FYI: If you're specifically after the TCN Party card (which is redeemable at JB Hi-Fi), it is also 10% off at Coles this week. This is good if you hit your limits or want a straight discount.

    • $50 denomination is a no for me.

        Denominations

These gift cards appear to be sold at Woolworths in the following denominations:

        TCN Gift: $30, $50, $100
        TCN Party: $25, $40
        TCN Pub & Bar: $50, $100
        TCN Good Food: $100, $200
        Stan: $30

        Credits to FreePoints

Therefore the $50 at Coles is better.

        • Instant discount is better and less hassle but WW has the larger denomination $100 TCN Gift for use at JB (tho limit 2 per day).

Unlucky $100s gone off the shelves by the time I arrived.

    • Can I use them to buy Apple GC at jb hifi?

      • +1

        Yes

        • hmm I thought they cracked down on that. I'm sure I read that in a previous deal. @WookieMonster you remember?

          • +2

@rpb: It is against both JB Hi-Fi’s gift card policy and TCN gift cards’ terms and conditions to use a TCN gift card to purchase a gift card at JB Hi-Fi, but AFAIK, it is up to staff to enforce this.

  • 20x EDR points or 10% straight discount at Coles?

    • +2

EDR if you want Qantas, otherwise 10%

      • Book before July

    • Depends on your amount
Are you ok with $30-$50 gcs?

  • Is there a way to check merchant codes for purchases I've previously made?

    • You will most likely need to contact your card issuer and see whether they are able or willing to tell you this information.

Selected cards (e.g. digital TCN gift cards operating on the Mastercard or Visa networks, Hiver Bank's Visa debit card) will show you the MCC through online banking and/or mobile app.

      • Thanks very much. Looks like risking it with a small amount first is what I'm going to have to do.

  • Thanks OP. The TCN Good Food can be converted to digital unlike the one sold at Coles, I think?

    • +8

All physical TCN Good Food gift cards can now be converted into digital TCN Good Food gift cards through the TCN Good Food website, regardless of whether it was purchased from Coles, Woolworths or elsewhere. That means if you bought any at 15% off during last year's Black Friday sale at Coles, you can now convert to digital.

      • +1

It worked! And It's easy to convert, thanks. The physical TCN Good Food is 9/10 failed at a random restaurant so not worth it. Go digital is much better.

        • Same. I had the TCN restaurant and get rejected almost all restaurant. How you pay if your bill is $120 but you only have $100 GC?

          • @oyespek: I'd ask for a split payment in that case. I can't think of other ways.

      • Can TCN Pub and Bar physical card be also converted to digital?

        • Yes, you can do this on the TCN Pub & Bar website linked in the table in the deal description.

  • Does it apply to variable load card?

  • can the good food cards be used at Cafe's ?

    • Yes

    • +4

It depends on a couple of factors.

      1. The MCC assigned to the café.

I would have thought that cafés are supposed to use MCC 5812 (Eating Places and Restaurants), but I just had a look at Mastercard's MCC manual and they actually say cafés are supposed to be classified as MCC 5814 (Fast Food Restaurants):

Merchants that sell prepared food and beverages for immediate consumption either on the premises or packaged for carry-out. Fast food restaurants may or may not operate a drive-up window for ordering and pick-up, and may or may not provide table service by a waiter or waitress. In any case, orders are paid for at the counter or at a drive-up window. Fast food restaurants include cafes, cafeterias, grills, coffee shops, diners, pizza parlors, sandwich bars or shops, deli shops, and snack shops. If table service is provided, a gratuity may be added to the bill. Such merchants generally do not sell alcoholic beverages.

Having said that, in reality, who knows how the café you go to has been classified. I have seen cafés use MCC 5812, MCC 5814 and MCC 5462 (Bakeries), and I reason I point this out is that out of these three MCCs, the only one officially permitted on the TCN Good Food gift card is MCC 5812.

