Everyone too busy buying to comment… Nice find!

I love my switch lite. Owning the original switch as well i though i'd get the lite and use it for a bit then sell it off. But this thing is so small and sturdy. Feels super comfortable and lite compared to my other one. Definitely keeping it, my original one is now staying docked to the tv! Good price too with this deal!

    • What do you do about accounts and saves?

      • +3

It seems to work reasonably easy for me. With the online service it automatically uploads the latest save when you're done with a game. The only thing you need to do is if you want to play on the other console you need to download the latest save from the server for the game you want to play. It sounds like a pain but it's a 5 second job to be honest. As for playing away from home i haven't done that yet so not too sure about the "home console" thing you need to do. Even that doesn't sound too bad. You just have your lite as the home console as that's the one that doesn't need internet checks to see if you can play games.

        • Not too bad, was hoping it will also auto download the latest cloud save to the other console, as long as you close the game.

          • +1

@landroverz7: Hopefully they fix that up in the future. For me it hasn't been a hassle as of yet so i'm happy having both consoles.

    • Agreed. Having a lighter version with a d-pad is great for stuff like Octopath Traveller and the Castlevania Collection.
Still worth keeping the old model for TV play and Mario Kart handheld co-op.

  • The price with postage is only about ~ $10 off the Amazon price taking into account the usual cashback rates at present. Will we see a better deal in the Amazon black friday sales I do wonder.

    • +6

Don’t know. Last years Amazon Black Friday sales were disappointing

      • +7

They were flat out terrible last year in terms of hardware

  • Just bought one, great find.

  • Anyone had any experience with TGG's refund/exchange policy? I just googled some reviews and stuff on this Nintendo switch and it seems there may be QA issues with the 'joycons'? I don't play games (so I don't know what joycons are) and this would be a gift but how important are the joycons? And should I be weary of "joycon drift" and the d-pad being defective on some units? No clue here but seems like a reasonable price.

Joycons are the controllers used on the regular Switch. There are no joycons on Lite, but you could still potentially experience Joycon drift long term because it uses the same analogue sticks. The drifting is a wear and tear issue over the long term, so you won't see it day 1 unless there's a manufacturing defect outright.

If you get it long term it's not beyond repair with some contact cleaner but you'd need to be willing to open it up.

      • +3

While yes, it’s possible the drift might occur, there have been several articles I’ve seen refuting that the sticks are the same (that they are actually slightly different). Initial reports said they were the same but it seems that’s not correct at least from what I’ve read.

On a side note, I’ve never had the issue on my regular Switch.

        • +2

I have both consoles and for me the sticks definitely feel different. They have a little more tension. There’s still a chance of the drift but I honestly think it’s a pretty rare thing.

        • Nice to hear. I've never had issues with my launch-day switch either.

    • +3

I had a Gopro with screen bleeding, TGG refused to change it. I had to contact GoPro and they send me an email stating that it was an issue with my camera. took it TGG and they exchange it. it was within the first month of purchase.

not sure if I was unlucky or it is the way the do warranty.

    • +2

Some other posters explained this already but I thought I'd reiterate with different language.

The "joycons" issue here is actually the joysticks, that maybe less confusing.

The issue is that the joysticks, at some stage in time (could be years), may develop a "drift", which means that without touching them at all, they will register movement (say your character auto moves forward).

I can't comment on the rest but hopefully that clears that part up for you :)

    No longer available?

  • Reckon wait for a Nintendo Switch Console Deal or jump on this one?

    • +1

I'm waiting for a decent resolution to the drift issue.

      • +5

It seems to only affect a minority of users.

I work in an office full of Switch gamers, and have nieces and nephews with Switches too, and none of us has experienced it.

And my nieces and nephews should have experienced it if it was common. Their Switches look like they’ve been in a war zone.

Yet, if you consult the internet, it seems like plague of epic proportions affecting every Switch and Switch Lite.

I think it’s being overblown somewhat, and if you’re unlucky enough to be affected, you can just get it fixed under warranty.

        • They’ve sold 30m consoles. Even if the drift problem is occurring 1/10th of a percent, which is less than an expected electronic failure rate. that’s still 30,000 consoles with an issue. So make sense you’d have a large amount of people griping online.

          • @ONEMariachi: That’s kind of the point. It may be a legitimate issue for a minority of users, but any individual Switch is unlikely to be affected, and it’s not really a reason to hold off buying one.

    • No video out on this one is a killer, even though I prefer the look, size and build quality of the Lite.

  • Relisted again :)

  • The Zacian edition coming in November looks pretty amazing.

    • +1

Agreed, but can't justify paying RRP for it…

      • Not having white controls is actually a plus too - even if you play with clean hands :)

      • +1

$199 at EB if you trade New 3DS XL and two games.

I checked with staff at EB Games and there was no exclusion list so you can pick up some super cheap/crappy games from their current DS sale and trade them in with the cheap New 3DS XL we all bought from Amazon last year.

        • Is there a similar deal for the New 3DS and regular switch? Hard to find a discount for the new switch model at the moment and I barely play my 3DS.

          • @get-innocuous: I wish there was but have not seen anything yet, maybe Black Friday Sale will get us something easier to swallow the upgrade cost?

  • -1

    Is lite hacked already?

    • If you’re into homebrew development, the full-sized Switch is a better option because you can connect it to a monitor.

I can’t think of any other reason anyone would want to hack it.

      • Some people seem to want to use the web browser that is hidden on it

    • -1

      username checks out

No, only older models of the original switch are exploitable.

As for why to hack it, it's a great emulation device to play your legally owned, games which you have dumped but still have the physical media for :)

      • -1

        Ah that's a shame.

The new reinx/atmosphere don't work on the lite? Has been a while already - I wonder how much longer it will be

      • I’m not sure format shifting for games is actually legal in Australia.

        • It's not. Just hive mind misinformation widely spread across the internet so people hear it and regurgitate it as fact

          • @Faro: Then provide a citation? Otherwise your statement is just as (in)valid as mine.

            • @idonotknowwhy: "Now we need to consider the laws around copyright in computer programs, a form of 'literary work' protected by the Australian Copyright Act 1968 (Act). In simple terms, 'copyright' is the 'right' to 'copy'. For the most part, that means a person (or in this case company) that owns copyright in a literary work, has the right to choose how and to whom a copy of that work is made available. "If you use the cartridge to create a ROM image, you are making a copy of the game. That's not permitted under the Act, because copyright is the exclusive right to do acts comprised in the copyright in the work."

              https://www.kotaku.com.au/2019/03/are-roms-legal-in-australi…

    • Yeah, I'd love to get one to put lots of emulators on and never actually play it.

  • +1

Maybe the issue has been fixed, but last time I checked, the Nintendo thumbsticks are suffering from highly common drift issues. If this is still the case I wouldn't be recommending the Lite model as the Joycons on this aren't detachable and probably aren't easily repairable without opening up your console.
