I just churned mine. One of the decent CC deals out there.

    • Especially if you still hold NABs retired choice package which waive the annual fee for this cc. Paitently waiting to rechurn

    • +2

      Not worth it. $320/yr

      • +5

If there are better CC deals with 90K QFF and less fee, please do let us know. I'm looking for my next card after churning this one and ANZ Black.

        • +1

How about a DC deal? If you spend $40,000/yr on Bankwest Qantas Transaction card, you get the same 120,000 pts, plus 3 pts/$1,0000 balance, and if you deposit +$2000/mo, there's no annual fee. But ofc nothing stops you from having both.

          • +1

@wisdomtooth: Thanks @wisdomtooth but that's a lot of spend. I spend roughly $1500/month on average ($18,000/yr), I would never be able to meet criteria of $40,000/yr. Good deal for high spenders though.

          • +1

@wisdomtooth: are you suggesting you would spend 40k in 1 dollar increments?

          • @wisdomtooth: plus 3 pts/$1,0000 balance?

is this a typo? what do you mean? maybe you can clarify or PM me bro im interested

            • @Mijora1: I'm just relaying what's in the wiki:

3 Qantas Points per eligible purchase and 0.3 Qantas Points for every $100 in your account each day on balances up to $50,000. Must deposit $2000 per month.

              Should've written 3 pts/$1000/day (up to $50,000).

        • +3

90k QFF with $225 first year fee (open a Westpac Transaction account, dep $2000/m).

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/888307

          • @render: This is good one, up there with ANZ Black. However, they make you wait 24 months now and I'm still few months out before I can apply again.

Not applicable if you have held an Altitude Platinum or Altitude Black card with Altitude Rewards, Qantas or Velocity in the last 24 months.

    • just a side question. I need to spend about 20k for a house reno (have the cash) for things like appliances, furniture, misc thing. Am I missing something if I spread this amount across 3-4 credit cards to get the points. I obviously will be paying a few annual fees, but can pay the amount off straight away. Also, apart from the, stay 12 months and get bonus points, how long before you can close down the card and does this impact further deals?

      thanks….

      • You can spread your spend across multiple cards but getting multiple CC approved might be an issue. I usually close down my card within a month of getting bonus points.

  • +7

Bonus Points are not available if you’ve received a NAB Qantas rewards acquisition bonus points offer in the last 18 months.
    This is the stinger.

    • 18 months is harsh… I miss 0-12 months…

      • +9

If you think that’s bad, Westpac and their subsidiary banks are now 24 months.

        • Got bonus points for st george card 16 months after my last st george card, the rules changed a month or so before i applied ( october or so) . Still got it , dont know how.

    • Contact NAB and ask if you're eligible - their system is weird and sometimes it doesn't pick it up.

    • If I cancelled my card last year but it was opened 2 years ago (which is when I received the bonus points last time), I should still be eligible now given that it's been 24 months now?

      • It should be 18 months after you closed your card.

    • -1

Do we know exactly what they deem as "receiving [an …] offer"? This makes a difference.

If I "receive the offer" when I sign up for a new card, then it's not so bad. I can cancel at month 12, and come back 6+ months later.

If I "receive the offer" when I receive the bonus points, then now it's a bit longer.

If I "receive the offer" for as long as I have the card, now I have to wait 18 months after I cancel.

    • +1

Does this mean that if I have a NAB Signature (transfer to Velocity), I can close that off and go straight to this one?

  • does any fellow Ozbargainer have any idea if Qantas Point can be converted to Asia Miles / get flight ticket in Cathay?

    • +1

Converted no. Get reward ticket yes (assuming there is availability… The availability you see on Asia miles won't be the same as what Qantas members can access)

      • thanks mate. was trying to look for sections for conversion but there's none.
Have been sticking with Asia Miles so probably will stick with the ANZ 180k one

  • Will airlines tickets be included in the spend $3000 in the first 60 days ?

