    Shopback can't be trusted.

  • +8

Are they now a scam site? Beware.

    • +7

What happened ? Was there a recent deal where they let everybody down again?

      • +5

Same as it’s been the past few years. So basically almost all of their deals.

      • +5

Still waiting for them to fix this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/882356

      • +2

Yes got scammed in this deal. Their rep on OzB and their customer service promised to fix the clusterf#$k by 31st January but they didn't.

    • +6

Imo yes! Initially tracks then gets adjusted to 0 without notification and then rejected without a valid reason.

      • Same here and when i followed up, i got such as generic reply! They adjust my $50 worth of casback from myer to $0! It's been 5 days since I asked what criteria i didn't meet and no reply! I'm never using Shopback again.

        Reply from REP:

I know it’s disappointing to hear your cashback request hasn’t gone through. Eligibility for Cashback is set by the merchant, who pays a commission based on the order meeting the terms and conditions of the store. If this is not met, the merchant does not pay ShopBack a commission, so there is no Cashback to pass on.

  • +13

Shopback is no longer good. No longer tracking cashback, and when missing cashback is raised, it will ultimately end up being rejected.

  • +5

Shopback didn't honor the advertised rate for missing TEMU ones claimed.

  • +6

not to be trusted, failed to track, and incorrectly tracked one too many times…

  • +4

@gotyourback might be want to be passing on some of these comments mate. The discontent is growing

I'll do what I normally do - take advantage of the rate, have it not track or track at zero, and share the screen capture of the transaction to get it manually applied. ALWAYS SCREEN CAPTURE!!!! particularly ebay

    • +4

Got all the screen captures and proofs. Problem is they don't have customer service anymore. Sent dozens of emails but only received automatic bot responses. @gotyourback assured everyone affected that correct cashback will be fixed by 31st January but it still hasn't been fixed.

      • +1

I took a whole video of my transaction and the reply I got was so vague, as they didn't want to pay the $50 cashback:

        • +1

Yep so they give a generic response because they don't actually have any proof a t&c wasn't met. It should be shopbacks responsibility to ensure an actual and true reason is given to their customers.

        • +4

Can we not take this up with ACCC or Consumer Affairs or any other regulator? It could be a case of false advertising if you've done everything they asked you to do and you've got proof of it. This is a load of crap - "the merchant does not pay ShopBack a commission, so there is no Cashback to pass on…." It's the cashback provider's job to work with the merchant to resolve this. But if their customer service is non-existent then we get such lazy and useless response from the cashback provider.

  • +6

I got scammed by ShopBack on their promised “100%” cashback from this deal

They attempted to fix it but the % wasn’t adding up to 100%, and no reply and updates to the comment thread from the rep

  • +7

Can we just block this dumpster fire of a scam?

    • +1

There's an option at the bottom of the deal to hide deals from this store.

  • +3

The discontent is real. Shopback lost its way years ago and it has not been anywhere near the same since.

  • +3

My last order on 28/1 during the the eBay 10% cashback flash sale 4pm-10pm did not track.

Due to repeated experiences with these types of offers, I am wary.

    • -1

Literally tracked no issue 1hr left into promotion.

  • +4

I previously assumed that people who didn't get cashback to track had probably done something wrong (e.g. had an ad blocker running etc). That was until a recent deal where Shopback had 50% cashback on James Squire 150 Lashes at BWS. My order only tracked at $0.84.
After numerous emails they finally sorted this out. I then went though my history and discovered that I had other cashback that had tracked at the wrong amount and others that had been rejected for no valid reason. I couldn't be bothered with the effort of dealing with their frustrating support. I now generally stick to Topcashback. I've never had any issues so far.

    • +2

Topcashback is only one left with an active rep on here who can actually do something meaningful. No cashback site is perfect but at least when something goes wrong it's good to have someone trustworthy who can investigate.

      • Old GYB/rep was good, but clearly they've replaced whoever that was as they're never around now and won't sort out any issues anyway.

    • I previously assumed that people who didn't get cashback to track had probably done something wrong

Very unfortunate that this is the default opinion across most active users on australian forums/subreddits. Rampant victim blaming that shut down most discussions calling out shady businesses.

  • +5

I just went through my Shopback history for the last 6 months. No issues, even had $100+ ones paid out. There’s a ton of $0 eBay and Amazon ones.. but those were speculative ones anyway as with eBay coupons they are nearly always not supposed to pay out anyway. Amazon pays out 0% in most categories I buy anyway

    • Same, this is generally my experience with Shopback as well but concerning to read the comments here about their customer service.

  • Had an issue with ShopBack in store pay rejecting my payment method, the issue seemed to be app related as it ended rejecting every payment method I tried. Issue seemed to be impacting gift card purchases as well, which wasn’t great as I hadn’t used my monthly ShopBack Plus $5 off offer yet. Tried contacting support, no response. Updated the ticket every few days with new issues that were popping up, still no response.

The issue seemed to rectify itself after a month or 2, in all that time I had never received a response and most of my loyalty cashback transactions had expired without me being able to do anything. A month later, I had the same and just didn’t even bother using the app anymore. Big waste of time, and no actual customer support anymore to resolve issues that were previously handled within a week

  • What time later today?

    • 4pm

      • Thanks!

    • 3pm, in Qld

  • +10

Fails to track in the first place.
Contact support, after many attempts and follow up, gets incorrectly tracked. FML
Contact support again which is joke at this stage,
Then only to be rejected for no reason.
ShopBack, you have lost the plot. Never again!

