  • Kind of expensive for a non HD screen laptop with non dedicated graphic card.

Are you guys serious? I thought Ozbargainers were cluey to great deals. This is not a standard laptop - it is a high end ultrabook. At the end of the day, if you are not in the market for this product, it does not mean the price being offered isn't a great deal.

If it's a great deal, it should be upvoted - you shouldn't be commenting based on what you prefer. If someone has a great BMW sale, you don't go around complaining that it is so much more expensive than the Hyundai you can get down the road!

      • +1

Have to disagree. i5 + 1920*1080 is generally only a smidge more than this 'special'.

Seems like everyday pricing to me.

And yes, I AM in the market for an ultrabook (albeit 13.3", which is what I am basing my pricing off, because that is what I have been researching).

        13.3" FHD i7 $1649 (but Acer)
        13.3" FHD Touch IPS i5 Asus $1537

Considering 13.3" is pricier than 15" (my estimate is about $200 here, though I'm willing to be wrong), I'd say you're getting the 500gb external drive for free with this deal. Not very tempting.

        • Let me use an example to point out the flaw in your logic.

The current cheapest Lenovo T430S can be purchased for around $1500. I know if I can get the same product for around $1300, my corporate clients would purchase them in a heart-beat instead of the standard T430 they are currently using.

Are they getting a bargain? Of course they are! But based on your logic, you can always get a cheaper Asus laptop at the same specs for around $600 but I can guarantee you enterprise clients would not even consider getting this.

samsung laptop cannot be equated to high end products… maybe HP, ACER, IBM or DELL

  • +3

This is extremely expensive for an i5, 128 ssd, non hd screen and no graphics card. What is so special about it?

    • +2

it's a got a hidden treasure map on a word document when you open it up

  • +2

Yawn. Waiting for Full HD and touch screen models to appear at cheaper prices.

  • -4

Hang on All, this is a Ultrabook, having a Full HD Screen and Graphics defeats the purpose of an Ultrabook.

Series 9 Ultrabook, lets compare all other models, niot just Spec for Spec, but features that are non comparable to the Series 9.

Can I help with features ?

    • This isn't Full HD unless you have your specs written wrong. It clearly says 1600*900 in your description.

That is a BIG difference to pricing.

    • +2

Sorry, don't understand "having a Full HD Screen and Graphics defeats the purpose of an Ultrabook." That's like saying 15" and up screens defeats the purpose of an Ultrabook.
There are already Ultrabooks appearing with those features and more to come, in 11.6" to around 14" sizes as well, with touch screens and still with decent battery life.

I have a 13.3" Asus UX31E with 1600x900 (nice unit BTW, just the right size) but wish I'd waited for the UX31A 13.3" full HD with touch screen. Also considering ASUS TX300CA with removable tablet screen. Anyone want to do a deal on either of those? :-)

      • Problem is each of those units you mentioned is completely useless, they're limited to the 4GB of ram soldered onto the board. The 15" Series 9 are the only ultrabook I've found that comes close to usable as they have proper SODIMM slots and can handle up to 16GB of ram.

And for this model thats a good price, if only it was was the 256gb ssd version.

        • It may be a good comparative price, but if it doesn't match my requirements it is "completely useless" to me.
4Gb is enough for what I want in an Ultrabook, expansion is not an issue for me, therefore the ones I am looking at are not "completely useless" to me. The extra res and touch screen are what I want. I also have an ASUS Transformer Android tab with keyboard and I touch/swipe the screen as well when using the keyboard, I find myself reaching to touch/swipe the screen on Windows laptops now….

I paid this price for the i7 version 9 months ago.

  • Please check the price on this model anywhere, this is a DEAL ! The price is unmatched, therefore worthy to be posted on Ozbargain.

Our previous Samsung Ultrabook Deals proved a success, there are many Samsung Ultrabook Fans out there, and these are very popular in the corporate World as well.

Keep in mind this is a Series 9

Hi Liberty 9 months ago Windows 8 wasn't even released, what did you buy ?

Our Samsung 15" Series 9 is a Windows 8 Model.

