    Its a shame you won't post :(

  • +32

This is a good price for 10 metres, but really there's no reason to mention that stupid RRP.

    • This is its actual normal price though and not some inflated number, regardless of how ridiculous it is. Next cheapest in oz is $169.
If nothing else, its a fair indication it'll be built well.

      • +1

        What about this one

        • -3

Brouw3r that cable appears to have lower specs

        • +1

          Lower specs? In what respect..?

        • If anything the eBay listed cable is better spec'd as this is only v1.3 cable (max of 1080p/i).

        • +1

This is not a v1.3 cable but a HDMI high speed cable with ethernet(AKA v1.4) as it supports 3D, Ethernet and ARC which are not part of the v1.3 specs.
          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#Version_comparison

Effective January 1, 2012, all HDMI products cannot make any reference to HDMI version numbers.
          http://www.hdmi.org/learningcenter/trademark_logo_pub.aspx

        • it isn't digital? ;)

        • Why does it say "Supported Formats: Up To 1080i & 1080p" in the OP then? v1.3 is only 1080i/p.

        • If the OP has written High Speed + Ethernet then this hdmi cable should conform to that specification.

High Speed HDMI Cable – 1080p, 4K, 3D, deep color, ethernet and at speeds of up to 10.2Gbps

        • Out of topic, how did shoppingsquare get top seller rating on Ebay for its poor customer services and slow shipping?

        • Umm, I'll take a stab.
Is it because they're a high volume revenue stream for eBay?

      • +3

How well built is this one you're selling? $11 500 is a bit steep.

Must have quite a few ounces of gold in it…:-)

        • +13

For that money I would much rather have a DIAMOND cable just read the reviews! (seriously, read them)

        • +2

The reviews/comments for the diamond cable are pretty funny.

        • +3

Haha, seriously, do read them, they are hilarious.

But no deal, neither of these HDMI cables have built in AntiVirus Protection
          http://www.zdnet.com/this-xbox-hdmi-cable-has-anti-virus-pro…

        • +5

Those reviews for the diamond cable are hilarious.

Interesting to note that there are speaker cables of the same brand going for $14,049.75 - which is a real pity 'cos i have a strict $14k budget set for speaker cables. (Some very amusing reviews for these too).

        • DO NOT read these comments if like me you got hit in the rib with a cricket ball and have bruised ribs. Laughing really hurt :(

        • I actually read them all. Some of the funniest stuff I've read on the Internet

"The audio that comes through this cable is clearer than angel phlegm."

        • "Guaranteed to cook you breakfast, make your bed, get you dressed, drive you to work, work a full day FOR YOU, and get you laid. " Sounds like an Ideal mate

        • +1

Yeah seen it a while ago. I almost fell off my chair when when I saw the price.

        • surely you feel embarrass to plug that thing into a laptop that cost less than $1000….

        • From monster or HN affiliated company manufacturer?

    • He's taking a massive loss. I wonder what the invoice price was when he bought them from his supplier…

  • Wow!

  • lolrrp.

  • +4

I'm conflicted. The RRP is insane. But the discounted price is good. I'd expect to pay $15-$20 for that sort of thing. So $5 good. $179 freakin' ludicrous. Mind explode.

  • +1

Even $179 would be a bargain, when they have 10m HDMI FOR $599?!?

  • -6

Pay for an hdmi cable that has been selling honestly for $4.99, not some bullshit RRP.

    • Refer to my post above.

      • +1

You're not getting my point. You're framing it as a $174 saving!!! Which is bullshit from the start. All hdmi cables are the same as the signal is digital.

        http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=10m+hdmi&sp…
May not be as cheap but its honest.

        • -4

Your point is invalid. This is cheaper than all those generic Chinese round cables with flimsy connections that don't fit quite right.

        • +13

Smokescreens. Never had a 'flimsy connection' with a generic chinese hdmi cable. Typical industry saving chatter.

        • -1

          No industry, just my experience.

        • +8

          You need more experience then.

Nothing wrong with the 'cheaper' cables and their connectors. Sure, going for the absolute dirt cheap ones is asking for trouble, but there is absolutely no way they can justify the RRP to begin with which is what you're trying to claim the price is obviously an indication of the quality, therefore it has to be better then cheaper cables. That is simply untrue.

Also, who on earth even touches their HDMI cables all the time? Only time I've ever had to connect/disconnect mine when I've moved or gotten new equipment.

        • I'm not sure if you disagree with me or not…?

        • If its anything, I AM industry, electronic technician, was an early digital VJ, did staging, lighting etc etc etc, studying mechatronic engineering atm and I know the value of decet cables and connectors. You need good quality - connectors made with pure plastics to fairly fine tolerances, decent purity copper and the right amount of it (a common place skimped), well made and well integrated boots - or longevity suffers badly.
Thankfully for cheapies digital TV is designed to cover up a LOT of transmission error so you tend to only get small degradations, approximations, until it gets REALLY and you lose the lot lol

        • mycosys what are you doing here? who let you out of whirlpool!

    • +9

I believe you need to re-read the terms of when it is appropriate to Neg a deal and when it isnt http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:voting_guidelines
This clearly does not fit into any of the approved situations, and the seller has clearly shown the RRP from an independant source. I dont like them overpricing any more than i like moster cables doing so, but it sure as heck isnt the sellers fault, and the deal is definitely a great deal.

