  • It's not very specific, and not posted by the rep. No real way of confirming this apart from a couple comments.

    • I assume you can call the store before you go?

That facebook post was made by the company on 10 July 2012, and they are still giving these away 6 months later?! That's a very long promotion, one which I think will end after they get ozbargained. I feel sorry for these guys, they will end up giving away more free cables in this week, than they have in the last 6 months.

Mdippa - lol! Its been OZB'ed now but we will let it run for a few days … Would be unfair otherwise!

Explains where all the extra likes came from overnight though!

        :)

        • Lol.
          Nice work Matt.

        • Congratulations Matt for getting OZbargained. You so wanted it to happen.

  • +7

    Top bloke the owner is.
    Very good prices all round.

    • +3

      I agree;)

      • I am sure Matt you do agree as do many others.

  • close by, but wont be able to get there until the wkend :( Wonder if they'll still be available (me thinks not)

Do you think cable is sufficient for my LCD screen or should i invest in a monster HDMI cable for $219? I managed to negotiate it to $200 @ Harvey Normans which i think is fairly reasonable.

    • +5

I really hope people realise this is a joke and dont go out and spend hundreds on a HDMI cable…

    • This has to be a joke right? HN HDMI cable is so overpriced it is not funny.

      • +6

Whenever you see monster and hdmi cable you know it's a joke.

        • It's a Monster.

        • +3

          Of a joke.

    • +1

      Hell no.
Don't buy cables from Hardly normal.
Ring these guys and ask about there cables.
It should be illegal to sell them at that price. The monster cables that is or any cable asking that much.

    • +6

No, I would say haggle down to at least $180 and you should be good. You never know the quality of these free cables.

      • +23

The 1's and 0's are much clearer when using Monster cables. It's science.

        • +3

It's so clear the 1's are like 2's and the 0 is almost -1

    • +17

Yes you should definitely get it. All other cables are inferior. HDMI cables aren't really just a set of wires that run from one end to the other. Some have magical ponies inside them which make the electrons move faster from one end to the other giving you a better picture.

      • +1

Wish I could give you double positives for the ponies comment!!

    • Don't forget to pick up a surge protector too, and an extended warranty!

So spend $10 in petrol to drive to nearest store, then get it when i can get one cheaper than 10?

    • which then I can get it cheaper than $10 at ebay or elsewhere?

    • True, but may be convenient for someone living nearby, so I gave it a + but won't use the offer. At least I learnt where Carlton is (near Kogarah).

  • +5

let's pretend this HDMI cable is the same one that got sold in HN….
WOW! I am geting $200 in freebies!

  • +10

I want to take my free cable and get the guys at HN to show me how their $200 cables are better.

  • will officeworks beat this price and give me a 3.15m cable?

    • +1

No they will not price match. It needs to have a price for them to match.

Good one early in the morning.

    • +4

OW will pay you to take them away.

I'm going to keep my post short and sweet (just like a 3mt HDMI cable) and suggest people read:

    http://gizmodo.com/266616/the-truth-about-monster-cable

    • Better skip the article and read the comments under the article.

    • Surely a 3 metric ton HDMI cable is neither short nor sweet…

  • +2

Not plated with unicorn leather :(

I'd rather spend another $150 for one that does

  • +2

I can certainly testify that above 10meters, quality of the cable comes into play… 3 meters, cheap cables may die if they are moved to much due to the cheap build quality and thin wires, however, for a back of the PC to monitor that just stays there, unless you get a dodgy cable you should be pretty right.

    • +1

    • +1

Indeed. Long runs or strange setups (eg: dvi switch box and dvi-hdmi adapters) require better quality cables. Poor quality cables can make artifacts like green speckling rather than failing to produce a picture.

It's harder to find this out on the internet as the "cable quality doesnt matter for digital signal" falsehood is well spread. I speak from personal cabling experience.

For 99% of setups, cable quality does not matter.

PS: Monster cables are not better quality cables.

  • is this 1.3 or 1.4 version?

    • +2

      Cmoravin,

They are all version 1.4! TCC do not stock or sell anything else…

  • Hey, what a surprise! No SA again!

  • Morningside…hmm, bloody long way for a free HDMI cable, but great "deal".

  • +1

    Adelaide OzBargainers say "hello"

  • Got one from WA pickup point. Guthrie street, they were not too pleased I guess.

    • I am about to go there, what do you mean they were not too pleased about it?

  • +1

    Andy-laa & xyron,

We are working on a pickup point for TCC in Adelaide this year … Hopefully we will announce something soon for you guys!

    :)

  • I tried going to the sydney store today and it is an empty shop front.

  • Hi elliel,

We had lots of cables collected at that address today. Are you sure you had the right place?

    3/40 Waterview street, Carlton

    • It's an awesome offer, didn't get to make it today. Do you have any left?

      • +1

        Hundreds! :)

    • picked mine up today…looks like a quality cable, thanks!

Shopfront did look empty / had a different sign - but just ring the doorbell, it's definitely the right place

  • +1

Hey Matt, how much for a wall bracket for a 60inch plasma tv, if I'm going in for a free cable, I better buy something.

  • Berger $20 should see you clear! :)

    • See you in the morning!

  • Is this still going on at kogarah?

    edit: carlton

  • Any left in Carlton nsw?