    • +4

Not sure how this is better than this
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/87371
      or this
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/93347

So your claim in "breaking the PRICE BARRIER" is a bit much

And maybe LibertyPrime bought the same laptop with window 7 and he prefer it that way because window 8 on a non touch screen laptop is pretty pointless when window 7 work just fine.

      • spot on !!

      • -2

What you are saying is you disagree with Microsoft charging more for Win 8 than Win 7, and you also disagree that laptop vendors want to charge more for their current models than they do for any leftover Win 7 machines they may have.

It still does not change the fact that this is currently the best price for this model at any time since it's launch.

        • in what point did i disagree with Microsoft charging more for Win8 than Win7. I just said that some people prefer window 7 to window 8. In my opinion, having using both window 8 and 7, window 8 is more suitable to a touch screen device.
Just because it come with window 8 doesnt mean its a current verion.
The dell laptop feature a Q1 2013 intel i7, i am sure this is more current than the i5 from last year. This laptop also is full HD.
The samsung 9 series from shoppingexpress come with an i7 from Q2 2012 comepare to this i5 also from Q2 2012. And if you really mad for win8 you could have bought that buy win8 from microsoft for $199. It would make it a total of $1338. Still cheaper than this deal and you get an i7 and 4 more GB of RAM.

        • The point I am making is, you are comparing win7 models to a win8 model, and as I have explained to you, the laptop vendors PLUS Microsoft have decided to charge more for their win8 products.

Whether I think there is more value in the win8 model is irrelevant and it does not change the fact that vendors are charging more for the win 8 models. If you can show me another Samsung series 9 Win8 model for cheaper than this price, then you may have a point.

PS: I hate Win8, if you must know but that does not convince the vendors to drop their prices.

        • i just told you buy the series 9 laptop from shoppingexpress when the deal is on and buy window 8 from microsoft and install it and you have a better series 9 laptop with window8
The deal is expire atm but that is an example of a way to get a 9 series with window8. And its not hard to convince shoppingexpress to put this deal on again.

        • I like your optimism.

On a side note, I would be interested to know if Samsung has updated any internals of the laptops with this model, after all, there is a change in model number to coincide with the Windows 8. If there is absolutely no change, then I have always questioned how the vendors think they can get away with such a huge premium just for Windows 8.

So what I am alluding to is, although I agree with you that the cheaper way is to get a win 7 model and upgrade it to win 8 yourself, the reality of the situation is, the manufacturers are all charging a huge premium for these newer models. For the short term, this isn't going to change.

  • Not that I'm in the market for one, but it does seem like a good deal for this model. Cheaper than flingshot atm, so long as delivery is included.

    Is it?

    • Shipping is $15 for me

  • It sure does seems to be "breaking the PRICE BARRIER".

  • Please edit the 3 in one card reader as it is extremely misleading. It just reads sd cards.

Otherwise by your logic this laptop should include a 99999 in one Usb port of (Usb flash drives, mouse, keyboard, and hard disk, fan, etc)

  • Card Reader Comment ammended to clarify things as per lamerthanlam request

    **Operating System
    Genuine Windows 8 Pre (64-bit)

What is Pre? Did you mean Pro?

As regards we sell out, you miss out, I personally, would not be disappointed to miss out.

  • Jonaseymour the deal is HOT even with the shipping.

Do you need any other items, I might make the delivery cost worth your while.

    • Dude… I said "Not that I'm in the market for one". lol

  • It's a good deal for this model, even if this model is an expensive one generally

  • Hi Jonaseymour, sounded like you may have wanted one even though you didn't need it.
LOL, anyway keep it in mind

  • Hi highdealer, i see your referring to the shopping express deal that has expired in the past.

We have this model right now, so the deal is current not expired. There price has been inflated up to $1587 so your assumption that they will reduce it back below $1200 is just an assumption.

All I'm trying to say that this deal is valid today and right now, it's a fair comment in saying that, we should not be referring to posts that have expired in the past, as those deals are done and dusted they cant be purchased. Also knowing the fact that it is a different model as well.

So I ask can anyone buy this Samsung Series 9 Ultrabook Cheaper anywhere, if not than this is a DEAL worthy fo Ozbargain Customers.