      • -6

Then I negged it because the post is advertising. The only thing that's missing is the "That's 97% off!" No other deal has RRP given in the title. And yes, it doesnt help that this is a hdmi cable, a traditional snake oil product.

        • +2

          Mr Grumpy.

        • Still cheaper than anything you linked to…

Possibly the silliest post/reason I've read here for some time.

        • +1

Then I negged it because the post is advertising.

every rep's post is "advertising" facepalm some people really….

        • +3

every rep's post is "advertising" facepalm some people really…

"Enjoy Coke" is advertising; "Enjoy Half-Price Coke" is a bargain, because of the discount. Pres. Clinton's arguing that this is just generic cola at generic cola prices; and therefore just an ad, not a bargain.

I'd be curious what makes this cable so great that it's worth the massive premium over normal cables - the only testable features on the "tech specs" page are weight and length. There's no measures of signal degradation/interference resistance/fancy materials that would mark this out as worth a premium. It doesn't even say what version of HDMI it is. Shouldn't it be made out of Unobtanium or be hand-rolled by Tarvu priestmunties or something, to command that high RRP?

  • That's an awesome price, I did a google search and first result that came up was for $169.40

  • May I ask is this a v1.4 hdmi cable? and how the "With Ethernet" function use?

    • IIRC there's HDMI v1.4 and HDMI v1.4 with ethernet.

  • +2

My prediction: Website crash & 80 neg votes

  • DAMN i wish i lived nearby. Definitely not available to a cripple in Cessnock lol.
Amazing deal tho OP - kudos, pity you wont post - any chance of an exception for a cripple? lol

  • +4

rrp $179? seriously? quoting the rrp as a price comparison might be construed as misleading if you never sold them for that price http://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/prices-receipts/price-displ…

"Businesses may also mislead consumers about prices if they: … advertise or promote ‘savings’ or ‘discounts’ in comparison to the recommended retail price (RRP) but the goods had never been previously sold at RRP, or the RRP does not reflect a current market price"

    • "quoting the rrp as a price comparison might be construed as misleading if you never sold them for that price" The link says $179 so I'm not sure who's misleading you, yes it is expensive, but there will be people that will pay that…
If it makes you feel better pay the full retail price :)

    • Yeah that was my point, you just said it more eloquently. My neg was taken out because a mod clearly thinks theres nothing wrong with this- without explaining it to me.

      • +1

Are you sure it was by a mod? If the first post of someone who negged receives enough negative votes, it gets cancelled out. I think it's a stupid rule to begin with - it forces people into a narrower way of thinking.

  • I get this error: Coupon code "hdmibargain" is not valid

  • +1

so cheap. I remember paying about $120 for a 10m hdmi cable in 2005.

  • That RRP really makes my headspin. Location is close to me but I wonder if I should add to my collection of unused hdmi cables.

  • You guys need to realise this is a 10m cable, and not your average 1m ebay special.

HDMI cables tend to get exponentially more expensive the longer they get because need to be built to a higher quality to be able to transit the data over the longer distances.

$5 is virtually giving the cable away for free - wish they would post it!

  • what's postage to melbourne cbd?

    • deal says no postage, hence all the 'wish you were posting' comments

      • Seems appropriate.

        • lmao (well, actually a good chuckle under my breath, but definitely a chuckle :D)

  • -2

This is a good price regardless of the RRP but how many people really need a 10m HDMI cable?

    • +2

Quite a lot really. People who run projectors would be the biggest group, then likely next would be people who use HTPCs who like to keep them hidden, or those with multi head (lounge and bedroom or kitchen) HTPCs, people running a lecture room type setup where the source is in the lecturn and the screen behind them, clubs etc etc etc

      • -1

I'm aware of why people need them. My comment was "how many" people need them.

  • Not willing to post? Well that's a shame.

  • At least its not the overpriced $299 4m Monster HDMI cable from Harvey Norman.
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/monster-m-hdmi-cable-5381.htm…

  • Expired I believe as it won't work:

"Coupon code "hdmibargain" is not valid."

EDIT: My bad, missed one of the replies above saying it's not valid yet:
"The code will activate on 3pm on Tuesday the 14th of May "

(in all fairness though you wouldn't see it in the description if you went straight to the deal without reading all the text)

    • That's why you should read the text…

  • +1

OP please write PICK UP ONLY in title

  • If the code is not recognised at the moment, how do we use it?

    • Not a valid negative? http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:voting_guidelines

Don't hate on the deal just because you live in Perth and this is a Sydney based deal.

    • You realise not every company in Australia posts right?

      • +2

        This company posts

        • Still not a valid neg

        • -4

It is a valid neg if you have an issue with the retailer. I think the retailer is trying to promote his business and by just localising the deal.
As I said other products they sell they are happy to ship.

        • Umm… Serious?

        • +7

I think the retailer is trying to promote his business

Yes… it's shocking…. all other retailers post here because they love us….

I hate to break it to you. This is a bargain website. We are here to discuss bargains. Sure businesses are allowed to come here and promote their business through offering genuine bargains. But this guy pulls the shipping option of his bargain then I feel that this should be negged. Dont 1/2 quote people and take something out of context. Sarcasm is also not needed…

        • This is a bargain website.

          I know… I've been here a while….
