    grabbed one thanks OP
Will either replace the other halfs old NUC or the HTPC 4th gen TinyPC

Will it take a monster … external disk array?

    • +2

Exactly what I was thinking.. Can you use it with a DIY Home NAS build ?

      • +2

I used a similar sized Lenovo m93q motherboard to upgrade my old HP N36L NAS box.

        • I have a spare N36L. Was it difficult to swap the motherboards?

  • Coupon didn't work for me. Which i didn't realise until after hitting pay. sad face emoji.

    • +1

Ebay purchase history will show full price. Make sure to drill into details and you'll see coupon applied (if you did it)

      • Thanks, but order total and palpal both show full price. I've requested a cancellation. when attempting to reorder, the coupon is not valid… Seems i'm a bit rubbish at impulse shopping..

Is your eBay account an Aussie account? .. Often the eBay Aus codes don't work if your account was made or set for a different country… You can contact support and get it set as an Aussie account…

  • +1

damn, this went out too fsat. Sold out!

  • Are these better than the N97 mini pcs you often see on sale?

    • +2

Usually yes…even ones like this but 3 generations older are more powerful…however…these are 3+ years older, 2nd hand, and have active cooling (ie a small annoying fan that starts up at the slightest provovation…so keep it a good distance away)

    • +1

Yes, they are. The i5 9400 has higher clocks (around 8% faster) and 6 cores vs 4 cores on the N97. Consumes more power for it though.

  • Can you take these out and put the motherboard/parts into a mid size atx case or is there some weird config/setup/power supply/cable issue doing this

    • +4

all proprietary really, not worth the hassle

      • +3

Better off buying an equivalent as SFF.

    • +2

It's better to just get the desktop versions of these computers if you want to do that sort of stuff.

They come with a non T processor so performance isn't limited and they get around the same idle power draw.

Also they come with a PSU that can power hard drives.

Sometimes it's an absolute headache and involves buying various convertor cables etc. which make it financially unviable.

What you are referring to is called a 'case swap' so google that first before trying.

  • Went out of stock before any "Another lenovo" comment.

  • Could the USB-C front input support dual 2k displays? I'm getting conflicting answers online. Seems to be an older USB-C 3.1 Gen 1. Some resources say it supports video, some say it's data transfer only.

    • Given this unit was released around 2020, and usb-c video out was just introduced around that time but limited to high-end laptops, I highly doubt ít.

Also, I could be wrong, but I have never seen a desktop computer that support video out via usb-c natively.

      • I have never seen a desktop computer that support video out via usb-c natively

It happens but usually reserved for the higher end boards, sadly. Which usually go in machines with a dGPU anyway.

      • Also, I could be wrong, but I have never seen a desktop computer that support video out via usb-c natively.

It's pretty common these days, certainly with USB4 but a lot of 3.2 2x2 boards support it as well. I'm writing this on a Mac Mini that natively does DisplayPort over USB-C

      • Damn, that's really disappointing. I have a docking station that allows for one-plug Dual 2k video output, PD, webcam etc. into my work laptop, and I'm trying to find a mini desktop that I could easily plug into after the work day is over. I guess I'll need to up my budget a fair bit.

    • +1

i wouldnt expect so with the age of hte machine, just run 1x HDMI and 1x DP

      • Yeah 1xHDMI is 1xDP is an option. However my dilemma is I have a very neat one-plug USB-C setup via Docking Station for my work laptop, which allows for my Dual 2k video output, PD, Webcam etc. I'm trying to find a cheap mini PC that could also accept that one-plug (excl PD) to keep my desk nice and tidy. I plan to switch between my work laptop and mini PC every evening, which is why I want keep the one-plug solution.

I don't need any performance as it'll just be for web browsing so I'm trying to find the cheapest and smallest PC that allows me to utilize my docking station.

        • Are you set on that form factor? Wonder if you could get a refurbished laptop that would offer this functionality, plus added portability if you needed it.

          • @cjmoore: No I'm not, and I'm starting to think the same. I just thought I might get better value for money spec wise with a mini PC. But it seems like I'd be much better off with a laptop.

