10% off Good Food Gift Cards (Digital/Physical) + $2.95 Physical Delivery @ Card.Gift

GOODFOODGIFT

IMO this is much convenient option as you can just buy online, have digital version which you can load to Apple Pay, Google Wallet or Samsung Wallet, and variable load compared to current 15% off offer for the physical (eftpos) version at Coles albeit for 5% less discount

As per wiki, this should work at:
- Eating Places, Restaurants (MCC 5812)
- Drinking Places (MCC 5813)

and wouldn't work at:
- Fast Food Restaurants (MCC 5814)

Promotion available from 20/11/24 to 24/11/24 (unless sold out prior). Promotion code GOODFOODGIFT offers a 10% discount on all denominations of the Good Food Gift Card (physical and digital) on www.card.gift only.

  • Does this work in Macdonald ?

    • +1

      unfortunately, no

    • +1

No, but it works on Doordash if you want Maccas delivered.

      • Is menuberdash now 5812?

        • I believe they've always been MCC 5812
However, Menulog has been reported to use both 5812 and 5814 (Fast Food) depending where you order from.

          • @wangasm: I thought they were 5814, tried using my cafe choice card at some stage but didn’t work. Maybe I’ll get this one then.

            • +1

@Alley Cat: Cafe choice is supposed to support 5814 anyway, so maybe it was a different issue

              • @wangasm: Yes, Cafe Choice would have worked if they were 5814 too, which is why I asked if they were 5812. Anyhow, it could be the business I tried to place the order from, now that they have groceries and alcohol too.

      • @wangasm, how does this work on doordash pls…

        • The digital version the Good Food gift card is just a Mastercard, so you enter the payment details at checkout just like any other Mastercard. But that means you cannot "load" it all into your account like a gift card, so there is still the issue of any small leftover amounts that will be hard to use.

          • @wangasm: oh got it. So issue with residual amount still remains…I am assuming Door dash doesn't allow split payment, does it

            • @s0805: No split payment. But if you have a gift card balance that doesn't cover the whole order, it will use that and take the remainder from your chosen payment card

    15% off at Coles

    • +8

Only the physical (eftpos) version is currently 15% off at Coles. Coles does not sell the digital (Mastercard) version, and I have not figured out a way you can exchange the physical version for the digital version.

The digital version would be preferable for a lot of people for a number of reasons (even with a lower discount), including:

      • You can store the digital version on a supported mobile wallet (which allows you to make contactless payments in-person or online at merchants that support this). That means you do not need to carry around a physical gift card.

      • You can grab the card details from the TCN app and try to use them directly on a merchant’s website.

      • You can use the digital version at merchants using Square EFTPOS terminals. The physical version cannot be used at merchants using Square EFTPOS terminals, because Square will not process payments on the eftpos network if you swiped the card (and the only way you can redeem the physical version is by swiping it). Considering I have seen a lot of restaurants and cafés use Square EFTPOS terminals, this can be a deal-breaker for the physical version.

      • Can't you store the physical version as a digital card in a mobile wallet and use it like that?

        • +1

nope, can’t be exchanged for digital

        • +1

          No.

You cannot manually enter the gift card details for the physical version into a mobile wallet, because it is not technically possible to do this for a physical eftpos-only gift card.

It is possible to tokenise an eftpos-only gift card (which is evident with the open-loop TCN digital eftpos gift card), but this is a service TCN does not offer for the physical Good Food gift card.

You can use your swap card(s) from this deal if you still have one, to pay for it or part of it.

Enter the discount code first, then the gift card number(s) at checkout.

    • +1

This is an awesome tip for people not super familiar with Card.Gift and how it operates differently from other gift card companies. Saved me from paying another $160 as I had purchased previously from that deal you linked and had not used those gift card codes yet. Thank you!

  • +2

Thanks OP. I like the fact that you can buy a $500 denomination.

    • +1

Exactly, I hate those small denominations card. Still have so many cards leftover with amounts ranging from few cents to few dollars which is hard to use

      • Grill’d will accept as long as over $1.

  • The physical card can only be used at certain restaurants listed at the goodfood website, how about the digital one, can it be used at all Eating Places, Restaurants (MCC 5812) as in the description?

  • How do you use over leftover amounts on these cards? I have tons that are $2-3… negates the savings overtime :(

    • The only way is to ask the restaurant to split payment and telling them the exact amount to charge (taking into account any card fees)

      • or load the remaining on Doordash account, subject to how it works in 1st place…

        • +1

I had an idea of using the leftover amount of the GF Gift card and combining it with an Uber/Doordash Gift Card. Since places like Cashrewards and Amazon let you specify the exact amount on a Uber/DD gift card, you can just get the exact amount you need to combine with the small leftover amount. Eg. The Uber order is $25 and I have $1 left on my Good Food gift card, I can buy a $24 Uber gift card from Cashrewards.

According to the coles GC portal: https://www.giftcards.com.au/ShoppingCart/ProductDetail/Cole…

The Card is a prepaid Mastercard that works at venues that have designated the merchant category code Eating Places, Restaurants (5812), Drinking Places (5813), Hotels, Motels, and Resorts (7011) and Caterers (5811).

Looks like even 7011 and 5811 can also be accepted?

