Excepting the case that google have changed the price point of pixels though. They started out very affordable.
Not arguing their value now, but it’s definitely changed from what it was.I miss the Nexus pricing
Can't compare nexus to pixel range.
They should have a budget friendly line too but for some stupid reason, heavily inflated prices are a norm
@Kiro: Seems like the first 6 or so entries in the line may have been a loss leader to establish market share, now that they have it they can charge what they wanted.
@Commodore64: Mabye, but I paid near $1700 for my 7 pro 5 12GB, they are expensive as now though I think that was a lot of money.
@7wig: The As are pretty expensive vs what they used to be too now, kinda goes for all phones but google seem to charge top tier prices for mid-upper tier phones nowadays
Yeah not good value at all now that they have adopted the apple pricing system. Can still be had pretty cheaply with some of the JB deals and hacks, but I just ended up getting an S24U last time (and have been on ~pixel since the Nexus 6p).
$999 was about the right price for a pixel and they aren't 100x better or anything these days but the software has improved.
yep they can only charge what we are willing to pay. stop paying them if you don't like it. the mobile market is not quite monopolised like other products we have so plenty of choices.
Any bargain motorola or xiaomi?
How dare you speak sense and be rational here? Flood in the down votes!
That's getting closer to the Xperia 1 VI price, and they manage to still provide a headphone jack, sd card slot, and raw unprocessed photography.
Pixel phones are great, but that price is creeping up faster than expected.
Yeah agreed. You might as well comment on the iPhone's post which costs $1.6k.
If you consider the storage only, an older phone can cost under $500. The iPhone SE refurb costed $169 at Coles the other day.
I'd say people shouldn't spend over $1k on a phone just for making a call. The pricy phone with lots of functions that they never use. As long as people still buy them at these prices, the phone companies have no reason not to make the money.
Google started to flash out the price on their 1yo phones to $687 which is a good sign for the phone market, while it also hurts the 2nd hand market for all pixel users.
I'd say people shouldn't spend over $1k on a phone just for making a call.
These days, phones are handheld personal computers people carry and use 24/7. It's one of the most vital and frequently used devices in our daily lives. I say $1k+ is pretty reasonable, especially if you intend to keep it for more than 2 years. I've found 3 years is fine, 4 if it's a good phone - by 5 the battery will be knackered.
Most upvoted comment is that a flagship phone should be 1.3k lmao. Is this 2015?
I switched over to this phone from Samsung, pricing this at 80-90% of Samsung is absolutely fine.Flagships in 2015 cost under $1k, and had more features than current ones. You don't even get a wall plug in the box anymore.
Pixel 8 pro is only valued at 400 trade in.
The email from google specficially mentions up to $800 trade-in for google pixel 7 pro and apple 14 pro phones
$1,000 on Pixel 9 Pro Fold plus get $150 Google Store credit.
Thats a worse deal that pre order at jbhifi. Trade in bonus was $1000 + the trade in value.
Save $400, get $150 credit, and the trade-in value is $1000 compared to $500. Actually, it’s not worse.
@jimojr: First of all you will have to trade in a 7 pro, prelaunch didn't have that condition.
Assuming let's say it is 7 pro, normal trade in value is $400-500 I think. So 2699-1000-400, that's 1299 so yes after the phone being out for a few months, you might save yourself some store credit.
sold mine to monster mobile for $480 not long ago (P8 128GB).
128GB 16GB RAM
now its samsung's turn
Most of the extra RAM is reserved exclusively for AI..
My pixel 7a is valued at 200AUD. I seem to have missed the boat to upgrade via trade-in for now…
This.. Ready to offload the 7a but trade in value gone to shit. Not sure what to go with.
Works with Pro 8 Pro as well
Should be 9 Pro not 8 Pro.
Whoops, fat finger. Corrected, thank you!
Fold 4 512gb trade in is only $400 !!
