price is more on skyscanner, but select the flights and dates, then click through to Scoot and the reduced price shows up.

          example $423 on skyscanner: http://www.skyscanner.com/flights/syd/sin/131015/131024/airf…

shows up as $288 on scoot…

        • Scoot -> JetScum any day of the week, even with a transfer!

        • I've never flown Scoot so can't comment on that side, but I've never had a problem with Jetstar. That's said… I've always dodged booking long haul flights on Jetstar in favor of full service airlines. All of my personal international travel is Australia - Europe so the discount airlines don't get me the whole journey. By the time you pay for discount airlines halfway, and then another airline the remainder of the journey there's no longer a saving.

  • Nice. $197 Singapore->Tokyo +1

Bought Jetstar flight earlier for Sept-Oct2013 for $430 Tokyo/Osaka return from Gold Coast (carry on).

      • Just a (sale) price comparison for a faster direct Japan flight from Oz at same time of year.
Unless you want the usually long stop over in Singapore, it is a long flight, at possibly more cost.
Flown many times with Jetstar Oz to Japan with luggage around $400 return. Was as low as $139 Cairns to Japan last year. Luggage is now much more expensive.

Scoot is OK, but crap food. Never paid over $100 each way Gold Coast-SIN.
From my experience this year - you get a useless SIN$50 voucher to make up for so many hours waiting as they delay flights to keep their costs down, without informing customers. They will have to bring prices down a lot more before I will fly with them again.

  • 435 return to taiwan

    • Was looking at the Taiwan flights too, pretty good. Paid $350 for RT Singapore-Taipei last year

  • 612$ - from Sydney to Vietnam, return :( so tempting.

Note: they only apply 50% off for the ticket go out of Australia, the return ticket is remain full price. Still cheap though.

    • I'm seeing similar prices on both legs for Singapore in October.

  • Is Scoot airline using the older models plane from Singapore airline? Just out of curiosity, are the planes and pilots top notch compared to other bigger airlines? Cheap fares are awesome, but not so great when we are flying with newbies pilots. We pay less, they get paid less, and senior/experienced pilots doesn't like that and hence wont work with them?! I probably think too much, but I want a someone who flies like Danzel Washington in that movie!!

The planes are refitted ex-Singapore Airlines planes. I flew them a couple of months ago and it was all fine. The check-in, the service, the flight was all great. We even landed early on our flight back to Sydney. I have no reservations flying with them. They are owned by Singapore Airlines, so they have a reputation to uphold even though they are cheap

    • they using Boeing 777-200. Which used by major airlines. Including the Asiana Airlines which just recently crashed on San Francisco airport . Due to pilots fault. But only 2 casualties.

      • yeah only 2. no biggie….

        • it's a miracle. I dont mean no respect for the unlucky ones, but that is pretty good with only 2 victims on a plane that went down.

  • Nothing from Perth

    • +2

Scoot only flys out of Gold Coast and Sydney.

Unfortunately it is not for travelling next year when I am flying out.

  • +2

BTW forget about trying to price match. Jetstar flights to Singapore (hub) are via Melb and Scoots from Sydney - cant price match. And flight centre you need a written quote so timing will kill that option.

When going to destinations other than Singapore, there are some massive layovers.
Syd to Seoul came up as a 34hr trip! (2 stopovers)

    • Gold Coast to Tokyo comes up somewhere in the range of 15-20+ hours depending on connections.
Did it once and have to say I would rather pay $200 extra for the 9 hours that is the Jetstar flight.

      • the layover in singapore is something my family is looking forward to… does anyone know how long we should leave to get to the city and how long back?

        • 12 hours will do

        • to city it will take around 45 mins by taxi or subway 35mins

  • Just so you guys know. From experience Scoot is only good if you go on a direct flight. In flight service was ok (you get what you pay for). However, if you are doing connecting flights, don't risk it.

My friends and I had our baggage lost after transferring to Japan from Singapore. It was the same plane but since they had to unload baggage for the other customers ours got mixed in it as well.

All of our luggage, except 1, was found 2 weeks after arriving in Japan. My baggage went from Sydney to Singapore to Queensland to Japan. They lost the final luggage, and it took 6 months to get enough information and paperwork for the insurance. I am so glad we got insurance, but money wont give us back the time we wasted worrying about clothing ourselves and other holiday essentials.

    • I don't think this is something to hold against Scoot. I've had baggage lost on by Lufthansa and Thai previously, and the experience is pretty much the same.
When Thai lost my luggage I was travelling from Melbourne to Germany via Bangkok. When I finally got it back about 6 months later, the bags had done more travel than most people (via China and god knows where else).

When baggage is lost it's a nightmare to trace through the various baggage tracking systems. Someone has to first find the bag, then log it in the lost baggage register. Then someone else has to look for the bag. If the bag tag is missing, or disconnected from your passenger record, then it comes down to bag descriptions…

      • I guess I am not as patient and forgiving as you. I understand it happens sometimes, and it isn't easy to track it and return it but I guess didn't have a good experience. They weren't really nice about it, and they seemed like they wanted to avoid the subject.

It has been 6 months now and we have given up on finding the luggage.

        • I didn't say you need to enjoy the experience of lost bags or be happy about it - but all airlines are the same on this one. Frustrating experience and time consuming experience.

I was more saying that it's not necessarily a problem only afflicting Scoot. If you crossed off every airline because you heard of someone who has their bags go missing, you'd never be able to fly.

I could strike out 4 airlines, based purely on person experience. In this thread alone, 5 airlines are mentioned as having lost bags. Jump on www.airlinecomplaints.org and you can probably wipe out the entire airline industry…

        • +1

I think you maybe missing the point. Its human nature to make mistakes, and airlines are run by humans. Its not the loss of the bags, which as you say can happen with all airlines.

Its the way they handle it. (and to some extent how you handle them)

I have been fortunate with 30 years of flying to have only had my bags "lost" 3 times.

Each time these were handled exceptionally well by the airline. One time my bags arrived at home 15 minutes after I did (2 hour train trip from the airport vs courier delivery) if that was the norm I'd lose them every trip, saving me lugging onto the train etc.

But 6 months with poor actions from the airline is an issue

  • I had mine lost by qantas and cathay before as well.

  • Thanks - perfect timing! $300ish return, not bad … if only the dollar was still strong and the brazilian expedia trick was active!

  • Less that $1400 return to Singapore for four of us in October school holidays!
