Sangean DAB+ Portable Radio inc Leather Case - $12.99 @ DSE (In Store Only + Limited Stock)

290

Just spotted this in the clearance section, selling for $116 at Harvey Norman, stock is quite limited but seems to be quite a few stores around the Brisbane area that have stock.

Very little stock around Melbourne area though.

I have the Sangean Tradie radio for work and i'm very happy with the quality and sound, so I'm assuming the sound for this size device will be decent.

Thanks OP grabbed the last one from Phoenix Perth… Great present for mum! Brownie points for me!

    • So late how can you grabbed the last one?

Perth is a bit behind the rest of Australia…

  • Does this works on a power cable? and also it says 10 preset stations. Can I also access station that have Digital Radio but isn't preset?

    • Will almost certainly come with its own plugpack.
Definite yes for the second question. Limited presets are a pain, but you just scroll through the list for the station you're after (as on all digital radios).

      • Thanks Tas!

        • Specs say it comes with a plugpack.
Sangean is a great brand for anyone unfamiliar.
          Bargain of the month, easily.

        • -2

It's not a bargain of there is hardly any stock…

It's not a bargain of there is hardly any stock…

Just because there's no stock near you doesn't mean it's not a bargain..

        • Spot on ! For those that do nab one, I'm sure they'll be appreciative of you posting this up.

      • +1

Comes with a charging cable. but no power pack. I'm simply using one of my many USB chargers from around the house…there is also a switch on the side of the unit to turn charging on or off, which I assume means you can run off the USB power pack full time

    • Out of the box, thats the only way this model operates. Reviews say it runs on ordinary or rechargable batteries (not included).
      Facilities
      Rechargeable battery facility.

Boxed Contents Sangean Portable Radio DAB+/FM, AC adapter, elegant leather travel case and user information booklet.

      • May also operate via USB.

  • no stock within 150kms of the ACT…

    • Not exactly correct, showing low stock in Belconnen…could be 1 or 2…

  • Brisbane QLD Stock according to website (postcode 4113):

    Logan Central
    Calamvale
    Sunnybank

    These stores are showing stock!

    • Low Stock (ie probably none, old display model, or missing parts) at 2 of 3 of those!
Other Low Stock stores in Brissie like Toombul & Chermside.

  • This model's speaker is quite tinny, but very cheap for $13. The bigger model DPR-69 is absolutely brilliant, anyone who likes to listen to radio will love this. 5 presets for digital and 5 for FM. Once you listen to digital you can't go back to analogue. I don't think digital broadcasts in stereo.

    • Once you listen to digital you can't go back to analogue.

Too right, I switch between 80's and 90's radio, no ads, just great tunes all day!

    • Hi most digital radio stations broadcast in stereo. Some stations like skysport is in mono.

      • If you are wearing headphones and you hear all the sound in the middle of your head, that's mono.
If you can hear instruments or vocals only on one side, that's stereo.

I still think all stations broadcast mono.

          Wut?

As usual no stock in SA.

  • lol tradie radio

    • A tradieo!

  • Broken Hill NSW showing in stock

    • But probably no DAB signal though.

  • stock is quite limited but seems to be quite a few stores around the Brisbane area that have stock.

Only found 1 around Brissie listing as having any stock. Some stores list as Low Stock (often display, stock that does not exist, faulty, missing parts or otherwise unsaleable).

  • Another option is a DAB+ Tuner stick. Scoopon has a combined DTV & DAB Stick for $20 delivered - don't know about the quality http://www.scoopon.com.au/deals/46040/usb-digital-hdtv-dab-t…

    All gone!

    • Rubbish! How have you worked that out with the stores closed??? Stock showing near me, as I posted before you.
Stock was bought before stores closed in WA, so there may be still more there. No one has been able to buy until the stores open.
      This is OZBargain, not MELBargain!

    • Just got 1 in Brisbane. So much for all gone!!

      • which store mate?

        • Too late. Posted as sold out at 9am below - Sunnybank.

  • In Brisbane, Sunnybank (says In Stock, but not updated yet) has sold out this morning, Carindale (Low Stock) only has the box - stock is missing.
DS system has an order for 500 more arriving around 12 July.

There's no way these things are worth $116. Harvey Norman is a ripoff.

    • Harvey Norman Martin Place told me they had 5 in stock and then when I asked to pricematch they checked with the manager and discovered those 5 had disappeared to be replaced with 2 with broken batteries.

      Oh well.

  • Can OP be updated to [QLD only]?

    • What about those who posted that they bought in WA??

  • Will this work overseas?

    • As far as digital reception is concerned it depends on where you're going. Most countries that have digital radio only have DAB. The DAB+ standard is not backwards compatible. More countries are proposing to come onboard in the future.

Apart from Oz, only a smattering have DAB+ at the moment. Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Ireland and a couple of others.
Japan, China, the U.S, and, presumably, most of Europe - eventually…

Just to clarify some of the other questions and confusion above:
Other than a couple of sport stations, all broadcasts are in stereo.
Even if you've got dodgy FM reception in a given spot, you are more likely than not to have functional digital reception. That has been my experience.

I've had a digital radio for about four years now, and the biggest issue sound quality wise is bitrate, and the way some networks have behaved is disgraceful.

All have purchased / been allocated a certain amount of bandwidth. The more stations they spinout, the more they have to cut bitrates for individual stations.
As a result there are now many (music specific) stations with POORER sound quality than good FM. Only a relatively small number of stations still have a bitrate that I personally consider acceptable. I am picky though.

Only other issues worth mentioning for newbies is that - just like digital TV - channel change is not instant in the way that analogue is, and that (depending on brand/model/firmware) occasional rebooting - just like a computer - needs to happen. My experience anyway.
        Hope that all helps.

has a bit :) on bit rate and say that 128 is acceptable when i think most station broadcast around 42 if i am not mistake.

        • Checking on this radio in Brisbane, ABC news stations are 48, local 64, sports 40, music 80.
SBS info is 40, music 64.
Some commercial music stations are 88 (4BC, 4BH). Most are 48 or 64.

Stores with 'Collect in store (Low stock)' (9):
Bateau Bay, Belconnen (Large), Broome, Emerald, Griffith, Sunnybank, Sydney George Street (Large), Tamworth, Warwick Palmerin Street.

    • That info may not be correct! Sunnybank has no stock. I posted it's 2 sold out at 9am yesterday. I was in store picking mine up. I went through the quit stock lists with the manger, and we checked for the interesting items :-) Some were on the system, but had not been seen in ages, probably stolen.

There are other stores with low stock like Carindale, but all they could find was an empty box! Others (Sydney!!) are likely to be phantom stock, given OBers were ringing the stores yesterday.