      2. Whether the café chooses to accept TCN Good Food gift cards as a payment method.

Assuming the café you go to uses the correct MCC:

      • If you have the physical gift card, you can only use it at cafés that accept swipe (magstripe) payments from eftpos cards. Most EFTPOS terminals I have seen lately still have magstripe readers, but (for example) Zeller has a newer EFTPOS terminal that has no magstripe reader, and I have seen one recently at a café. Additionally, if the café uses Square EFTPOS terminals, those will not process swipe payments from eftpos cards, because Square chooses to not support this. Additionally, cannot use the physical gift card for any payments through a website (e.g. ordering through a QR code at the table).

      • If you have the digital gift card, you can only use it at cafés that either accept payments from a mobile wallet or directly on a website. Keep in mind that some websites will reject the digital gift card, because they do not support 3-D Secure and are therefore a "less secure" payment method. You can get around this by using Apple Pay or Google Pay at the online checkout (where this is supported).

    No OW, No Good

  • Good Food can be used at Nando's?

    • +1

      I doubt it.

The only report of Nando's MCC I have seen was one nearly three years ago, where a store in Brisbane reportedly used MCC 5814 (Fast Food Restaurants). MCCs can change over time, but MCC 5814 sounds like the MCC Nando's is supposed to use.

The TCN Good Food gift card officially does not support MCC 5814, plus there have been multiple reports (with the last one in July 2024, apparently) of the TCN Good Food gift card declining transactions at merchants using MCC 5814.

    • +1
  • +1

Excuse me. A little behind the times. So the TCN Good Food GC’s, can be used similar to the TCN Restaurant GC’s? Previously Good Food GC’s needed to be used at selected restaurants named on the Good Food website.

  • Planning to get good guys gift card. Like 20x $100 of them for a fridge.
Is there any limit on gift card usage in store?

    • +1
      • Thanks for that!

Hope its not to the discrection of the staff member at the time of purchase.

Product i'm buying (LG Fridge) shouldnt be agency product as well.

        • +1

Honestly, as long as you turn up during a relatively quiet time and have taken the gift cards out of the packaging and you know the available balance on each gift card and you know to select Savings and enter the PIN on the EFTPOS terminal, you should be fine.

However, you never know, the staff member you deal with may have fallen out of the wrong side of bed and are just grumpy and want to be difficult!

An LG fridge definitely should not be an agency product. I have purchased an LG fridge from The Good Guys in-store in the past and was able to use gift cards to pay for it.

      • Just confirming as well that the limit per day for that TCN "Gift" Card is only 2 per day for the $100 denomination? Any limit on the other denomination?

        • +1

It should be a maximum of two per day for the $100 denomination of the TCN Gift gift card, and ten per day for each of the other denominations.

You can verify this by going to the payment screen at a Woolworths self checkout (assuming the store you go to has self checkouts). When you are asked to choose your payment option, the points counter on the top right-hand corner should be updated with the number of points you will earn for the transaction. If the number of points does not look right, you can always ask a staff member to void the transaction and take the gift cards off you.

  • Can this be used with JB Hifi for online purchases?

  • My understanding, after looking at the Terms & Conditions, is that the TCN Good Food Gift Card can only be used on selected restaurants listed on the Good Food web site. You cannot use it at all restaurants with a MCC 5812 as shown in the above table.

    • You can if you convert it to digital.

      • OK. I’ll try that. Thank you.

        • I have an update on this. I converted my $200 TCN Good Food GC to digital and tried to use it at a restaurant that always accepts TCN Restaurant Cards.
The Good Food GC got declined but the TCN Restaurant GC was accepted when I tried it after the declined Good Food GC.

          • @Bargain2020: The reason for decline was “Card Not Authorised for This Terminal”

            • +1

@Bargain2020: That most likely means the restaurant was using an MCC not permitted on the TCN Good Food gift card, but one that is permitted on the TCN Restaurant gift card.

