Also same price at Amazon AU:

Personally I would just wait for the Switch 2 which has already been revealed.

    Hold

    • +7

I predict these will keep their price longer than you'd expect a last gen console to hold. Switch 2 won't be OLED and games will be mostly backwards compatible with switch 1. Just a prediction though

      • +16

Point is $469 is not that great, just a regular sale price. If it's $350, I won't stop people who is buying as their first switch ever.

        • 350 with the game and the sub is an excellent price

          • +2

@belongsinforums: That would probably be the clearance price after 2 is released. I am building my OLED switch lite soon. From https://retroremake.co/pages/super5

            • @ce5himm: Cool - would be a fun easy project. I’ve got a switch OLED but tempted to do with one of the Lite models at home.

          • +6

@belongsinforums: It's excellent compared to the terrible prices elsewhere, but let's face it:

Even with the better screen, this is a 2017 console with a 2016 mobile phone processor bundled with a 2014 game.

Don't get me wrong, I am a Switch owner and Nintendo fan since the SNES.

But the fact 460 bucks is a bargain for a Nintendo Switch OLED in 2025, not $260 or even $360, is insane.

      • +2

But Switch 2 will run Switch 1 games, the Switch 2 screen will be even bigger, and for all we know it'll have micro LED for decent HDR. The rumoured very high price of the Switch 2 would allow for micro LED.

        • +4

Part of the benefit for us in Australia is I think those are rumoured US prices with current and possible future tarriffs factored in. I doubt we will have these extra costs added in.

          • +1

@Pcoder: We might, because the tariffs will be placed upon international markets that don’t matter as much as the US market.

wish we'd see some deep discounts on the switch lite like we used to; left mine on a plane :(

    • Sorry for your loss.

  • +1

The next-gen Switch is coming, so the prices of the old ones will drop even more soon.

    • Next gen is not even OLED version except a bigger screen, feels like backwards now. Guess OLED will hold its price for long.

      • +2

Nintendo hasn't confirmed the display type yet. How do you know it won't be OLED?

      • Mini or micro LED will be capable of better peak brightness in HDR than a single layer OLED.

  • +5

    Put the $469 towards a Switch 2.

  • +12

I didn't realise these were worth so much, I found mine on a plane a while ago and just kept it because I thought they were cheap.

    • +12

      @get-innocuous found your switch lol

    • Not really yours then is it? LOL

    • +1

i validate your story that your action doesn’t constitute stealing

  • +1

I wouldn't be spending over $300 on a Switch tbh….the membership is worth $30, the game about $70 (although many would argue you are better getting a cartridge version instead of digital), so under $400 for this bundle is what I'd look for (if you can't wait for Switch 2)

  • +1

Thanks to weak AUD, safe to say Switch 2 will double the price, $699

    • +1

      $799

      • +1

        $899

        • +2

Five hundred and ninety nine US dollars

    • +2

$US449 and $US499 with Mario Kart 9. That's $714AU and $793AU. So with GST and Australia tax we're looking at $800AU and $850AU with Mario Kart.

They'll fly off the shelves regardless of price. Playstation doesn't have a true mobile console and until Microsoft bring their handheld Xbox to the table - which seems is still a few years off assuming it does materialise - this is a mobile gaming device from one of the biggest brands in gaming.

Steam is still a bit fringe to much of the consumer market - despite being a great device - and the other handhelds are yet to prove they are stayers.

NS2 will have better third party support thank prior offering, so I think it will be a winner.

        Take my money! ;)

        • Yeah agreed. I literally only have a console for fc (fifa) so if I can get Nintendo and play that’s insane. No matter what day 1 purchase

  • I got my Switch very cheap ($332) not long after the initial release. I've gone through periods of heavy use vs not touching it for months on end. That said I've been tempted for years to buy a second so that the original could be my (take anywhere and who cares if it got scratched or marked) and the other my at home, treat it like the Indiana Jones holy grail :P unit. But I've never pulled the trigger despite the want. I still retain the original joycons that have no drift (I know what stick drift is thanks to experiencing it on Xbox and PS controllers in recent years) but their LED lights no longer light up and (unsure if related) but if I wanted to use them as separate controllers…. they can't be recognised and even when off the "switch" screen itself are still "one" controller.

I'll likely get my "second" Switch when the Switch 2 is released, not fussed if it's $800+, I want it! :P

    • +1

but their LED lights no longer light up

weirdly I have the same issue on my OG switch joycons too - I think it is issue with the rail connector, no lights and the L and R buttons don't work. Cannot use it in joycon mode as a controller by itself. I've thought about opening it up to check but I feel like the effort is more than what its worth and I never play in joycon mode anyway.

      • +1

My OG joy cons have this also. It’s due to the sync ribbon being flexed/broken. Joy cons can still work hand held mode but not disconnected. Only discovered because wanted to play Mario kart with nieces lol

Fix was replacing cable 1 hour time plus $10 part from Amazon

Mcbazel Replacement SL SR Left Right Sync Button Ribbon Flex Cable

I’ve replaced cable once and it has worked for 3 years now. Still on original battery and 1000s of hours

As others have mentioned, better to put that money towards the Switch 2 so it can run existing and future games properly e.g. even Pokemon has a number of performance issues on the Switch

  • +1

I would rather buy switch 2 coming out later this year at full price than get this “deal”. You would have it for the full generation and won’t have to lose money upgrading from this. Only con is waiting but if you don’t have one now might as well wait a few months