    • +3

Hmmm I am not sure where giftcards.com.au got that information from, because the terms and conditions on the Good Food gift card website says for the physical version:

      1. This Card is a restricted access network gift card that can be used for electronic transactions, to purchase goods and services at selected merchants that have the designated merchant category code ‘Eating Places’ or ‘Drinking Places’. The card is not valid at will not work at venues outside of these merchant category codes. Specifically the card is not valid at venues that are designated by their merchant category code as Fast food or quick service restaurants.

… and for the digital version:

The Card is a Mastercard prepaid card that can be used at venues that have designated the merchant category code Eating Places, Restaurants or Drinking Places.

You could still try using this gift card at a merchant using MCC 5811 or MCC 7011 and see whether it is accepted.

  • Can this essentially be used in the same manner as the Café/Restaurant choice GC?
Edit: ah same same except no Fast Food.

  • +2

Can confirm the digital card is still working at: Eating Places, Restaurants (MCC 5812), not just the places listed on the website (which applies to the physical card). Just paid and was successful. So it's similar to the TCN Pub&Bar card

    • except also no 7997

  • I'd wait for better deals. It usually 15% or 20% off and if you're bothered you can get it for 40% off at whirlpool somehow

    • 40% ??? link?

    • +1

I can smell either cafe choice or restaurant choice is coming with at least 10% off. Last last time had to figure out which restaurant are 5812 and 5813 when using Good Food. Long story short. The chance of being rejected was high for me. Obviously those proper restaurants should be ok. So, 15% is the least to buy for Good Food. But 10% is 10% if you need it now and to stack with EC.

      • EC?

  • EC meaning Eat Club? You can stack with that.

    • Ah i see. I am not used to using EC yet so unfamiliar with the term. So i assume stacking will work only if you choose the merchants that allow pay with Eatclub Pay right? Instead of the ones “Order and Pay in app”

  • Just try at holy basil, didnt work :(

    • It would have left a $0.00 transaction log on your card's history which you can view in the TCN app. If you click on that transaction, it will show which Category (i.e. MCC) of that transaction and would likely explain why this Gift Card got didn't work there.

For example, I tried to use Good Food GC recently at a local restaurant and it got declined by their terminal. Can see in the transaction log that it has Category is 5814 which is the MCC for fast food restaurants.

      • it will show which Category (i.e. MCC) of that transaction and would likely explain why this Gift Card got didn't work there.

That is only true for the Android version of the TCN app.

The iOS version of the TCN app will only show PLACEHOLDER under the Category section (for some weird reason - it has been like this for a long time).

Having said that, does a declined transaction on a TCN Good Food gift card also show the reason for the decline in the Merchant Name/Description section? If so, that should still give the reason the transaction was declined (regardless of whether you are using the iOS or Android versions of the app).

        • +1

Ahh ok, sounds like the iOS version is worse off then.

The transaction log in my TCN app (Android) does give a description of "Card not authorised for this terminal."

For me, seeing that rejected transaction having a Category of 5814 provided a better explanation as to why the card wasn't authorised at that restaurant since I'm aware that it will only work for MCC 5812 and MCC 5813 transactions.

          • @Alinnia: Edit: you are right about the ios app.

Downloading the app for my spare android phone to see the difference.

            • @dbui8743: This is what it looks like for me in the TCN app (Android) when the gift card got declined at a local restaurant:
              https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/42703/117871/screensho…

Although I'm not sure what timezone the TCN app reports in, but it ain't my local time i.e. nope I didn't go to that restaurant at 5:14am.

              • @Alinnia: Ok, i got rejected at 5814. It was a freaking proper restaurant, a laos thai restaurant that is super slow and decently expensive, nothing fast food about it lol.

                • @dbui8743: It happens quite a lot for actual restaurants to put themselves as 5814 for whatever reason, one downside to this card :(

                  • @wangasm: Yeah i got declined recently at Monsterella Wembley WA which is a proper italian restaurant, bit baffled since I this is my first time using this GC. Will avoid it next time, Choice/Rest GC is much better.
iOS, as Wookie mention above only says PLACEHOLDER, it was a SQ terminal, idk if that’s the cause or not

                    • @noelhoi: Is there a declined $0.00 transaction on your TCN Good Food gift card? If so, does it say under the Merchant section Card not authorised for this terminal? If so, it most likely means the merchant was using an MCC not permitted on the gift card (e.g. MCC 5814).

I had a look at the Monsterella Pizza website and menu and they appear to primarily sell pizzas. If you look at the Mastercard definition for MCC 5814, it calls out restaurants primarily selling pizza as something that should use MCC 5814 (and their definition of a "fast food restaurant" appears to be broader than your definition):

Merchants that sell prepared food and beverages for immediate consumption either on the premises or packaged for carry-out. Fast food restaurants may or may not operate a drive-up window for ordering and pick-up, and may or may not provide table service by a waiter or waitress. In any case, orders are paid for at the counter or at a drive-up window. Fast food restaurants include cafes, cafeterias, grills, coffee shops, diners, pizza parlors, sandwich bars or shops, deli shops, and snack shops. If table service is provided, a gratuity may be added to the bill. Such merchants generally do not sell alcoholic beverages.

                      • +1

                        @WookieMonster: your sorcery is commendable

I wouldn’t say they are pizza parlors, they have a seating of 20+ ppl and toilets on site. But, regardless if somehow their setup used MCC 5814 then cannot be helped I guess 🥲
Thanks for the detailed reply WM!