    • +1

      Yes

      • +1

But don't airlines charge an Amex surcharge? is it worth it?

    • -3

      any spend

      • +1

Transactions that don’t earn points include: Cash advances, bank charges, balance transfers, buying foreign exchange or travellers cheques, ATO payments, BPAY® payments, transactions where a cardholder uses a card to access linked transaction accounts, and transactions for gambling or gaming purposes.

        • Do you know if crypto exchanges are classed as gambling/gaming by them? If not you could just buy stable coins and then sell once the points have arrived.

          • @Budeman: Buy some during 1st month then check if you get points for that when they issue the statement.

    • +1

      Why wouldn't they?

  • +1

im starting to think ill have to churn between qantas and velocity in the off months when im waiting for a 18/24 month expiry on a card

    • That was me 12 months ago, but Velocity sucks now with Virgin/SQ growing further apart. Best availability with SQ back then, but now we get a pittance of fares. So back to Qantas I go.

Churning sucks these days, especially with the 'earn X points after 12 months!' that nobody actually claims…

If you have a small business (I know not everyone does), start churning those Qantas business reward cards along with personal cards. I've found a good balance between both for 24-36 month rotations.

      • -1

Still got over 1 million points and no idea what to do with them.

        • fly first class to disneyland

        • Sell em for cash

        • +9

          Buy a toaster

        • Look for Classic points options on Emirates through Qantas points. We did a joint Business/First from Dubai to Sydney. This lets you both use the First Class lounge in Dubai. You need to be flexible on when you travel.

          • @try2bhelpful: "flexible on when you travel" makes it hard. That's why finding the QF points are pretty hopeless. Even domestic tickets are harder to come by these days

So far being paying for business flights at own expense.

          • @try2bhelpful: What are the taxes/fees for that?

        • Wow, which airline- Qantas?

      • +6

Virgin have just dropped a load of flights to Doha in business class with Qatar in Q suites (they are saying triple no of award flights). Ive learnt the best point collecting strategy is diversification so collecting Qantas and velocity is a good strategy imo.

        • +3

Personal preferences I guess, not a fan of Qatar's offering and inconsistency across cabins (yes, I know they have the Q Suites guarantee, but that's not useful for non-Q flights in the first place).

At least SQ has lay flat seats on near all regional, and all international configurations; and a much better trained crew/operations.

      • Do you get sign up points if you take a business card from someone you already hold a personal one for? (I know Amex restrict this)

      • If you have a small business (I know not everyone does), start churning those Qantas business reward cards along with personal cards

Dont they assess you on your name, not entity, so regardless your business has the card, your name will still be the one used for eligibility criteria?

        • Most do. But nothing seems to specifically exclude you from getting it in the terms and conditions.

        • Not from what I've found for a few cards. Amex doesn't allow it, but NAB does for instance.

  • Great card. Currently have this for the second time and also keeping it until its anniversary (I have spends and travel insurance requirements that this card covers perfectly).

    • The insurance is actually quite good on this card. International (only need to spend $500 on flights/accom etc to activate) and domestic. Purchase protection (90 days) and extended warranty (only 1 year max though) as well.

      • Worth noting the car hire excess cover is very usable too.

  • -1

Is annual fee charged at the start or conclusion of the relevant year?

    • Charged on first statement.

      • Thank you sir

    • +1

Most of them either charge in first statement or as soon as you activated the card.

  • +7

Premium card with the lower annual fee $195 for 60k points in 1st year
    https://www.nab.com.au/personal/credit-cards/qantas-rewards/…

  • If you had the nab rewards (non Qantas) within 18 months we are still eligible ?

    • +5

      Yes

Bonus Points are not available if you’ve received a NAB Qantas rewards acquisition bonus points offer in the last 18 months.

  • Takes forever to get the points with NAB.

