UPDATED (Full 800 SKU Included See Update 2) Deal Extreme - 50% off Hundreds of Items!

AUDirect0515

Deal Extreme offering 50% off a huge selection of items!!

There's Quad Core Tablets (under $100)
http://dx.com/p/freelander-pd30-quad-core-8-ips-capacitive-s…

Exynos 7" tab for $88
http://dx.com/p/freelander-pd10hd-7-ips-exynos4412-quad-core…

THL W8 Quad Core phone ($116)
http://dx.com/p/thl-w8-android-4-1-quad-core-bar-phone-w-5-0…

Update:

http://dx.com/mayhalfprice?utm_source=dx&utm_medium=cdn&utm_…

According to this, they will be rotating the deals throughout the day (800 SKUs with total quantity of 40,000) to cover a bunch of other products too. Check back whenever you can to see if theres anything new!

Update 2:

http://dx.com/mayhalfprice/Default/ShoppingList

They have pushed out another list of more items! It does verify the theory that the initial page was for DX AU deliveries whilst this is the International 50% off section. Please be aware that there will be longer delivery times for this since it needs to be shipped directly from China as opposed to the DX AU (which apparently has warehouse in Perth).

Update 3:
Offer is pretty much officially "Ozbargained" with the only remaining stock to be either very specialist products (Spare battery for product x), Seasonal products (Christmas), or stuff that not many people want. The only thing I am hoping for is that they can fulfill all orders so everyone is happy.

DX has subtly stated however, (Broken English) "If the customers who participate in this activity are more than expected which results in lack of product supply, we have to process refund for the oversold items, please kindly understand." which may account for some people's Paypals reported refunded against.

Update 4:

Have to apologise in advance to anyone who doesnt get the stock for this deal. Despite being the OP and putting the order through before others, I have now received a cancellation against my two orders (W8 and PD10). It is seemingly like a lottery to get stock. Very very disappointed. :(

Update 5:

After a disappointing weekend, DX has now come back to affected customers with a voucher that's worth 15% of the original total order. So, if your order was $200, then they will give you back $30 worth as a rebate in compensation to be used in DX. Apparently the stock is still available - but not it has changed to a different SKU but they are offering 15% off the original price. This is pretty beneficial if your original order was expensive (and hence you can get back a higher rebate value) - but typically most would only have done a $200 order with $30 rebated.

The new link is here: http://dx.com/l/au-direct/2013-02/special-items.aspx

As you can see, the deal is nowhere near as good as before. However, it is up to you as an individual to see if it is still good value enough to continue making the purchases.

  • Seems Ozbargain still serves advertisements from DX on the home page. I thought they are banned by now.

    • Just been chatting with Clare. Said my order will be shipped in 2 days. Will see???? Ordered PD80-HD

Sorry: Don't know why I replied to your comment.

      • Was your order one of those that was previously "cancelled"?

        • No mate. My order was not cancelled. Still said Payment verified. Order is being processed.

  • Just contacted live chat said my order will be sent in 2-3 days. We will see

  • Check this funny chat I just had.

have you rung paypal as per my post below yet? Make sure you complain to them. The Best thing to do it to disrupt their income source if you want revenge.

  • My account status suddenly has a line: 5/19/2013 7:22:03 PM PendingPayment Order has been created, awaiting payment. They have already issued a paypal refund, don't have a clue whats going on

    • I have exactly the same status… paypal refunded and payment waiting…

      • it's paypal refund payment processing

  • I'm long time reader here, just signed up to participate in this thread to share my experience with this deal so far.

I ordered PD80HD at around 2:00PM on Wed, paid via paypal.. DX did NOT asked me anything for verification (I have purchased few items from them before). My order status is still showing 'payment confirmed'.. I did live chat with DX this morning to check updates and they told me that my order is still confirmed and will be shipped within 2-3 days… So I think there is still some hope (if your order is yet not cancelled). I must say my DX account is around 3-4 yrs old.

    • My DX account's 6 years old and have used them regularly. My order hasn't been cancelled yet so I'm still patiently waiting.

      • Yup same here around that age, but one thing has been consistent, their "no stock" for the THL W8 phone, so I guess they are shipping available stock to those waiting…

Got my cancelled order only today, ordered early on the day too way before stock was listed as sold out. Pathetic company, at times like these I wish we could revoke +ves and neg after.

    All,

I have been thinking that the only way to resolve this issue is not through ACCC or equivalent since they only have sufficient jurisdiction within Australia. However, we should be cutting them off at the source of their income - Paypal.