Yeh cuz fold 4 is bad (I've had two that I've had to be fixed under warranty). No issues with Fold 5 though so far
Im having the hinge locked issue and got another 12 months warranty. Did Samsung end up replacing or giving a different phone after your second warranty repair?
They gave me a new one (2nd one) but that one failed too. So they gave me a third new one and I sold that.
Both times the main screen stopped working after no damage.
@killingtime: Mine has been going good until the hinge locked (which i realised now is a common issue for fold 4). Problem is i can't send it for warranty repair as i have no back up phone. Let see if samsung 25 ultra launch offers better trade in value.
@Rsg: I also had that problem of no phone. I had to make do with a cheapie $200 one while it got repaired.
Any experience trading in a non working phone?
When I submit the trade-in request, it says if the phone is evaluated and not in the condition that I have indicated, then they will send it back to me and charge the discounted amount.
Thanks, I suspect that's the case, but some of these companies don't even inspect it and just accept it. Sounds like google is a bit more thorough.
$400 for a cracked screen on a 7 Pro, so god knows what a non-working one would be.
a lot of money in exchange for 7 Pro. I would have considered swapping with my 6 Pro but only $400 in exchange for it and a $100 for the Mrs. Pixel 6a.
Waiting for JB Bonus Trade-in deal
I have a feeling that the "hidden detail" is in the condition.. People will be sending a phone in thinking they are going to get the full $800 and they will come back with something much much lower… basically a bait and switch… "We have assessed your phone and found the offer to be $329" and then if you dont agree, there will be a $89 return fee.
Exactly this. Those appraisal companies can make whatever subjective call they want.
Always better to just sell your phone privately. Net net it's potentially less hassle.
Let me get this straight on this deal;
So Google, want to charge $849 and trade in a ~2 year old flagship for a 128gb flagships?
Flip this pitch for Samsung
Buy a S25 ultra for $849 and trade in s23 Plus/ultra at 128gb - hard sell, pitchfork time
I hate all of this jumping through the hoop to get an acceptable priceWhere?
agreed, why so many hoops
Where are you getting samsung s25 ultra for $849?
Imagine a deal that is so mediocre, in a mediocre world filled with mediocrity.
Now, stop imagining
Its frustrating as my 7 pro is 512 GB and the extra memory is valueless?
What's the usual price for a new flagship if you're trading in the previous year's flagship?
There's only one jv bro.
Don’t forget to stack with 15% off student beans.
More sure if the mega request thread is still alive but: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/833796
Z1M5OMUT25ZOVHRTTKP4GM3 15% XL comment if used thanks!
You can't use the code as the phone is already discounted and you can't stack codes.
You can
No you can't, it's either code or the normal discount, not both.
@jimojr: Harvey Norman price $1,748 is higher than Google Store price $1,571.65 with 15% discount.
Google Store calculates the refund amount after shipping. They compare Harvey Norman price.to what you paid after any discount.
@jimojr: How does the price match with Harvey Norman combined with the 15% discount work out better?
@jimojr: Did you get 10% discount store credit , while in checkout , or after the payment
As i am google one member but do not c that future extra 10% store credit
please advise
DT@Flakuciernie63: Yes, I get an extra 10% credit. What plan are you on? You won't get extra credit if you're on a trial.
@jimojr: Aye , just realised that doesnt apply to trials…
will sign for one month then , on another account
Peace
Code stacking hasn't worked already for a while :(
Teach me your ways.
Galaxy event is closeee
You Reckon they will have good tradein deals for a pixel 7 pro if I go for the s25 ultra ?
My pixel 7 was only quoted for $300
Gonna skip this one and wait for JB next promotion
It's right in the title of the post, "…with Pixel 7 Pro Trade-in"
For those negging, op edited their post asking why the trade-in make for their 7 non pro wasn't the full value
first pixel phone i didn't buy…too expensive…still on my p8 pro
Waiting till next years pixel with snapdragon
My pixel 7 pro has a cracked screen, maybe I should take the deal even if the retake would give me only $400 … damn why are the screen replacements still so expensive
Same boat had a 7pro, screen cracked, so I got it replaced by google’s official repairer - paid IIRC close to $750-850 due to additional add ons like insurance when they send it back etc - which I personally think is abysmal - it should just be included.
