  • if it is pickup only, why is there a code?

  • -3

Must be finished already as code not working…

    • Not sure if member read the description?

  • +2

Title needs to be updated saying Sydney pickup only.

  • -3

Oh. Expired. Code not working anymore.

    • +1

reading is perhaps not your strong point?

  • -1

Put in ABN and Sydney pickup only in title!!

What exactly is the difference from this cable and a standard v1.4 HDMI cable OP? v1.4 includes Ethernet because it is the standard of that version.

According to the website listed in the OP it lists the following "Supported Formats: Up To 1080i & 1080p" meaning it is only v1.3 as v1.4 goes up to 4K and does not support Ethernet nor 3D.

From my research into it apart from being flat it is no different to cable I bought from eBay for $5, this is not a deal.

    • +1

if you're going to neg my post, perhaps you should learn the difference between HDMI versions before doing so..

  • Not being willing to post/courier a washing machine deal, that I get. But a deal to pay online (hey, buy something else at our website whilst you are here plus we'll collect your details) coupled with a required store visit (hey, buy something at our shop whilst you are here) for such a reasonably sized item? Puh-lease. It's a ploy that deters me from the get go. Leave Click & Collect as a backup for distribution system issues (i.e. Dick Smith warehouse out of stock) or for those customers who want to save on postage costs, not as a marketing tactic to double dip on a customer.

  • -2

"Coupon code "hdmibargain" is not valid."

    Must've sold more than 50.

    :(

    • +2

read the post properly this time

      • +1

Thanks. I think it should be made clearer.

  • -2

People sicken me sometimes. The OP posted in this way to maximise exposure for this deal. HE ONLY HAS 50 CABLES SO HE CHOSE TO MAKE IT 50 PICKUP TO MAXIMISE BENEFIT TO THE COMPANY.

    OH BTW IT STARTS TOMORROW.

    • Does someone who sells something for $11 500 thats worth no more than $50 sicken you too? It does to me. I want to support NO company big or small that tries to take anyone for a ride and especially one that does it so openly.

      • -1

That's actually a good price for the product :)
May not be good value IMO but that's me.

      • If you had $11 500 you'd buy it though wouldn't you? Be honest now

        • No I blow most of my money on bikes :P
If I had more money I'd have more bikes :)

        • Well the fact that they try automatically puts them in the snake-oil column. This stuff needs to stop and I will inform as many people about what they try and sell. How would you feel about a petrol station putting their prices up to $20/Litre? An eskimo that just flew into town and got his license who happens to drive by his first petrol station might pay that price. Sure nobody else would buy it, but it just insults our collective intelligence and decency.

Taking advantage of peoples stupidity is OK.
Taking advantage of their ignorance is NOT.

        • +1

An analogous argument is 'this comment has an RRP of $179, because as the originator (~retailer) I say it does'. It doesn't matter what it cost, what my margin is or how effectively it works - it is the RRP if I (or the manufacturer) decide it is the RRP. Value is irrelevant to the RRP argument, but 'value for money' is the effective measure for a 'bargain'.

As for my opinion, I don't care what the RRP is. I've never paid more than $10 for an HDMI cable of any length, and each and every one of the ~20 up to and including the $9.80 15m cable I have from dealextreme works just fine (as you would expect). There is no performance-related reason to ever buy a HDMI cable that is not the cheapest one available

        • -1

Yes but RRP is usually used as a gauge to support the golden retail rule that "You get what you pay for". Most people shop using this rule- but they are ignorant to the fact that it really doesn't apply to HDMI cables. This rule is then used by retailers to take advantage of people who are not necessarily stupid, but ignorant to that fact. That's what bugs me the most, and it shouldn't be happening.

        • People who have too much money and don't know where to spend it would, but i doubt anybody on ozbargain would….. thats the whole point why they are here looking for bargains.

Rich people don't care about the product, they just care about bragging rights….. Look at the people who bought Vertu Phones… crappy hardware…. just sold to rich people because of style. lol.

According to the specs this 10m HDMI cable uses 28AWG wires. The high electrical resistance of these long thin wires may mean an unreliable signal transmission.

The cutoff points for High Speed HDMI Cables (minimum 10.2 Gb/s) of each AWG rating are:

    • 28 AWG = maximum 10 feet
    • 26 AWG = maximum 12 feet
    • 24 AWG = maximum 15 feet
    • 22 AWG = maximum 25 feet

Beyond the cutoff points, the cables are rated as Standard HDMI Cables (minimum 2.25 Gb/s). Using 28 AWG conductors, a cable of about 5 meters (about 16 feet) can be manufactured easily and inexpensively for SD/HD TV application.

