Seems to have everything I'm looking for too. Keen to hear the Ozbargain peeps responses. Possibly cheaper similar products on AliExpress, but this should arrive quicker, probably a better chance of return if something is faulty too.

      Thinking out loud done right

I've thought I'd try one to fix to one of my Dad's cars I'm driving atm. For $144, how can you lose?? Especially buying through Amazon as you've suggested.

      • Yeah I grabbed one too. I'm putting it in a Japanese car that has one of those integrated head units so I lose climate controls etc by changing the stock unit, and outside of spending thousands to install a second unit + bypass factory amp etc. This will make life easier.

  • +7

FWIW I bought three AliExpress CarPlay headunits units for vehicles and they all work flawlessly. All wireless too.

      Link please

I tried to share but it said it’s a referral link but it wasn’t. Just search teyes and your car model number. It ships with the facade for you car too. Went from tiny basic oem thing to big screen with wireless CarPlay. I also got a wireless charger pad for the console so I can just throw the iPhone in there to charge while it’s carplaying.

    • I got one of these, the audio cuts out constantly and the maps freezes. Seems to only happen after its been running for 10 minutes, might have something to do with installing it on christmas and leaving it in a car in the sun for a week over the holidays

    • Was it difficult to install and were the instructions good?

  • +3

Finally I can TikTok in traffic!

While that is sarcasm, the rest of the features look great, think I’ll give it a go :)

  • How's this work, you install the rear camera externally?

    • +1

I have a similar unit (Eonon P4) and mounted the rear camera inside the rear window. Works very well.

      • interesting. i have a carpuride unit which came with a spare rear camera too but i thought that was meant to be connected to reverse gear. as our car already had a reverse cam, i didn't bother to use that one. did your unit advertise it as rear dash cam or did you just happen to use rear camera as a dash cam?

        • They advertised it as a 'rear camera'.
It only requires connection to a reverse light positive wire at the rear of the car to activate it as a reverse cam when reversing.
Power, video and reverse +ve (all in a single cable) still needs to be ran to the unit up front.

It works as both a rear dash cam and reverse cam with the guide lines (when reversing).

          • @Price Jack: i see thanks for the details. but if i am not keen to use it as a rear camera or fiddle with revers light wiring, can i still use it as a rear dash cam just by plugging it into the unit and just facing towards rear traffic?

I have this, I found it a bit tricky to mount it in the car (maybe it's my car dashboard), ended up buying a CD-ROM mount along with a plastic part that needs to be installed on the device and can say it's pretty stable (since sometimes it will still fall a but from the CD slot and I have to secure it again)
talking from android auto prospective, It's pretty good, since it'll save the battery consumption while using maps, also will show the media played and you can control everything from the screen.
It has the audio pass through feature, where you can still connect to your car for all the call features, (my car has a screen but without navigation)
so basically, you'll have your phone connected to your car, and to the device, you can still control the phone calls using your steering wheel, and have the display to show who are you calling while navigating.
if there are two drivers, the last driver connected will be the one to use the device, otherwise make sure to turn off Bluetooth before entering the car.
    Hope this is helpful.

    • Something like this that replaces the rear view mirror might be easier to install?
      https://www.amazon.com.au/Adelagnes-Dashcam-Wireless-Touchsc…

      • Surely they are probably not legal to use

    • Thanks for your review. Does this unit connect to your car Bluetooth? Does your phone connect to the unit via Bluetooth?

Is the audio passthrough via aux or fm or via Bluetooth?

These are good, but very similar units can be found on AliExpress for sub $100. I bought one for $85 during a pre-christmas sale (ozb filter won't let me post the link). Value for money is off the charts for some of these units.

Gone are the days of cheap Chinese tech being "you get what you pay for"… These days it's more like "you get way more than you pay for" (as long as you do a tiny bit of research).

  • Dm me link pls? For the one you bought

i'd highly recommend to check out reviews on youtube etc. particularly around boot up time, screen response time, connectivity issues, longevity of the unit etc. if you are willing to spend more for quality units or want more options for screen size, bluetooth 5.1 etc (which will allow to connect multiple devices simultaneously), you can compare out carpuride units too. so do some homework as these units can be a hit or miss. we got the carpuride unit with older bluetooth version and now in the hindsight, i feel we should have gone with multiple device connectivity option for BT but other than that it seems pretty good.

  • I tried one similar a year ago. While it functioned very well the screen was very dim with poor colour. I returned it

Good for a Tesla Model 3.

      Sounds like a fair swap.

I've been looking at this one for a while now. After using an old Samsung tablet for android auto, I decided to make the purchase when seeing it on sale. Noting that last week it said "2024" and now says "2025". I recieved it on Wednesday so only have had a few trips with it but works great so far. Boot time is literally 2 seconds, another 15 seconds to connect to Android auto. Front dash cam appears to be clear and can be accessed anytime. Yet to install the rear camera so can't say anything there.

Device works simultaneously for me with my phone being connected by Bluetooth to both the device and car, so audio goes directly through car speakers instead of device but allows me to control whatever I need by the device.

As others have mentioned, a lot of these are out there now especially alliexpress. I decided to go for this Amazon one for the Amazon return policy and the ease.

Should also mention, screen is clear and is very bright in day conditions

  • I bought something like this on AliExpress a couple months ago and it was literally just an android system where CarPlay and Android Auto were actual apps rather than being an integrated system. Was pretty tacky so I sent it back. I doubt this one is any different.

    • +3

Haven't you just described exactly what the unit is? What were you expecting? Something to compete with an integrated unit that will probably cost over $1k installed?

    • This sort runs on Linux, not Android.
The Android ones are more expensive and clunky. These sort are far better.

Here's an AliExpress version for US$39.86 without the rear camera and a couple dollars more for one.

It's an identical model the to the $169 Aldi model that some OzBargainers would swear is a bargain since Aldi is "limited."

    • Your get two for the price of one Amazon one though no effective warranty

  • I have an older car without an aux in on the radio. Would I be better off

    a) bluetooth FM transmitter
    b) one of those tape aux connectors
    c) other?

    ta!

    • (Previous comment deleted for using a referral link that wasn't a referral link)

If you look on AliExpress you'll find that there are units like this that are DIN sized head units that you can swap with a standard old style radio. Perhaps that would suit. Just search for "DIN Android Auto"

  • I bought one in August 2024 the back of the unit would get very hot felt like it was going to burn my fingers when I touched it and after running for about 2 hours it would freeze up and stopped responding till it cooled down, I sent mine back for full refund

  • I'm tempted by one of these, but have heard the sound quality generally sucks. Anyone who has one can confirm?

    • Using the built in speakers or fm transmission would be very average.
Bluetooth and Aux should be acceptable.

I have a similar unit, not this specific model.

  • Can anyone please confirm if the unit connects to the car Bluetooth and the phone connects to the unit via Bluetooth such that Android Auto works with car Bluetooth via this unit and phone calls with the car Bluetooth?

Usually these models have their own speaker and connect to car Bluetooth only via aux or fm both of which are typically poor and not seamless.

  • I have 3 of these types of units, 10.26 inch ultrawide unit, a 7 inch, a 9 inch. ALl of 'em have 4K font cam built in and separate 1080p rear cam. Purchased them from Aliexpress for anywhere from $100-$140, so this Amazon price here is not really a bargain.