My guess is that the restaurant used MCC 5814 (Fast Food Restaurants), because that is known to be blocked on the digital TCN Good Food gift card, but permitted on the digital TCN Restaurant gift card.

  • +3

Purchasing Restaurant Choice Gift Card + 3% cashback at Shopback worked just now, paying with your Good Food Gift card from this deal, after converting it to digital here > go digital. This can be blocked again at anytime.

Not just an extra $3 back, but you'll then have a card you can use at fast food (5814). The only real negative is restaurant choice doesn't have an easy to use app like TCN to check balance.

    Image

    • You mean that I can pay for Restaurant Choice GC in shopback via Digital Good Food Card?

      • +1

        That's correct.

        • If Restaurant Choice is working at Nando's, I am sure that it can be used to buy Physical Nandos's GC's instore - as the terminal for payment is the same.
Not sure, if those GC's can be loaded into Nandos App/Account - but if it can be, it would be great thing. Life will be much easier 😂

    • Are you able to add Good Food Gift to Shopback to use as payment? I tried to add digital TCN Restaurant card to Shopback and it failed. I thought Shopback has blocked this method sometime last year.

      • Yes Digital Good Food is working as a payment method for Restaurant Choice (as of yesterday) on Shopback. I also did it December last year, using Good Food GC from this deal to buy a restaurant choice on Shopback.

I also tried a TCN restaurant card on Shopback last month and it failed. Although the TCN restaurant card works at fast food, unlike Good Food, so the only real loss was the extra 3% cashback.

        • Great, thanks very much. I will give it a try.

    • TCN can disable it at any time as you know the story of Pub & Bar. Probably Pub & Bar is relieved as well?

      • Pub & Bar still wasn't working last month. I don't have one anymore to test again.

        • thanks for sharing - also combining with 3% off Category Choice Grocery @ HCF Thank You => overall 15% off Restaurant Choice :)

do you know if Good Food can be used to buy other gift cards on ShopBack?

    • Has been blocked by Shopback as of today.

Now returns an error message of "For security reasons, you can't link this card to this ShopBack account. Use a card from a different issuing bank and try again."

      • Just confirming that you converted to digital first? I just added an old Good Food Digital gift card with $0.25 left on it, as a payment method to SB now successfully. I obviously can't test purchasing.

        Image

        • Yeah I did. I was able to successfully use several Good Food digital cards on Shopback two days ago.

          • @unclel2: Okay thanks, I can still successfully link a TCN Good Food to my Shopback account. So not sure if it's blocked completely or just a limit reached on your account. We'll see how others go.

            • +1

@hamza23: Cheers for the assistance, got someone else to try it on their account and it worked. Appears to be an account based limit.

  • For the experts - I bought 4x$100 TCN GIFT cards in one transaction (limit overriden by staff) and only received 10x points i.e 4000 EDR points.

Anyone know why I’m missing the other 4000? It was a woolies metro but they confirmed they are participating.

    • +1

For TCN Gift $100, a limit of 2 cards per day per Rewards Member applies.

      • Is that the reward limit as well as the purchase limit?

        • +2

No. You can purchase as many as you'd like, however the 20x rewards points will only be credited to the first 2x $100 cards per day. Easiest way around this would be to purchase 2x $100 cards and then up to 8x $50 cards (there is a limit of 10 cards total per day).

  • How are people getting the Good Food card to go digital? Can't seem to find anything on https://goodfood.gift/ that says 'Go Digital' like the other TCN sites. Picked up the Pub and Bar card as well and made that digital with no issues.

    • +3

The Go Digital button on the TCN Good Food website is in the navigation bar along the top of the website. If you viewing the website from a mobile device, tap the hamburger icon (≡) to bring up the navigation menu options, where you will see the Go Digital button.

The Gift Card FAQ wiki page linked at the bottom of the deal description also has a dedicated FAQ related to exchanging for a digital gift card.

      • It was in the nav bar all along indeed… didn’t occur to me to check there, thank you!

Where would we be without your GC guidance??
