Is there a lactose free version?

    • +9

      that's Apple

      • +1

        any bargain ?

    • Well neeeeerrrrrd , is there ⁉️

    • +17

Literally not comparable in specs or price.

      • Would the jump to S25 be worth the price difference? (550+79 - 400=229)

        • +10

The real question you should be asking is when would you ever need the s25 specs?

          • +1

@Originality: I think this phone is a better proposition for those looking for increased battery life. 5000 vs 4000mah.

          • @Originality: The real question is , why would you ask ?
It should be close to day and night difference.

        • "Jump to" iPhone16$$$ would be cliff jumping. Stay here ;)

      • Literally, not figuratively

    • Probably the s25.

posted this a few months back, still relevant.

I've had this phone (in white as well) for 2 weeks (7 months now), did that JBHIFI $50 3G phone credit trade in thing, got it for $479…

    Pros
    - Excellent screen (120Hz OLED, 6.7" and 1200+ nits)
    - Haptics and build quality are nice (design subjective)
    - Glyphs on the back actually useful for notifications
    - Battery life is actually insane, overnight I will lose 1% in 9-10 hours, it's a 2-day phone for me with 6-8 hours screen on time
    - Camera is probably iPhone 12 good.. video is great and very stable, night video is impressive too!
    - Software is the best part of this phone for me, already had 3 updates in 2 weeks… my old Xiaomi had 3 updates in 9 months lol
    - Symmetrical bezels
    - 4 years of updates from Google/Nothing
    - Don't be fooled by MediaTek, its not 2019 anymore, this is an incredibly efficient chip with a 750K antutu score.

    CONS
    - Camera is good, but it's not a flagship, it is a $500 phone though
    - Glyphs can feel gimmicky after a while
    - No charger in the box
    - Get a case, this thing is 100% plastic and will scratch
    - It's huge/wide phone, may be uncomfortable to hold for some.

Just my 2c… 9/10 for me given its price.

EDIT: Since I posted this comment 4 months ago, the updates are something phenomenal. They listen in the forums and update things people want. 10/10 support, now running android 15 buttery smooth! (it also helps there's a really nice port of Gcam, which has improved the colours/low light images)

    • Lol had to scroll up to confirm the date today when reading the edit. 😂

    • Sorry does it come with a SDcard slot?

    • Boring question: how is dust and dirt ingress? I saw a few comments saying dust and hair here in.

    • I've been meaning to look into Gcam - do you have a link for the build you're using?

    • I had to get it for $639 no notice when my SIM stopped working after my phone was confirmed to be supported by shut-off.

It's fine, but it would have been worth the price above.

    • Speakers?

    • Plastic is a little weird in a world of titanium, stainless steel, and glass.

    • How are these phones better than Samsung Galaxy or Google Pixel phones?

You compare this phone with Samsung or Google ? LOL

      • -2

        🤣

    • +11

how are they better? about $1500 give or take

      • -4

        🤣

    • -4

Not sure why you got downvoted, decent question that I was thinking when I saw this deal. Not phased on the quality/price of the phone as it would be used for calls mainly, but always wondered about the security.

Also, wondered if these might get banned on day like Huawei.

      • 👍🙏

  • One of the volume buttons got stuck in on mine after only a week - took it back and got a refund.

    • -4

Show similar issue someone has posted on last deal, probably a common issue

      • +13

It's the same person that posted on both

  • Will the camera be better than the iphone 11?

    • +2

post above compares camera to iphone 12

      • +1

& can improve with future AI updates as it has more RAM. For AI it's better to get the 12GB/256GB for better than iPhone12+

  • I bought a Moto G85 5g a few months ago because I needed a new phone urgently, but to be honest it's kind of doing my head in. Terrible Wi-Fi, delayed/missing notifications and the general multitasking performance is frustrating.

Would this phone be a reasonable improvement? Cheers.

    • +3

I've just gone from the g84 to this 2a. Absolutely love it. Feels completely different to the Motos, I've had a couple of those. Actually nothing i don't like about it yet. Camera is the best I've had in a phone. Much much much better than the g84.

      • +3

Ahhh go on then, eating's overrated anyway! Ordered, thanks ;)

    • I have the G84 and once I disabled 5G everything just started working perfectly, not sure if the G85 is the same?

    • Anything is an improvement over those junk phones (I had all the same issues)

    • Delayed notifications can be fixed by allowing full data for the affected apps. It's in the app info, I forgot where.

Make sure you disable the pause permissions if unused as well.

  • +2

Looking for a phone at about this price but about the size of a pixel 4a for my mum if anyone has suggestions? A recent patch has ruined her battery life and I don’t keep up with Android phones much anymore.

Would stretch to $800 but don’t like paying full price for an 8a given the heavy discounting it saw at launch.

    • +1

See if it's eligible for this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/888058

      • It is eligible and we asked for the us$50 credit but that is 3 weeks away and isn’t covering the cost anyway.

    • +1

It's a real pain - those of us with Pixel 4A or 5 can't get anything new remotely the same size in Oz, and imports are now a total crap shoot in terms of compatibility… The S24/S25 seem to be the only phones on the market under 150mm tall!