  • +1

It's ridiculous I know, but my hack to get shopback support to reply is to post my poor service experience on their Facebook group. Each time I get a support email reply quickly, issue resolved, and they reply to my comment with the generic "thanks for reaching out, we've resolved your cashback issue" public comment for all to see.

They have resolved my last backlog of issues dating back to August 2024 as of last week, so I guess I'll take part in this deal since my shopback not tracked list in my notes is currently blank!
Ebay cashbacks with TCB and CR are rare, and 20% is a good deal.

    • 20% is good only if it tracks and approves. You can still get 10% with TCB's highest cashback guarantee - I did it 3 times last year with no problem with the claims. You'll lose Paypal's Buyer Protection if you pay directly by card on eBay anyway. I had plenty of occasions that the eBay return window had passed on a faulty item, seller didn't give a **** and need to resort with Paypal to get my money back. A card chargeback/dispute is lengthy and not exactly easy to do so it's up to you whether to risk it or not.

      • So a Westpac linked card via PayPal doesn't give the bonus?

        • +1

That's right. The bank bonus T&Cs state that purchases made with PayPal will not qualify:

Purchases made using an online payment method such as PayPal, where ShopBack is unable to identify whether an eligible card was used at the checkout (including any purchases made on ShopBack), will not qualify for bonus Cashback (even where an eligible card is linked e.g. to the PayPal account).

  • Good deal if it works. But SB are incompetent now so dont expect any support even when they stuff up. Didn't even mean to up-vote but won't let me remove.

  • I appreciate GYB for their presence and support, but the upsize tracking for eBay seems to be a constant miss. Still waiting for the December upsize to be corrected after logging a job AND messaging GYB. So not going to upvote this deal

  • +2

    Won’t track, don’t bother

    • -1

      Wrong

  • +1

My experience with Shopback is mostly good. But eBay with Shopback has been horrible, almost always gets rejected, given up trying.

  • Ebay tracking has been quite good for me. I normally get tracking within 5-6 hours now from order. I don’t know why others experiencing different only issue I had was first time with Apple Pay.

    • +1 on this. My SB ebay tracking has always worked, but my eBay apple pay portion did not track from December. I finally got SB support to reply last Friday and they applied the $ manually.

They said that my apple pay wasn’t linked at the time, but is now which is definitely wrong though, it’s was linked at the time.

  • My experience has been mostly good. A couple of missing cashbacks, but quickly resolved after sending screenshots of transactions.

    • +1

Yes until it doesn't. Had no issue with their CS for years until recently. They just don't care about the stuff ups anymore unfortunately.

  • +1

Shopback needs to fix this wide spread issue. Rep is MIA.

    • And mine that did track (without changing to $0) is still pending past the approval date now…

      • +2

I've got thousands in Cashback and have always vouched for the Cashback companies as they are usually good at resolving issues. This is unacceptable though. At a miminum, they need to be providing updates to their customers.

  • Failed to track for me as well last time.

  • Pulled the trigger 1.5hrs ago and still nothing.
Last SB attempt (monkey shoulder) failed to track.
Skeptical but 20% stacked is a good.
If this fails I'm out, a good deal is only a good deal if you actually get it. Not worth the hassle otherwise. Shame Westpac associates with SB, way too hit and miss

    • +1

Pulled the trigger 1.5hrs ago and still nothing.

Based on almost every previous eBay upsized cashback offerings via ShopBack, my transactions didn't track until atleast 6+ hours later. They used to track a lot quicker years ago.

      • Comment checked out.
        Tracked roughly 8hrs post purchase.
Both bonuses tracked at full rate not ex GST also
Wait and see what's paid out

  • +1

Failed to track woolies giftcard promotion from westpac, two giftcard tracked, one of them untracked, sent to @gotyourback but hasn’t been replied. Some of the cases he solved. But this one, no answer. I’ve sent my bank screenshots of the transaction and all of the proof. Viola! Boo! Nothing happened. Not sure if I can trust SB anymore

    • He finally replied to confirm my cashback. Thanks God, it resolved.

  • Is the standard CB capped per transaction, or account?

    • +1

Should be per transaction. Historically it has been, it's a shame they don't word it better.

      • Thanks mate, appreciate your help.
I've made 1 order, lets see what happens since the last time was a mess

  • I find eBay tracking okay in Firefox with privacy mode off and no plugins. Temu is untrackable and many other stores like Youfoodz will never give you the high % they promise to. It's definitely gone downhill in the past year. Tracking is far from assured when taking precautionary measures.

  • Can we ban ShopBack from ozbargain? They are shady AF and their product doesn’t function as advertised. Legit question what does it take to ban posts for a certain company ?

  • Still no tracking LoL :)

    • Tracked, looks promising 😁

  • +2

My CB just tracked at correct 10%+10%

    • Mine too. Maybe I've been lucky, but I haven't had any major issues with bank bonuses or tracking more generally

    • +1

Mine was also tracked at 4%+10%. I was just a bit too slow for the standard 10% CB which went down to 4% CB for some jack stand pads I bought. But will certainly be watching the payout like a hawk now.

  • Mine got tracked, $41.31 on a $261.99 item.

  • +1

    Confirmed by 03 Apr 2025

going to use OzBargain reminder feature to remind me to check whether these payments do indeed confirm given the backlash described in this post

  • +2

As it turns out it didn't fail to disappoint. I ordered something cheap and unimportant just to test my luck - while the eBay transaction tracked in a couple of days, the bank bonus didn't. It's ticket time again and see what excuses will they give this time.