Anyway, got it back and I suspect it was a botched job because the screen cracked in the same place a few weeks later (and it was in my pocket when it happened, it wasn’t dropped or anything). I cbf dealing with them no more - so didn’t bother with it - as the initial process was cumbersome.
Went back to iPhone the very next year as the entire process of fixing a Google phone was a negative experience for me. I’ve previously had iPhones and when something has happened that required fixing, it was sorted quickly at a store.
Now my pixel is sitting in the drawer, will likely sell it on marketplace but haven’t got around to it.
I miss the camera on pixel so much, but not worth going back until I at least move to Melbourne (where the official repairer is).
I wanted to fix my own phone but last time I checked they charged $500 for the 7 pro screen. So I still have a cracked screen ;(
Galaxy S25+ vs Pixel 9 pro XL
What do you guys reckon?pixel chip is shit
s25 will have SD eliteI like how you and a few others keep saying the chip is shit, exactly how does the chip affect you by being 'shit'?
For one, Some people have issues with the crap modem.. Poor cell signal is annoying, also causes battery drain.
@bohn: Mobile signal strength so bad that I got 3.5 hours SoT on my Pixel 8a, with 67% of my battery use being mobile reception, without even making a phone call or sending or receiving an SMS.
That's also with the phone sitting on WiFi for over 2/3's of a given day, it would even drain 8% overnight with 98% battery use being mobile reception while connected to WiFi.
I've NEVER had a phone with a battery this bad, and if it didn't have this garbage modem in it, it would have been close to the ideal phone for me.
For reference an iPhone 12 with 83% battery health lasts for over 7 hours SoT with same usage case, and it's renown for being the series of iPhone with the worst battery life.
Whichever is selling for $1,000 or less, first.
Just switched from the samsung to P9PXL, no regrets at all. I'd take that over the 25 plus easily. Ultra would be more comparable.
I've got a pixel 7 pro and I've just had an issue where water got into the camera. It still works but there's a few smudged on the inside of the lens.
Does anyone know if it's possible to trade it in or do they do some detailed checking on it? I've never done it before
PCS will only return your phone if the Post-Inspection Value is not at least 75% of the Conditional Trade-In Value. In the worst-case scenario, you would still receive a trade-in value of $600.
Worst title ever…..
Good price for the pixel 7 pro. I have a pixel 8 and only getting offered $300
Did they introduce a Pro XL? I just looked at the range and to get a larger screen buying Pro is no longer enough. Have to pay even more for an XL now :(
The XL was always the cheaper of the two.
At these sorts of prices I'd be sticking with the Pixel 7 Pro you already have until the end of its software update life.
Somehow flagship phones charge more and more between generations for tiny amounts of incremental improvement.
If you really must have the newest shiny then I guess you do you, but for latest and greatest performance why are you even buying the Pixel line at all when it's still based on second-tier Exynos-based chips.
Beats me.Get to EOFY, I can see this being $500.
LOL sure
RRP is trash.
Base storage is trash.
CPU is second class.
How google thinks they can charge flagship pricing is beyond me.
i have XL Pro and can add some points
battery life is poor
lots of bags, lugging, freezing
customization very limitedfor 800-900 price is ok. but for 1,5k i expected the flagship experience
Can someone explain why the Pixel 7 Pro trade in is DOUBLE the value of the Pixel 8 Pro trade in?
- Pixel 7 Pro = $800
- Pixel 8 Pro = $400
???
Probably to get you to consider trading your Pixel 8 Pro for $1000 towards the Fold instead.
Nobody knows! 😜

Should be that price without trade-in, $1350 phone with 128gb. Ridiculous.
