Mixed reviews on the brand apparently.

Getting better value thease portable power stations.

    • +9

100%. Makes you look at a UPS and go "what the?" for some of the prices they are asking.

      • Apparently there is a UPS mode on some of the Power Stations, Blueltetti have it, but hit hit and miss per model it can supply power quicker after a power outage.
Here is one post about it - https://www.reddit.com/r/bluetti/comments/14x19f7/bluetti_eb…

Looking at my Cyberpower UPS that was a similar price to this, with some good old lead acids in it.

  • Any comments on VTOMAN brand?

    • +5

@King Tightarse says they arent as reliable, sourcing the fb groups

    • +4

My experience has been terrible. Would not recommend. No physical address/ABN to be able to honour their requirements.

First unit failed in less than a month. Replacement failed and they refuse to refund. Don't even return calls/messages/emails.

      Would avoid.

  • +9

Wait until the voltx is back for $350 or so, IMO. 500+wh and 800w output from a better known brand.

    • Agree 300wh is not much. Actual usable energy will be more like 250wh - 260wh.

  • +10

Bluetti AC2A flash sale at $179 is probably a better option. But its 204wh only.

    https://www.bluettipower.com.au/products/bluetti-ac2a-portab…

I decided not to buy it as my Kings 24ah 307wh is 1/3rd the size and does the job for me.

    • +1

Hmmm….really limited by the 300w continuous too. And the 204wh. I have a 500w Dometic inverter hooked to a little 30ah lithium battery and I really don't use it much as it can't do very much for very long. That's what made that Yard Force deal so spectacular. And at least this VTOMAN is 600w.

    • oh thanks for this, 230v 200wh is all I need, and this is perfect for my use case. I missed the last one, thinking it will not back this early.
I also have king 24ah, but it only 12v and I don't want to invest on inverter as I am not car camper.

      • Can I ask what you are using it for?

        • I am camper, but walk / hike / bike to the site. The primary use is just for rice cooker, as I am not able to cook perfect rice on camp stove.

          • +2

@mfu: From my understanding, these portable battery packs are quite heavy and can be awkward to carry around, not sure how you'll manage to carry one of these while hiking.

            • +1

@nomadspartan: This Bluetti is 3.6kg to replace my existing Kings that is 3kg, so the weight is not really issue.
The size probably is the issue. Hope it can fit in my 100L backpack.

            • @nomadspartan: Thats the very reason to use a portable LiFepo4 powerbank instead of these power stations if your needs are simple.
The Kings 24Ah 307wh is 1/3rd the size but obviously has much less cycle life, only 60w/120w output,no 240V,only 1 year warranty etc

              • @techno2000: What are the charge cycle numbers?

                • +2

@zealmax: 1000 cycles for Kings and 3000 cycles for Bluetti
1 year warranty for Kings vs 5 years warranty for Bluetti as well.

                  • @techno2000: I saw a tear down of the Kings Units and they cheaped out and bizarrely did not use conformal coating (protective layer) on the BMS circuit board. This will limit their lifespan and makes them very NOT moisture resistant.
They are definitely a good and useful product but the question is: how long will they last?

    • +1

Anyone know if the AC2A does some sort of AC passthrough/bypass and could be used as a UPS replacement? (e.g. for home networking gear)

      • +2
        • +2

Yep - but it doesn't indicate whether it does AC passthrough/bypass (i.e. if you leave it plugged into AC permanently does it stop trying to charge the battery when full and just pass the AC through from source to output bypassing the inverter/etc) - some of the other Bluetti models state this (e.g. the AC50B and others)

          • +1

@Remorhaz: If it isn't stated, I would say it doesn't do it then…… But for $180, you could buy it and try.

            • @geekcohen: I'm not sure how you'd tell even if you had the unit - it would power the output but you wouldn't be able to tell whether the power is going direct from AC input to output or via the inverter - the end result is the same (as in power comes in and power goes out) but the difference is that the inverter being driven 24x7 would likely shorten it's life

          • +1

@Remorhaz: There are some reviews that test the AC2A as a UPS, eg. https://youtu.be/hU-d9NzFSBA

            • +1

@heysi: Thanks - looks good - Flash sale pricing is great - I've ordered one

    • I have a 100ah lifepo4 12v sitting around in a box. If I wire up a XT60PM-M connector on heavy gauge wire, is it basically a case of plug that into the DC input to extend the capacity of this power station?

      • Should work. I plugged in a 6s lipo (22.2v) directly via xt60 on the bluetti. Charged it fine at 200w for about 30mins until depleted.

Just make sure you monitor the battery levels or it'll suck it dry. I over discharged my lipo and some cells fell below 3.2v which probably hurt it abit.

        • Supposedly my lifepo4 has protection via the built in BMS. So am I right to assume the battery would cut itself off once the voltage drops below the threshold?

          • @anthman: Yeah if it has a BMS with low voltage cut off then it should shut off once it hits the set low voltage.

      • You can do this but it is not particularly energy efficient.
IE by feeding your 100Ah battery into the solar input you are losing some conversion efficiency on the way in as it charges

        • I see. Is it possible to add wires inside the chassis to wire the external battery in somehow? Like running it in parallel or adding a switch to change the batteries that are "live"?