I just got off the phone with Paypal directly to put in a dispute verbally on the phone against Deal Extreme. They acknowledge a bit of suspicious activity coming out of Deal Extreme and that a massive number of transactions have been refunded today. I have asked for an investigation to take place to remove Deal Extreme as a vendor from their merchant services since they are false advertising. If Paypal is removed from Deal Extreme, then it would hurt this company rather financially since a significant part of their income will come from this source.

Paypal can be contacted by logging in and then going to this section:

    https://www.paypal.com/au/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_help&t=escalat…

    Contact via phone
then it will give you the details on the phone number to call (1800 toll free) and a 6 digit code to put in. You will need to navigate through the phone menus into a dispute area and then ask to speak to an operator. It would help if everyone that has this issue put their thoughts through and have this company removed from Paypal.

I doubt that PayPal will act on DX. DX takes in A$190m/year in sales (rising sharply). CC companies/PayPal make 2.75% or $5.5m/year in fees from this. They won't slaughter a golden goose.

      Financial details taken from here:
      http://seekingalpha.com/instablog/5326871-miamia/1261341-epr…
      http://www.morningstar.com/invest/stocks/336243-08086-epro-l…

      • Nope.. But when their reputation is on the line so that they provide merchant services for a scamming or dishonest organisation, it will impact on them as a provider as well. I had articulated this with Paypal that it is in their best interest to only offer services to legitmate business that look after their customers. They would also lose out a fair amount of administration when these businesses move money in and out like this as well and the business ends up being viewed as a risk and liability to Paypal.

Its very much the same analogy as banks - if one of their merchants are dishonest and a number of complaints have been made against this merchant, then they will move in to sever the link and that particular merchant/business will lose the bank's services. Its all about the risks of doing business.

        • with Ebay seller, I would say yes because Paypal will protect Ebay's brand and Ebay assigns account managers to monitor all the big Ebay sellers (depends on the turnover and number of feedbacks and they are based in Burnaby which is not far from downtown Vancouver, B.C. in Canada). Not sure about websites because it's only hurting their own business brands not paypal's. How do I know all these? Because I had dealt with them on the phone in the past and frankly they don't give a rat's axx about your business cash flow turnover. They can suspend or limit your sales in any given time even without warning.

    • +1

      FYI:

I have also confirmed with paypal that the amount refunded is the full amount that you paid for - down to the original exchange rate (which dropped recently). So:
PD10HD - $88.79 USD was charged $92.38 AUD. Refund amount is also $88.79 and then converted back into Paypal as $92.38 AUD.
W8 - $116.75 USD was charged $121.47 AUD. Refund amount was also $116.75 and then converted back into Paypal as $121.47 AUD.

So that there was no loss on either the Paypal Handling costs or the currency exchange rate.

Thought I would sign up and mention my PD30 is at shipment stage. Provided a tracking number through toll. I put my order through at 6.01pm 14/5

    • Mine is too, but when I clicked into the tracking number it is not recognized by Toll. I am starting to think its a sham!

      • not defending DX at all but sometimes the tracking numbers dont work properly. a lot of packages i get only appear when they are delivered…

      • Yeah, either that or you are too fast(toll hasn't updated yet)

    • Toll Tracking numbers take upto 24hrs to update details…

  • Anyone had issue with the refund??

I received refund notification back to my credit card from DX, but when I check my credit card transaction I didn't see any money refund at all. DX operator said they refunded already, and it is the credit card company who delayed it and ask me to contact the card company, or wait 7 to 21 working days after… I called my credit card company and they said credit card money refund should available immediately and they didn't receive any refund to my credit card from DX.

Anyone had similar issue?? What should I do next? I paid it with Single Use Prepaid Credit Card with low protection and support. Will there be chance Single Use Prepaid Credit Card won't accept refund as it's not reloadable??

    • Will there be chance Single Use Prepaid Credit Card won't accept refund as it's not reloadable??

You got yourself quite the predicament there. My guess/s is its lost somewhere floating around the WWW as 1's & 0's, the card issuer will pocket the money or it will bounce back into 'you know whos' PP acc.

  • so is it just the orders from the AU Direct deal that are getting cancelled? or the worldwide 800SKU 50% sale? or both?

I havent received cancellation of my order (mk808b+f10 mele air mouse) from the 800sku sale yet but seems like it might happen. I would of hoped the items would be shipped by now..

    • +1

Looks like the AU Orders at this time because the International sale took preference in obtaining stock. Also, the International orders did stop in time for the system to not oversell - hence why it is still good.

  • From DX live chat:

"We apologize for this, but we found the quantity of orders with AU Direct are far more than we could handle, So we have to cancel them. And we will issue the refund one by one until all done. We will send via e-mail to notify you about the compensation about your order in the next 5 days. Thanks for your kind understanding."

No mention of re sending cancelled orders even after I questioned directly multiple times.

