I could be wrong, but I don't remember seeing ASUS ROG laptops with RTX 4070 at these price levels recently. I myself have one with RTX 4060 bought for $2000 and I thought that was a deal… So far no issues and happy with the laptop.

I just happen to notice yesterday on the Lenovo AU website that Legion RTX 4070s are sold out, so if anyone's looking for a 4070 laptop might be useful.

  • How many in stock?

    • No idea TBH it says Asus Store, sold and delivered by Amazon AU, we can only guess

Cool. Was curious because it says unavailable for me thanks to Amazon's latest round of restrictions (I live regional).

        • Is there a pickup point somewhat close by you can select instead? Or does it work off your address?

  • Good price, would love this in white.

  • Why this laptop is good?

  • +2

Zephyrus series has pretty premium build quality and is lighter than a lot of other 15" as well.

    • +1

and doesn't fall apart or have component issues like 50% of the Lenovos I've bought…

Isn't this one that blows hot air right into the screen and back at your face?

      • +1

Can attest to that, the way the air vents are positioned it blows air into the screen. Also Asus screens have horrible quality control, I got one from JB and had backlight bleeding and one from Centrecom also had it and at that point I don't care anymore. It's a great laptop to do anything on but in terms of heavy gaming, you are better off with a Lenovo Legion chunky one. It's slim, light and very good battery life, was able to get more than 12 hours off using the ryzen CPU cause of the MUX switch. I recommend people use G-helper instead of armoury crate [Bloatware] and can easily control power consumption

HODL for 50 series, if nothing else it should see prices drop even further.
Better specs (much better cpu/double the ram/double the storage) have been available for cheaper in the past: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/871103

Why not just hodl for the 60 series or the 70 series? Never understand the hodl comments - i still remember seeing them for Nintendo Switch deals about 5 years ago - and the new one is only likely to get announced next week. Thats a long hodl period.

Tech is always getting better so buy what you can at the best price you can when it best suits

      • -2

Because 50 series are coming in march and retailers will be clearing 40 series stock? happened with the 30 series/20 series/10 series

        • +15

Hence why the laptop in the deal is nearly discounted 40% ?

          • -2

@BLB1984: Maybe because it shouldn't cost its full amount in the first place.

        • -1

Yeah bro, dunno if the comments responding to you are heavily astroturfed and you're just getting brigaded but an RTX 4070 laptop for $2.3k isn't that good. I got the RTX 3080 laptop three years ago for about the same price. So I'd hold out for the RTX 5000 series as well. No rush as the RTX 4070 is poorly received anyway, moreso the laptop version.

Nah man, I’m waiting for the 80 series. It’s only a shiny snakeskin jacket away from release.

    • Wrong. They just become harder to source, and those that do drop further become severely limited as they are discontinued.

And wrong again. Comparing apples to oranges and items that cater to completely different segments.

The TUF is for gamers and is budget oriented in construction. Bulkier and heavier as well and has more conventional cooling systems.

The Zephyrus is aimed at gamers who are also professionals, and need something more thinner, lighter and more premium in finish. The display is also vastly superior and suited for professional work. Has better connectivity features as well for the professional. Better cooling solutions.

Comparing the Camry to an S-Class. Both ultimately perform the same function, but have very different applications, use cases and experiences.

      • This, but the higher end components and chassis also ends up being more reliable from a maintenance perspective - it wins in almost every area [unlike the S-class].

Too many noobs on school holidays pumping the ASUS tax

  • Nah, the RTX 3070 fell to these prices as well. I got the RTX 3080 for 2500 on sale three years ago.

  • +4

Says $3799 for me. Is it expired?

  • So much money for asus?

    • Asus aren't bad.

Decent 4070's have already hit $1.9K so you'd have to be pretty desperate to pay the ASUS tax and roll the dice with their infamous support for $2.3K:

The RTX 5050 Mobile has also been confirmed with 8GB GDDR7 which is a huge jump over the 4050

So now, unless a 6GB 4050 or 8GB 4060/4070 laptop is 30% less than OzB all time low, it's not a deal

    RTX 50 series laptop range:

    5090 Laptop 24GB GDDR7 = 5080 Desktop 16GB performance with extra 8GB VRAM
    5080 Laptop 16GB GDDR7 = 5070 Ti Desktop 16GB performance
    5070 Ti Laptop 12GB GDDR7 = 5070 Desktop 12GB performance
    5070 Laptop 8GB GDDR7 = unannounced 5060 Desktop 8GB performance
    5060 Laptop 8GB GDDR7 = unannounced 5050 Desktop 8GB performance
    5050 Laptop 8GB GDDR7 = mobile exclusive

Your bias against Asus is unreasonable and childish at this point. This is a site for bargains, not for you to wage your war against people posting deals on a brand that you dont like.

You keep liking to quote Jarrod and others when it suits your narrative but convinently ignores the fact that both these 'decent 4070s' of the neo 16 and aorus 16x have only ranked B tier in his 2024 tierlist with the aorus 17 using a cut down aorus 17x chassis got a B in his 2023 tierlist. None of the other Acer nor Gigabyte gaming laptops fared better through out the last several years.

This is in sharp contrast to Asus' zephyrus line of products consistently scoring either A or S tier, this particular 'G16' here is definitely not the 2024 G16 model (A tier), but rather a mix of 23' M16 (again, A tier) hardware (13th gen, 40 series) using 2022 M16 chassis (also an A tier in his 2022 tierlist).

Your speculation around new GPU performance is also complete bollocks, '5090 laptop = 5080 performance with extra vram' - where did you got that from? You do realise a maxed out 175w 4090 mobile is only around a 4070Ti Super level of performance (same vram as well) and desktop cards got actual headroom for oc esp with better models. Stop kidding yourself.

This deal is definitely not amazing price wise, but considering the zephyrus' unique advantage of being a premium thin n light gaming laptop, there is not a whole lot of competitors at this price range and if one have the need for one this is more than a good deal.

  • Intel makes the best CPUs, especially the 13th and 14th generations.