            • @AlbiesDad: Laptops are the go as long as you dont need to tinker. PCs have more flexibility (usually) for adding/expanding/upgrading components. In your case and with Laptops having some unique features might be better off with them?

              • @Borg: Ended up grabbing a refurb laptop from the same seller as this post, scrolled through at least 50 listings looking for the cheapest one with 16Gb RAM + Thunderbolt. Thanks!

    • I’d have to double-check the part number but if it’s a similar motherboard to what we run in our fleet then it won’t support video, and is power + data transfer only. I’d be very surprised if it did, though.

    • Data transfer only, have the unit and can confirm

  • These make kickass Proxmox hosts

    • Out of interest, if you had one or more of these to sit and run a bunch of containers/VMs as proxmox nodes in a larger cluster, what would you then do for bulk storage? I assume you could run USB hard drives off each one, but that's probably not ideal, and some kind of external disk shelf for 4-6 drives might be better if you wanted to accumulate many Linux ISOs…

      • I've got a 4TB USB HDD plugged into mine, but I don't really collect that many Linux ISOs. The USB HDD mostly just gets used for container/VM backups and other random bits and pieces.

You can also connect internal HDD's to them if you don't mind leaving the case open and it looking a bit messy.

      • You can use a separate Linux box or NAS running NFS to provide shared storage.

      • This particular model has a pci slot you can get a riser for easily and put in a low height card. Then get a qnap expansion box and use the lp pcie card they give you. It also has two m.2 slots for ssds and you can usually put a 2.5” drive in instead of using the space for the pcie card.

      • If you want multiple HDDs consider getting a SFF instead, e.g. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/185505662721
Similar price once you upgrade RAM/ SSD.

Is there something special about this unit?

They have a similar Dell version for $153.00
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/194418579363

Edit: I guess it seems to have 1 less nvme slot, no pcie slot, half the SSD but saves $50

    • +1

The Dell 7060 doesn't have a PCIe slot, where as the Lenovo P330 does. The Dell 7060 also comes with a "T" processor which is more power efficient, but might not pack as much punch as the i5-9400.

I'm sure there would be other subtle differences but that (plus the NVMe slot you've pointed out) would be the main ones.

As to which one is the best - really depends on your use case. If it's browsing the internet and some streaming, the Dell would be plenty IMO.

Damn, shame i missed this. Any more coming in?

  • It's back in stock! Gogogo guys.

    • No its not….or at least not anymore.

  • Received this order today, and there’s no way this place is legit. How do you “accidentally” send an M700 instead of the listed item? They’ve sold over 300+ on eBay, and if they’re “mixing up” even 10 orders to less tech-savvy buyers (not the crowd here on OzBargain), they’re making a solid profit off this scam.

Oh, and good luck trying to reach them, phone support is nonexistent.

Wasted half a day running around Perth to return this. Lesson learned: never using eBay again. What a joke compared to Amazon.

Just noting this for future reference not to use this reseller

    • …so you received a Lenovo M700 tiny? How do you know it wasn't a mistake, have others reported the same?

      • It’s possible it was a mistake, but given that they’re unreachable by phone and have sold 300+ units, it seems suspicious. These people deal with computers every day, it’s their job, so you’d think they’d be specialists in knowing the difference just by looking at the 2.

I used guest checkout, which made the return process much harder… yeah, I know, silly me

        • Shoot them a MSG via Ebay direct link on the PC itself. I did the other day and got a reply back within a few hours (general enqury). Its highly possible that the warehouse stuffed up. Time will tell.

    • There are good deals to be had but you have to be willing to jump through the hoops…

When you buy a refurb you have to be prepared to return it, issues are VERY common, "refurb" generally means it's been wiped over and had a fresh OS install, no other checks or anything… (they should really be listed as 'used', not 'refurbed' IMO)

I always pay the $5 for ebay Plus for a month before purchasing just to make life a bit easier with returns… (the extra % off with Plus usually covers the $5 to get it)

It's best to not get too mentally invested or buy other bits to go with your purchase until it's arrived and you've checked it over…

A lot of people have no issues with this seller but 4 out of 4 purchases for me have been 'not as described', wrong CPU, wrong/less RAM, stuffed battery, and such… (Call me stupid but I just placed another order with them, lol)