    • +1

I'm glad somebody understands what makes a cable good. Plain and simple it's just electrical resistance, either the wires have to be thicker, the cable shorter or the material more conductive.

Stop bothering yourself with contacts they don't matter that much, especially when the cable is ALWAYS made of copper.

Stop bothering yourself with fancy braided fibre shielding, etc, it just stops the cable from earthing plain old plastic will do the job as long as it doesn't get cut or become brittle.

Of course a <$5 cable will be dodgy, the chinese aren't dumb they figure they can leave out half the connections inside the cable, at 32 awg and just shield the hell out of it with cheap plastic so it feels sturdy, you're not going to know unless you cut it open and have a look. so just get a cheap brand name one from a retailer you trust that isn't any longer than required.

      • The shielding isn't quite that irrelevant. If a WiFi signal needs to cross the path of cabling between the router and client the interference from poorly shielded cable can/will degrade the signal quality and/or network speed.

On the edge of the FTA tv signal coverage area a badly shielded cable can also disrupt the digital FTA broadcast signal. With how my place was built and cabled I've got to switch off any HDMI-connected devices everytime I want to watch FTA :(

Fwiw, wifi can even be blocked or degraded by the emissions (for want of a better word) given off by cheap TVs

  • Wow, some of you guys really need to find better stuff to do on a Saturday night…seriously! :o

You should've come along Clinton, you might have embarrassed yourself a little less… :p

        • Anything is better than a night out in that town. You said it!

… we have reduced Revtek 10 metre ….
No you have not. You WILL reduce in 3 days. Its a clever way of fishing for clicks to your site for free.

  • Might not be relevant with this length cable but flat hdmi's are nearly impossible to crimp if running to a wall plate or thru a tight space.

  • I picked up a HDMI 1.4 cable 10 metre from a local components supplier a year and a half ago for $30. can't imagine they have gone up in price since then. those rrps are rediculous.

  • Its bit strange that irrespective of couple of requests for updating the title to show " Deal available only for pickup in sydney" the rep has not taken any action. Rep has almost disappeared after putting the deal and have left to us for discussions !!

MOD's can you please update the title.

    • the rep has not taken any action

      Hasn't been on since yesterday….

MOD's can you please update the title.

The mods do not read every post…. you need to use the report button

      • Thanks for the information !!

Just saw that the rep has been offline since yesterday. Good to see that the title has been updated…not sure who did that ;-)

        • somebody must have reported it…. ;-)

incredible deal…i just missed this and ended up buying 25 of these (as a fence for my house in case you're wondering) at $150 a piece and thought i was getting a great deal!

    • Another genius who doesn't know how to vote, please read the guidelines on voting http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:voting_guidelines

      • Another wanna be Mod who is ignoring the 3rd reason why people can post a neg on a deal.
Read what you link before telling others to read it!!

        • I have read it, perhaps you should take your own advice.

"Another wanna be Mod" It's called being part of the OzBargain community.

        • Enlighten us sparky, how was that a valid neg?

        • Get someone to read and explain the 3rd point to you sparky.
I already said this though. If you still dont understand then you win. You are beating me with experience!!

3PM 14/5/2013 has come and gone, but coupon is still invalid. FAIL.

Edit: Coupon came alive 3:05PM. My neg vote stands because there are only 50 units available (race condition) and the Rep failed to keep to the deadline.

I placed an order for one of these, but not sure how inferior they are to the ones that were posted first. These ones don't have ethernet, whatever that means.

      • The replacement is an inferior cable. It does not match the specs of the original cable. No Ethernet and AWG rating. High Speed HDMI cables should all conform to the 4Kx2K standard resolution. These are only rated 1080i/p

  • I got one of each, one for me and one for my bro, but i wasnt allowed to take the purple / audio dimension as its only one total hdmi cable per person. So I am awaiting a refund to my credit card now. Strange they still have a lot of the inferior / purple cable left.

I picked up my cable from Digital Cinema today.

    Very pleased with it.

I would also say the staff were very friendly and not pushy at all - there was no attempted cross-sell/up-sell like you can get with some other Ozbargains.

I even had a problem with my payment but the lovely pregnant lady sorted that out for me on the spot.

All in all very happy. Thank you.
