I mean, I'm just a rando smooth brain ape on the internet - so don't take my word for it. But I got my mortgage after 4 years of cycling cards every 3-4 months.

Can't say I've pushed it as far as Phesto. 8 in a year is a pretty incredible feat.

          • @mahdoo: There were some really easy ones like NAB - 1k spend, citibank - easily hit min spend with payall etc.
I've pretty much run out of decent options now though

    • It goes back up when you close the card.

    • +2

Hasnt effected mine negatively whatsoever. I have 2 mortgages and am constantly churning cards. First class return to Japan in March, thank you very much.

      • Which airline

        • Japan Airlines

  • Also combined well with the long balance transfer deal they have once you’ve hit the spend (though I think that now attracts a fee)

  • Does anyone know if NAB still refunds you the annual fee for the months you didn't use? I had churned a card from them a couple years ago and they refunded me 10 months worth of fees when I cancelled it after 2 months

    • My NAB banker tells me no.
Might be better to go for the NAB Rewards card (monthly $24 charge vs annual fee) - refunded if you spend $5k monthly. Points can convert to Flybuys and others.

    • From my experience, NAB changed their policy to only enable pro-rata refunds once you are into your second year with the card. Last time I paid the second annual fee (to get the extra 30k points) then cancelled it to get the second year refunded pro-rata.

      • Ah that's a bummer, last time I was able to do it through the web chat. Thanks!

I've held this card for 20 months, can I just cancel and get a new one to receive the points or do I need to not hold the card for 18 months?

I did get the 12 month bonus only 8 months ago

    • +2

I know how you got the Dur in your name

    • This bonus Qantas Points offer is not available to existing customers who have received or are entitled to receive NAB Qantas Rewards bonus points for a new personal NAB Qantas Rewards credit card in the 18 months prior to the opening of a NAB Qantas Rewards Signature Card or NAB Qantas Rewards Premium Card. This advertised offer of bonus points is not applicable or valid in conjunction with any other advertised or promotional offer.

I know lawyer's words from NAB aren't that clear, some may read it as "if you received the points 18 months ago, but still kept the same NAB card active, then if you close and reapply, you should be qualify to for the bonus points".

But, since I'm a simple person, I rather closed it ASAP after received the points then lay low for 18 months before apply new one.

90k for $320 AF does not seem great

Where can we use Qantas Points?

    • +4

      Qantas website

      • I mean only for booking flights? or anything worth to spend? Like for instance Velocity FF can be used to redeem gift cards.

  • Long time lurker, very little commenting so take it easy on me :) I need to spend $3K before the 29th of January. How long will it take to recive the physical card? as I see there is no digital card….

is the westpack offer better? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/888307 ? $6K in 4 months, which i can do and have a digital card

    • +1

Not sure about NAB but with wetpac you get the digital card pretty much straight away and i have generally received the physical card within a week (in Sydney)

      • +1

If you have the NAB card (ie existing customer), you'll see the card available once approved. You can add to your wallet to pay by tap - not online purchases.

    • Westpac digital card means you can start spending immediately. I wish other banks did it

  • signed up for this bad boy $20k approved on the spot, 120k points is nice based only only 3k spend.

    • 120k points is nice based only only 3k spend.

But also at a cost of $740 worth of fees to get the full 120k?

    • +1

General consensus is to close credit card once you get the introductory points. Holding this card for 12 months to pay $420 to get 30k points is not worth it. Better to wait the 18 months and pay $320 to get 90k points again. Ofc this is assuming the long running deal is still active or maybe a better deal will replace it.

  • Churned this! Good card and straight forward, not hiding stuff like CBA. Highly recom

Min credit limit is $15k. I'm guessing a substantial income is required, maybe even employment, to get approved?
Was thinking of applying before seeing that.
Need to find a way of getting and churning with no employment and low income. Dreaming?

    • Dreaming?

Yep. Why not go for one of the lower cards with $6k minimum credit limit?

      • Why not go for one of the lower cards with $6k minimum credit limit?

Still a challenging (or impossible) to get approve if have no regular fixed income.

  • Do they refund some of the annual fee if you close the card after say 3 months?

  • Will rent count towards the $3000 spend?

    • Only if you use specialised services like Sniip. I'm yet to try it myself, but there were lots of previous comments/posts that it works.

    • +1

Not without additional fees. Alternatively, you can request up to 3 (maybe 4) free additional cards for family members. It shouldn’t be too hard to spend $375 a week between all of you. If that fails, you can buy a woolies or amazon gift card or whatever and spend that on your own pace.

  • Minimum credit limit: $15,000
Is it correct though, that's pretty high min credit limit??

    • +1

Black & Signature level credit cards are generally for "higher end" customers so it comes with a high min credit limit. The premium version of this card is only $6k but also comes with fewer QFF points

Just be care of using this CC overseas as it dose have intl transcation fees. I was confused by the wording on NAB website and thought the NAB rewards signature CC is the same thing as this one..

  • New to churning. If I cancel the card within 20 days but hit the limit do I still get the points? Reading the PDS there's nothing that makes me think no, but just want to check.

    • +4

No.. usually you will get the points on the second statement. Never close an account before the points are transferred to your qantas account.

      • Thanks

      • Made this mistake on my first churn, only got half the points. Be warned!

        • +1

You closed the account before received the bonus points? Oh man

          • @timhn: It was a mistake on my part but it was also pretty crappy on their part. It was my first churn, virgin flyer, they give the bonus points in two instalments - first month $1500 paid off they give 30k VFF, second month $1500 paid off another 30k VFF, but the first card was lost in the post so I couldn't actually spend in the first period. I got contradictory advice from customer service but someone assured me that I would get the points in the third month of spend. After 4 months with everything paid off, I closed it, only to discover that they had never given me the second tranche of points. I complained but because I had already closed the card, they said they couldn't give me the points.
On the plus side, they refunded the annual fee on that one.
But yeah it was a painful lesson - get the points before you close, and never trust customer service.

Before everyone goes and signs up for more Qantas points, I received this in my email just now:

The number of points required for Classic Flight Rewards on Jetstar short haul domestic flights in Australia and New Zealand will be reduced by 11 per cent.

The number of points required to book all other Classic Flight Rewards and Classic Upgrade Rewards will increase by up to 20 per cent. The increases to reward seats will be applied across our domestic, international and partner airline networks with increases to upgrades only applying to the Qantas network.

    Starting from 5 August 2025.

  • Can anyone share their experience getting the points? I hit 3k start of the month, just got my statement, no bonus yet. NAB were usually efficient in my experience.

  • The second year fee ($320) was charged on 3 JAN but I haven't seen the second batch of 30K points. How long does it take for it to come in from people's experience?

  • I understand the bonus points will take some time to arrive but say I spend $3k on the first week do I get 3k points immediately or will it be after the first statement as well?

    • They come in at at the time of statement.

So not like you spend $20 and get 20 QFF next day to Qantas account. It all is transferred in one lump sum at end of month/statement.

      • Ah okay thank you!

  • Applied for this on 14 Feb after ANZ rejected my Rewards Black application. Approved just now.