    • Pissing off an entire country is certainly an interesting business practice. My orders were all cancelled and I wont be buying anything from that store again.

    • send via e-mail to notify you about the compensation

      Most likely a voucher…

  • Anyone else still seeing the Payment Confirmed status for their PD80 HD (Au Direct) order?

I ordered mine early in the morning when this post was made, and it's still saying Payment Confirmed. Wondering if they're just taking their time in cancelling mine, or did I get lucky? If they're going to cancel it I really hope they do it soon because I'd rather have my money back asap then.

    • +2

You can cancel your own order…, just head to "My Orders", hover above "Available Actions" and hit cancel.

    • Mine still saying Payment Confirmed :(

Just got an email (after being canceled and refunded)

    Dear AU Direct Customer,
Please accept DealExtreme’s sincerest apologies for cancellations made on the 15.5.2013 for the 50% off promotion. DX underestimated the amount of traffic and sales on the day and so have had technical issues with the system and with cancelled orders. We deeply regret our mistake and feel that we must make up for it by offering all those whose orders were cancelled, a discount as well as other rewards.

So please look below at what we have issued to all our AU Direct customers’ whose orders were cancelled and who had a difficult experience ordering on DX in the last promotion.

    AU Direct Customers:
    1. Your money will be refunded on Monday 20.05.2013
    2. We will give you a 15% Gift Card of your cancelled orders value in 5.15. This can be used order between these dates. ie, if your canceled order value is $200, we will give you 15% of $200 as $30 as GC.
Your individual Gift Card code is: <hahahahah no you can't have my code>

    Amount: $23.79675

    Valid Date: 20.05.2013-20.07.2013

    1. We will offer the products which are still in supply from the 5.15 promotion on the best discount we can offer for your next purchase. Ie, if you order a tablet pc that was on the 5.15 promo, we will offer it again to you with discount between 15%-35%. Check out here: http://dx.com/l/au-direct/2013-02/special-items.aspx

Some products are still in manufacturing , so some of the products supply time will be 5-7 days. Please be patient and if you have any questions please contact our customer service.

    Yours Sincerely,
    AU Direct Team

basically just want us to pay more for the same items and keep buying crap each month

      • Exactly!

    • I would usually complain about poor service, but they have just offered me $40 compensation :)

    • Great if your order was $500 or something to get back $75..

But the average order in the offer would have been like @$200 (Phone + Tablet) or $30+

Sigh.. not sure if this is good enough to be honest..

    • Okaaaaay, so they cancelled my order because they didn't have enough stock, but now they have stock to send me if I use their voucher and pay them more than before?

Nice, DX. I'd rather use the voucher on something that's exactly the same value as the voucher, cost YOU money, and buy my tablet from someone else.

      • +1

I reckon this is not that bad, i mean sure we didn't get the items but at least we don't have minimum spend on the coupons?

      • Just use the code for the cheaper items, that way you won't lose much.

I am not paying full price for those phones or tablets. No way!

    • I got a voucher for $34.13925

    • We will offer to all people whose order was cancelled a continuous offer of $5 GC each month for these dates each month: 15/07, 15/08, 15/09, 15/10

So (under $5 w/ free shipping) freebies for 4mths? Apply sitewide or special list only?

  • I received email from DX just now.

One of my cancelled items was the http://dx.com/p/jr-5050-waterproof-72w-4500lm-300-5050-smd-l… which is now magically back in stock at the 'special price' of $10 dearer than before.

The thl-w8 was what I needed but thats obviously never going to happen

*edit its now showing the w8 as in stock, incredible, so even with my voucher and the special price its still $62 dearer than the promotion. Nothing to do with stock levels it seems!

    • +1

I don't believe it was a clearance sale, but a promotional one.

I think perhaps they were selling at or below cost price. What they should have done was for this promotion set the stock levels to how many they were willing to sell at this price, that way they couldn't over sell.

  • +1

I got a code for $47.80, i will wait for the rest of my paypal cash before using it.

  • +4

If stock is available now.. then why cant they honour the original discount of 50% rather than 15% off here and there? So the phone is now 22.5% off (7.5% + 15% off normal price).

So.. you get back 15% of what you paid for before - which was already 50% off (meaning you get back 7.5% of the original value).

    This is not even 25%!

    • +1

This way they won't be losing money from sales. They're too cunning!

I rather have either the phone or tablet shipped instead of this 15% gift card.

      • +1

They were never losing money. They would be making a commission on sales, logically the higher the selling price the more money they make. They underestimated the demand, realised they could make a crap load more money and are betting on Australians being fools. And they're probably correct because a heap of people will still think they're getting a deal, when in fact they're being played for suckers.