          • @anthman: Not really, because each battery pack has a separate BMS expecting an exact number of cells, voltage and capacity.
It would work with old lead acid batteries but these are different

  • +5

I have one of these (or maybe the last version as it's a different colour?)

Here are my use cases and how it's faired so far….

    1) 75L dual chamber camp fridge (has a 80w 240v power brick)
    - based on the speed the battery metre was going down, it reported approx 8 hrs run time.
    - given the fridge/freezer was already cold and stacked full with cold items, it only had to maintain the cold - so ran for maybe 20 hrs easily in a mild climate

    2) power outage - running office gear
    - I had a mbp, 34" ips screen and extra accessories running for 6hrs
    - battery was pretty low when I finished, but hey - I had a 34" screen during a power out!

The only missing function (on my version) is UPS capability. Right now it just sits on the shelf when not in use - it would be perfect if I could use it as a ups on my home server/router/modem when I'm home, and there's no other use for it.

For this price, I think it's worth having around the house and doing short camp trips with

    • How long do they hold charge for when not in use? Do you just leave it fully charged and grab it as needed (and it holds pretty much the full charge?)

      • +1

You shouldn't really keep any type of lithium battery at full charge while storing for extended periods.

    • $645.99 with JAN15OFF
      $607.99 with JAN20OFF

      • If you are willing to pay that much and want a lot of capacity, VoltX which is probably better quality is having a sale now.

        • +1

Is the VoltX gonig for around the $600 mark with 1400Wh? They are heaps more expensive by the looks of it.

          • +3

@Calvin27: VoltX M2000 1536wh can be bought for $799.20 on ebay plus.
            https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/296711608729

            • @techno2000: I wonder how good the VoltX M2000 is. I just bought the M3000 / 3000w/3024wh model and it doesn't appear to have true UPS mode - i.e. it's still using the inverter, constantly charging, and has a very noisy fan so not ideal..

            • @techno2000: OMFG sold.
really appreciate the heads up, Techno2000!

  • -1

Could this run something like this for 3-4 days? Or would I need larger/additional power from solar?

    • Doubt it because it only has 299Wh (or 25Ah in 12V) capacity, definitely needs additional power from solar input.

    • Yes it will power it, but when you put the fridge on, make sure it is already cold. But 3-4 days might be a bit much. I would also suggest getting a solar blanket and/or panel. Always safe to be sorry, and if you are in one spot for a few days and have sun, then why not keep it charged?

Also, I hope your fridge has a cover, that helps with efficiency.

      • Freezing a few 2 litre bottles of water and setting the fridge to 4 degrees has my 50l waeco very power efficient. I use it as an assisted esky for those camping trips where we take the wife's car which only has a single battery.

    • +1

You'd be lucky to get one day with a 45L.fridge. A 45L.fridge will draw about 25-30Ah a day. Even at 0 degree for efficiency. This battery pack is a one day pack at best.

    • +2

That says 4.6A at 12V, that's 55.2W max? This battery has 299Wh, assuming 90% efficient that's 269Wh usable, divide by 55.2W is 4.87 hours. Best case scenario it uses a lot less power in fridge mode, maybe last 10 hours?

    • +1

In my opinion, you will most likely get about 10 - 14 hours without insulation cover. It also depends on ambient temperature and efficiency of the compressor.

I have 976wh Yard Force that lasts just over 2 days while powering myCoolman 47L fridge with insulation cover. I pre-cool food & drinks before transferring to the portable fridge.

      • Now that 976Wh Yard Force was a much better deal at under $200. This deal pales in comparison.

  • Project Farm tested! (granted 110V)

  • charge tesla or nah? (real q)

    • Minimum charge rate from an AC inverter is 6A. At 230V, that is 1380W.

      This can output 600W.

      Won't work.

Even if you could convert 299 Wh from this battery into a Tesla, you might get an extra 1km or 2km at most, as the efficiency of a Tesla Model 3 is somewhere between 100Wh and 200Wh per km.

    • -3

      Honestly……. what a stupid question.

      • I disagree.

Could be used for emergencies in a similar way to having a small jerry can full of petrol, or potentially trickle charging a Tesla over a couple days combined with solar panels when camping.

    • Even the smaller LiFePO battery on a Tesla is about 60,000Wh and this power station only has 299Wh, so why bother carrying it to top up 0.5% of Tesla's battery? XD

  • +1

Managed to get it for $239.99 using one of their other links. Was going to share here but the listing ended as soon as I put the order through. Let's see if they honour it

  • +2

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/315205937139 - was searching to 20% off ebay plus sale and found this for $579 shipped - 1200w / 1280wh LiFePO4 - has UPS mode, 1.5hrs fast charge and an app - never heard of the brand but specs look fairly good for the price

    • This definitely is better deal on paper when looking at $$ vs wh. Review looks good.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8IceCT0tR8

      • A little more searching in the comments and it appears that it has battery protection in the app to allow a max charge to be set similar to the Ecoflow devices so ideal for battery longevity if using as a UPS also. I just watched the same review!

        • You should post it as a deal.

          • @dealhunter52: There's only 5 left available so probably not worth the effort hence replying to this post