    • Took him nearly a whole additional statement period to credit the points

    • +1

Reached min spend on my first statement and I just received my second statement and still no bonus points. Going to call up tomorrow again to tell them to credit my points (even though it says it could take up to 90 days…)

      • +2

For me it took about 30-40 days to receive points after I got qualified.
They have changed their system to issue points after about 1 month

      • +1

I received an email confirming I have met the min spend criteria and with an ETA for points to be credited after my second statement.

  • If instantly approved do you get the digital card immediately? Need to spend $5500 to pay for a quiz tomorrow

    • Apple/Google pay only unfortunately, will update the post

    • Will get approval instantly ?

      • May be not instantly but at least few hours after submitted application & relevant docs. Very rare cases may be only to whoever have salary into NAB.

    • Need to send payslips for verification or proof of income you state. Takes a day at least for the turn around to Apple wallet activation. I just did this Monday night before seeing this post and full approval came through yesterday and was able to activate on apple wallet last night around 7pm.

You won’t get “instant approval” the way you think, instant essentially means at least a day for Nab from application to approval and then card activation on Apple wallet.

  • +1

I just closed a citi prestige card. Does that have any impact with NAB seeing as they took over the citi business?

    • +3

      no

  • Damn hopefully this is the start of points offers getting better again. With Qantas decreasing classic rewards seats then maybe that will happen ..

    • hey, what do you mean Qantas decreasing classic rewards seats?

      • +1

Classic Plus replacing Classic awards on in-demand routes in premium cabins — 2x to 4x more expensive.

  • +1

Sorry but this is a pretty poor AF/bonus point ratio.

    ANZ would pip this.

  • HI, will get approval instantly or need to submit support documents?

    • Do you bank with NAB? Never heard an unsecured loan can get approved instantly without any verification by a human.

You may get ”conditional approval" first.

      • i mean conditional approval only.

    • I was approved with no documents within 5 hours of submission. I use NAB for my everyday banking, but not for assets.

$320 for 90k points? How far have we fallen to think this is a good deal?

Are the QFF cards really just this bad right now?

Not only is it extremely hard to get classic rewards flights right now, but accruing the points is getting really expensive.. Feels like the end of QFF point churn.

    • +1

I tend to agree. ANZ Visa card is 90k points for $220 (once $200 refunded) IIRC.

Agree classic flights rewards are harder than ever to find - but still possible. Recently booked Europe around school holidays - but it took 3 seperate bookings (Finnair excellent availability) and going via HKG rather than SIN and then 2 seperate one-way Qantas flights. And didn't get the exact return dates needed. So yeah, sux

      • +2

I am not that old, but still remember deals 2-3y back when 90k points card was with 0 fee for first year…

      • +5

This card used to be 100k points for $195

        • Covid times were good for CC deals- that ship has sailed now!

          • +2

@Craze: That wasn't even a good deal during Covid times. Anz did 160k points for $170 during covid.

      • Yeah I managed to get Europe, after days of searching.. But zero flights to London, and very few flights on Qantas. Going frankfurt & Amsterdam with partner airlines.

Cleared out my points now, so honestly if this is what we're getting right now I think I'll change what I churn for. I'll take a look at velocity..

        • +1

I've booked flights from Singapore to Frankfurt using velocity. That's my approach, having feet in both camps. Use Qantas for South Africa and Pacific islands, velocity for Europe

    • Yep, wasn't that long ago that there were regular deals where the first year fee was waived.

    • +1

The golden days of churning are well behind us.

  • Doesn't your credit report get hit when you churn credit cards?

    • Yup. I think it's 6 months churn cycles to avoid a large hit?

      • +2

        I did 8 last year, doesn't matter.

    • +3

Yeah but why does that matter?

Credit score itself doesn't really matter in AU. Credit history does. The impact credit card churning does to your credit file is negligible

      • Right. My mortgage broker told me otherwise though.

Like the current bank I am with wanted a really good score or something?