        • +1

I am using my $45 gift card on cheap gadgets and won't pay more. No way I will buy those full price phone or tablet.

        • -2

^ This man here knows what he is talking about

          jk.

        • The voucher doesn't have to be used for the same item. And I wouldn't be shocked if some people bought stuff just because they were cheap not because they wanted it. I almost bought one of the tablets and I don't even need one.

So go buy something that will chew up the voucher value and not pay a cent that way they'll lose money.

  • Well my 3 orders were around $675 so does that mean I'll get a code for approx 100?

    • +7

If they don't run "out of stock" for coupons :P

  • +1

Got the same email, still pretty disappointed, but not enough to boycot the company for free stuff.

Anyone interested in PMing me their discount codes I'd be happy to take them (even with the likely potential heartache of having my order(s) cancelled)

    :D

    • +1

Finished typing this to find that my reply to their email bounced. Classy.

    • +1

Damn, I wish I'd thought of that :)

I haven't had issues with DX before that haven't been quickly and painlessly sorted out. It's how a company treats its customers in the rough stuff that makes me decide to shop with them or not. DX I will be back again soon.

  • No email for me :(

    • -1

You're happy because you've got your order shipped. If not, I bet you cried the louder!

        • +1

not really but I'm willing 2 try anything at this point ;)

    • I'll sell you an iPad for $100!

Oh sorry, I don't have any iPads left.

Here's $15 to spend towards an iPad I have in stock, price is now $300.

      Thanks!

        • Don't get me wrong, I've already used my coupon to purchase one of the 8 items that I bought on the day for $2.30 delivered (if it arrives) which would actually be the best deal I've ever gotten through Ozbargain.

Still leaves a very bitter taste in my mouth to see my order cancelled and the very same items that they couldn't fulfill my order on sale for more than double the price, but giving me 15% off. Also sucks that I have to find a new present for my best man who is expecting a tablet… haha

        • -7

Just because you have paid for something on the internet means that you are guaranteed to get it, learnt that the hard way just like you did :)

I don't tell my mates/girlfriend that I've bought them anything til' it's in my hands. You never know what might go wrong :)

They had a specific number of items to sell, more than likely a loss, to bring people into the website (the same types of sales CatchOfTheDay do) and due to whatever reason the website/system has taken too many orders for many products. Those 'same' products they are selling would not have been contractually the same price as the promo ones or were not set aside for the promotion.

DX are already at a major loss for this event and I'm sure there are plenty of head-of-offices that are angry/getting their butts kicked.

          I live by two words and it has saved me much strife;

          "Shit happens"

but hey, apparently I work for DX and get negged for speaking the truth :)

        • +2

Please don't think I'm trying to have a fight here because I'm definitely not.

I totally see where you are coming from and actually applaud you standing up for them. If it was a genuine mistake then they really do need people in their corner.

I must just be too cynical to think that an entire huge promotion could have been a mistake, and that any company would have to cancel 100% of their orders.

If they weren't currently selling the exact same items in the orders that they 'couldn't' fulfill at full price I would be far more sympathetic.

I don't know if the comparison to the "catch a thons" at Catch of the Day is warranted, as they blatantly say (and I believe even make you tick that you've read) that there are very limited items, and if they run out of stock they don't take your money and tell you your order has been confirmed.

I wish I had enough faith in people to believe it was a genuine mistake and good on you for doing so!

I'll stop here, have a good night.

    • Did you have a $800 order in the system? :)

    • As I understand, Deal Extreme has had a bad reputation and was even banned on Ozbargain. This wasn't the first issue with them.

I am a business owner and I've made mistakes. However it would be unreasonable of me to expect my clients to NOT be angry if they thought I did business badly. Deal extreme can run their business any way it wants, but people can act accordingly to how badly they think of the company handles their business, especially if they already used up goodwill in the past.

      • I've never hard a foul word about them and last I checked a mod said they were banned because they were essentially posting deals no one liked. That's okay, the community here doesn't appreciate the products you want to offer us - you are no longer welcome. No big deal for them, they just lost ONE source of free advertisement.

Saying that they run business badly, that's another thing. A lot of the issues that I have seen from websites such as… ugh - Whirlpool - are issues with items not arriving/delayed shipping times, which are usually the fault of the shipping company. It's free, you get what you pay for!

Remember that the most vocal audience isn't always the majority, it's usually the (very) small minority :)

Read through the comments and look at all the 'SCAMS USING INTERNATIONAL CURRENCY RATES' or 'USING OUR MONEY TO MAKE LOANS' conspiracy theories there, people actually think this business wanted to hurt them but in reality it was a simple mistake.

You can easily sway the opinion of a business on this website with the click of a button, that's a lot of power to give an easily disgruntled user :)
