      why Ugh?

map search avalon, then add the time and cost of getting back to melb.

      life is so tough

  • It's a bit of a pain to get to avalon. They need to have an airport to serve the SE suburbs of Melbourne & Mornington Peninsula.

Would rather pay the regular price from Melbourne Airport. Great for those who live close by Avalon though.

Good if going to Geelong/ Great Ocean Road…

  • +1

    Great for the Geelong-ites.

  • great eitherway! 9$!!

Avalon airport should really be called Geelong airport

Guys, if you are on a cheap budget you catch a Skybus etc. direct coach to the Melbourne CBD in 30mins for $30 return. The coaches are timed with Jetstar flights.

Alternatively, its about a 1k walk to the V-line station, which will get you to the city for a few dollars(commuter service). Or, ~$10 for a cab to the station.

There a a few different shuttle buses operating out of Avalon. Search online for Avalon transport. Such as Sita Bus which do Avalon - Southern Cross for $42 return.

    • It seems like the Victorian government just didn't think the transport options through that well. To make it a more viable domestic airport for travellers it needs to have cheap, simple ways to get to Melbourne CBD. Some of those options are cheap, some of them are easy, but not both. It just becomes a pain the ass.

Source: travelled from Sydney to Melbourne many times; I avoid Avalon whenever I can.

      • They have 901 public transport straight to the airport terminal

        • +1

Wrong. 901 goes from Frankston to Tullamarine airport:
          http://ptv.vic.gov.au/maps-stations-stops/metropolitan-buses…

This deal is for Avalon airport, near Geelong.

        • Haha this is the bus I take from my nans to the airport

        • +3

I just had a look at the 901 timetable. Takes just over 4 hours to get from Frankston to Melbourne Airport. lol.

then again avalon is great for us country people..

simple carpark and no need to go into the "big city"

        :)

      • I would guess that the most important issue for Avalon Airport (Geelong)is fast, cheap, civilised transport to Melbourne.
Online, though, there are claims it only take 30mins to get to Avalon from the Melbourne CBD during peak hour which is pretty darn good.

the ground transport is more expensive than the air one….it is a joke

      • the train from Lara to CBD is $7 from memory, so no the airfare is still more expensive :)

    • its a good 8k walk.

  • Why do i only see $35 fares between the dates that they provided i can't see $9 anywhere… even when i click sort by lowest fare

  • +1

Nope. Click find flights after that and there are none to be found. I reckon it's a bug. They were/are supposed to be available until 8pm tonight. Update:Confirmed that they are all "sold out". I suspect in addition to the time requirements there was also a limited number (perhaps indicated by the 150 below the fare).

  • I think it's a bug, a lot of other people are having the same issue apparently.

  • +1

wow thats worse than bait and switch… false advertising…

  • -3

Yep not one $9 flight! Notify the ACCC!! It's like going to Coles and they got a sign 10c milk. Everyone rushes in finds milk is $2. This cannot keep happening.

    • +2

There were LOTS of $9 flights when the deal went live.
      Specials sell out fast.

  • That was quick.

  • Watch out for that $8.50 credit card charge per ticket! :P

I saw them when I was at work still on their site. I would have grabbed one except I will be away in Europe at this time. As for Avalon, there is a bus just like skybus that goes to avalon, it is only $2 more than the Tullamarine skybus.
