On July 10, 2019, Nintendo announced a handheld-focused version of the Nintendo Switch called the Nintendo Switch Lite. The system uses a smaller 5.5 inch screen and has control inputs integrated into the system, with a directional pad replacing the directional buttons typically found on the left Joy-Con. This version of the hardware removes HD Rumble, and IR camera functionality and cannot be played in TV Mode. The system will launch in three colors; yellow, grey and turquoise, worldwide on September 20, 2019. A Zacia and Zamazenta edition will be released on November 8, 2019 to coincide with the release of Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. Existing Switch accessories can be used with the Lite, and the Lite has built-in gyro controls in addition to support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC. However, a notable drawback of the new design is the absence of HD rumble and IR sensors, which results in some compatibility issues. Games that require motion controls like 1-2 Switch can only be played if an additional pair of Joy-Con are purchased. Other games will be incompatible with the Switch Lite, and users who attempt to purchase them from the eShop will receive a warning.