  • +4

Purchased one last Monday and in a few days my unit developed the unfortunate green tinting on the top half of the OLED panel that persisted through reboots and display changes. Ended up getting a refund from JB taking into the store on Friday - no questions asked once they saw it. Apparently its a pretty widespread thing that happens to people's 2a.

I did have a great time using it, performed great and I did like the glyph lighting on the back - trying to use my phone less. The UI seems well polished and bespoke, especially with OS 3.0 that came out in December. Bigger than the Fold's closed screen, much lighter. The camera performance was noticeably slower (compared to a flagship), but just take an extra second to line it up before shooting and it'll still be good. Battery was great in the short few days I was using it, it could definitely last 2 days.

It was an impulse buy at that point (retail therapy), but I am just going to be happy with my Pixel 9 Fold. 😌

Copy pasting my comment from last deal about this issue:

Amazing price and seems like a bargain but I wanted to point out that there seems to be a green tint issue regarding this phone due to potential hardware issues. Seems to not be to uncommon browsing through online forums - Nothing haven't properly addressed this issue yet, but I would just keep that in mind

Definitely seems like widespread thing, but it seems like Australian stock seems less likely to have this issue compared to over seas.

I think if JB were this happy to just refund, I'd probably risk it though

  • Four years of security patches from launch date so that means three years.

    https://www.androidauthority.com/phone-update-policies-16586…

    Or have they extended that?

  • this or the Motorola edge 50 pro?

    • +2

The curved screen on the Edge 50 Pro is a deal breaker for me.

    • Where did you find the Edge 50 pro for $399?

I'd absolutely consider grabbing this Nothing deal, but would miss the IP67 rating too much as I work outside.

      • +1

I paid 422 via JB last month with gift cards. Price error ;)

  • bought one. Its fine. Actually its really good. The screen is flagship quality.

  • +1

Just a quick note that the milk white version was also available from the previous deal, I bought one :)

  • Bought one of these in the last deal, and have been very happy with it. Been impressed by the MediaTek chip, and no issues with the screen so far 🤞. Only very minor complaint is that the built in ring tones are terrible imo.

    • 100% agree, my partner was very annoyed by the default alarm choices as I tend to press snooze a lot!

  • +1

    This or a pixel 8a?

    • Not by much but the eSIM put the 8a across the line for me. Plus, the JB deal at launch made it much better value, though the N2 probably has the edge for price now

  • rootable for nsg?

  • They are teasing the 3 on YouTube, claiming will be about 500 Usd

  • +1

No eSIM is the only thing holding me back.

    • +6

as per soooo many other posts with phones that have no esim, just buy an esim sim card from 5ber

      • Esim sim card would take up the physical sim place right?

        • +3

That's correct, and you just need to use an Android app to manage the SIMs stored on those 5ber cards. Doesn't work with eSIM providers that use their own app to check whether your phone is supported though, i.e. eskimo.

      • Extra 25US dollars for unlimited eSIM which means 10% extra for this deal.

  • -8

I've seen one at JB Hi Fi Carindale just before New Year Eve. That phone had a dead green robot on the boot sreen, so it instantly put me off this model.

    • +3

What does that prove? Most likely some kid was playing around with it.

    • +4

Anyone can do that with an Android phone if you hold the volume down and power button simultaneously when turning it on.

  • -1

not very ideal when you can get s25 cheapest model in 500….

  • +4

tommorrow(29/01),WWS,TCN gift card, 20x EDR points(equal to 10% off), can be used for JB. Then $400 down to $360. Just waiting one day.

    • I don't know what the above, could you elaborate on what the acronyms mean or post a link to the deal please?

      • +2

My guess is WWS = Woolworths Sale.

The TCN gift card is on sale from today and is giving 20x Everyday Rewards (EDR) points per this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/890742.

$400 worth of TCN gift cards should earn you 8,000 EDR points (400x20), which is then worth $40 as 2,000 points generally equate to $10 off at Woolworths.

Hope this helps, and welcome any corrections from more experienced Ozbargainers :)

Considering Samsung s25 can be bought via Studentdays/Samsung EDU website for around 450 (including trade in) plus a pair of buds pro 3 added on for another 30 bucks (with GALAXY2025 code) this is no longer a great deal.

    • +1

What are you trading in to make it cost $450

      • 4 year old s21 128GB. its done. Only paid 420 for that as well

        • Darn that's a good deal. How did the coupons stack so much, could you share?

    • Got a link for that deal?

    • +1

Smaller, you could sell that S21 for $200 or more, need to be a student… That's a stretch.

I moved from S22+ and am happy, didn't need much, just a new toy and better battery. Depending on how much I get for the 22+, might make a few bucks.

The android implementation is smoother and quicker, surprising for the chip scoring much lower in benches.

      • +1
        1. Unlikely for a 4 year old phone where the battery is shot. I traded in 145. Hassle free
No risking life on FB marketplace either lol

Theres quite a few blog posts on ozbargain which talk about how to get .edu email and then code stacking discounts.

  • +1

    I'm happy with mine.

  • How do we know whether a phone (e.g. this) will work with Telstra (post 3g shutdown)?

    • +2

I have one and it works fine on Telstra. It fully supports VoLTE

    • +1

Someone also checked using Telstra's 3G checker in the comments of the last deal

  • Security update until 2028 - so only 4 years of life left

    • +1

The phone will keep working after updates stop.

  • -5

    not my type no deal
