  • does that mean two adults in a cabin for $120 or $120 each…

      per person

And it is cheaper for quad share - $87 each.

    • My quote for 2 adults return came up at $580 each. Or, did I do something wrong?

      • Sounds like you chose deluxe or porthole cabin? Price listed above seems to be for inside cabin only.

      • +2

price is for ocean recliner seats only, and available on most of the day (not queen's birthday)
        $54/per person/per trip

    • +1

      In future when you see:

Twin share = each person (in a couple) pays specified 'x' of $
Quad share = each person (in a group of 4ppl) pays specified 'x' of $

      :D

The words 'twin share' or 'quad share' mean 'you are about to get screwed'. The travel industry have been using this terminology to mislead customers since Joseph was charged double what he was quoted for the stable.

And they still shafted him on the fold out cot.

        • +3

Wonder what they charged for a cleaning fee, and if they charged extra for the numerous visitors they had?

      Woooooo! Or maybe, hic!

  • Not happy that we cannot book 2 adults 1 child and 1 infant for these ocean recliners… Forced to take cabins just because of the infant

    Thanks for posting anyways!
I wonder if cabin fares will ever have specials…

If you are on night crossings and you take recliners on the way over, you may wish to take a cabin on the way back.
my missus rekons the recliners are total crap, false economy, uncomfy, etc etc, she and her girlfriend then booked a cabin for the return to melb.

      • Went over on a recliner last October, people either side of me so I was thinking I wont sleep well but woke up next morning all good.
Coming back in November with few people in recliners I slept on & off, should of laid on floor like some people did.

        • When compared to aircraft seats, what would it be? Business?

        • +1

worse that the China Southern Economy seat I had to Guangzhou last year…

Think more along the lines of a seat at the movies. That's what it feel like, all in long rows at the rear of the boat. The front row of the recliners get ocean view out the back big windows although the "view" is pretty limited at night. Plus, it's water, just a big expanse of water. I'm one of those who would be sleeping on the floor if I couldn't spring the extra for the cabin. Some of the cabins are sparce with bunks hanging off the wall, and some are quite nice indeed with double beds. You get what you pay for here.

I've only done one night crossing and used a cabin. The people who used recliners on my trip looked like hell in the morning whereas we were well-rested for the long day ahead (boat arrives about 6:30am so if you have not slept well it's a long time until you go to bed the next night). I'd recommend the cabin based on that one experience. YMMV.

    • I wonder if cabin fares will ever have specials…

That IS a special. When I was looking at going a few weeks ago the fare was $169

I've traveled with these ships about 10 times, before 2002 when they were called SUPERFAST III and IV, doing the route Patra(Greece)-Ancona(Italy). Back then, they were two of the most beautiful ferries, great experience.
I suppose they have modified the interiors since then, cause i remember the recliners were not that comfortable(for sleeping).

I've done the trip multiple times, including a few stints in the so called 'ocean view recliners'. The recliners aren't particularly comfortable and the recliner rooms become rather cold at night. My advice is that if you'd like a good nighs sleep, book a cabin. If you're going to attempt sleeping on a recliner then bring a warm blanket or sleeping bag and a book or laptop to keep yourself entertained. It's only one night so not a big deal - but sometimes a good nights rest is worth the extra cash.

The cabins are clean and comfortable.

I think I'll be able to put this deal to good use. Thanks OP.

The recliners are TERRIBLE. Unless you are the sort that can sleep through a teething baby screaming in your ear and another jumping on your stomach, don't expect to get off feeling refreshed.

    Good price tho.

and don't forget, you still need to add the cost of your car to that… you're better off flying if you're not taking one.

  • +1

Mmmm thanks for sharing your experiences!! It was invaluable! We would've flew but we need to bring the family car so I guess it will have to be cabins for us then! From what you all shared I am rethinking the idea of these recliners!

I've went over in a cabin and returned on a recliner. Got the cabin from Melbourne to Devonport as I had just driven for two days from Brisbane and needed a good nights sleep to prepare myself for the final 5 hour drive once in Tassie. It was really good and the ability to jump in your own shower before hopping back in the car nearly makes the higher cost worthwhile alone. It was noisy at first with kids running up and down the corridor but that stopped after an hour or two.

The recliners are similar to that of a large business class seat so they're nice & wide and do rake back quite a long way but it was still uncomfortable and it did get cold as per the reports above however it was peak season at the end of a holiday so I wanted to save as much cash as I could. On the way back I did manage to get a few hours sleep on & off as per sleeping on a plane so I woke up an jumped in the car feeling less than prepared for the big day of driving ahead… however it really wasn't as bad as I thought and a well deserved breakfast & coffee stop on the outskirts of Melbourne got me back in shape pretty quickly. Slept like a baby once I got back to Brisbane tho :P

So yeah, for this price the recliners definitely aren't terrible but the cabins are the way to go if you need the sleep and/or need to be 100% on-the-ball when you get off the Ferry.

Funny no one mentioned snoring in the recliner room.
