    Finally TCN Restaurant is back..

But Max 2 per day 🤔

    • waiting for the $500 cafe restaurant card:(

      • Yes, I am glad I stocked up on those.

        • +1

Won’t your discount be diminished the longer you hold them?

          • @HereToSave: You can use these every time you buy food or drink

            • +4

@impoze: What they mean is if you are just stocking up and don't use these cards within 2-3 years, then you have effectively lost the discount when comparing to what could have been gained from Interest.

              • -2

@wangasm: well if you're not going to restaurants, cafes, pubs, or clubs then of course.

      • ….. and waiting for Netflix gc in order to watch Squid Games 3rd season coming soon.

    • only $50 and $100 denominations though. Most eating places I know don't allow split payments. What do you do when the balance gets below say $5-10?

      • +1

I have a few places that will let me split payment as many cards as I need to.

Grill'd is one of them, as they are also on the Ultimate Eats card.
        Sushi Hub is another.

      • Breadtop for $3-$4 bread (1% sruchagre)

        • this is to use random leftover values like $0.73 or $1.28
You typically have to ask to do a split payment and specify the remainder value on the card.

          • +1

@impoze: I was replying the question about 'What do you do when the balance gets below say $5-10?'

        • I don't think Breadtop can do spilt payment though

      • Most places let you if you pay the remaining balance by cash.

      • yeah, so much trouble all the time :(
        cards failing, etc

    • A pity also that you can’t buy in denominations bigger than $100.

    • is this the same as good food? theyre usually on sale at 15% off

      • Good Food is not usable at all places based on MCC

        • oooh thanks didnt realise that was the case. might grab some

    • Have they previously imposed limits on TCN Restaurant card? Usually it's on variable ones don't recall on fixed denomination…

      • Nope.. first time I've seen the 2 card limit on non variable restaurant card

      • +2

Yes, the previous two deals at Woolworths for TCN Restaurant gift cards had a two-per-day purchase limit:

        • Could you use a family members WW rewards card to buy another 2 on same day?

        • odd, I must have bought my last batch from Coles as they didn't have a two-per-day limit.

  • Yes for digital version, haven’t seen 15% off that for a good while.

  • oooh are the hotels ones any good or are there better deals?

  • I never have Google Play, what can I paid with besides app in appstore ?

    • In-app purchases?

    • +1

google services (not sure about YouTube) but Google One/Storage works.

      • YouTube works too.

        • I've paid for the following:

          Youtube Premium
          Disney+
          Reading Eggs

Pretty sure it'll work for anything that can be done via in app purchase

    • Thanks for that, I dont use any paid google products. That's a no from me.

  • Someone told me the restaurant ones are glorified efptos cards and can be used anywhere. I will buy one to confirm and if not I'll use it at a restaurant.
I haven't been able to find a list of participating restaurants which makes me believe what I've been told.

    • well they're for eating, drinking places. That covers so many places.

    • have been using them for ages, haven't had it not work wherever I've tried it.

      • so supermarkets & petrol stations?

    • Depends on what the place has classified as their MCC (Merchant Category Code).
As above in the post it says:

Merchants around Australia categorised as Eating Places and Restaurants (MCC 5812) or Drinking Places (MCC 5813). Gift card subject to individual merchant acceptance. (Please refer to this table for more information.)

I've had the card not work at the odd places as they've misclassified. Most places it's been fine for me though.

  • Still no JB.

  • Quick question, can I link the restaurant gift card as the payment card for Eat Club?

    • +1

yes add it to your apple pay and then you can

    • +1

Yes put in straight on the app as payment it will treat it as 5812

      • Hi, which numbers should I add into eatclub pls? Card numbers are more than 16 digits so unable to add. Thanks !

        • physical eftpos gift card needs to be converted to digital mastercard

        • Convert to the digital version first, then get the card details from TCN app and add into EatClub app.

        • after purchase takes about 24 hours to activate

then go here to Go Digital https://choice.gift/pages/the-restaurant-card

but I usually like Good Food card as they are 15% off once a year and also can now convert to digital and use on eat club too

          • @Poor Ass: Thanks all for your replies! I added into eat club finally ! However since the denomination is only $100, does eat club allow spilt payment and still enjoy the same amount of payment please?

            • +1

@Cf2024: no you have to pay the full amount of the bill in one transaction if you want to enjoy the discount

you'll need to make a virtual card and attached it your phone wallet…. once you go to pay it will debit funds from the attached card e.g. TCN restaurant, Restaurant / Cafe Choice, Good Food digital

          • @Poor Ass: Does good food apply to all restaurants? What is it going to be 15% off usually please? It helps a lot to decrease cost during inflation. I'm new to Australia, and Oz bargain is super 😁

            • +1

@Cf2024: only apply to the ones that have the merchant codes 5812 which is determine on the machine when you pay and applies to most restaurants and cafes

most fast food is 5814 but sometimes you would go to a restaurant and even though they don't feel like 5814 and more like 5812 it will decline the good food

here's a good website for you to know when things will happen they usually very similar same time each year
              https://freepoints.com.au/gift-card-history/

              all the best

  • Maximum reload value for restaurant gift card is $500?

    • +2

The largest denomination I saw this evening at a Woolworths was $100.

I have never seen a $500 physical TCN Restaurant gift card at a Woolworths (or Coles, for that matter).

      • So $500 is not available?

  • Thanks OP been hanging out for Rebel GC discounts (I don't have Bupa etc) to buy this watch www.rebelsport.com.au/p/garmin-epix-pro-gen-2-51mm-sapphire—…

Purchased $1k Deluxe TCN cards for $900 at Woolies, then redeemed online at Rebel via Cash Rewards for 2.4% CB plus another $5 for Click & Collect.

    $1850 watch for $873.

    • Using those gift cards you wont see any of your 2.4% cashback 😞. Saying that can you use TCN and it doesn't count as a gift card?

      • You can use a TCN Deluxe gift card in-store at rebel and it would be processed as an eftpos SAV transaction, but you would then miss out on cashback from Cashrewards.

You cannot use a TCN Deluxe gift card online at rebel, because it is an eftpos-only gift card that does not support online transactions. However, you can exchange the TCN Deluxe gift card for a digital rebel gift card via the TCN website and then redeem the rebel gift card on the rebel website, but that rebel gift card is no different from any other rebel gift card…

        • +1

Ah well so no Cash Rewards but did get $49.60 active rewards from Rebel for being a member.

  • @WookieMonster Can Vanilla mastercard/visa gift cards be used to buy TCN Restaurant gift cards?

    • +1

The checkouts should allow you to do this.

    • +1

I used Vanilla Visa card to pick up 2x TCN restaurant cards today, no problem 👍

  • FYI, I emailed Endota and they said they do not accept the pamper cards!

    • If you're paying in store don't think you need to tell them you're using pamper cards? Just treat it as if you're paying with normal card?

    • I doubt they even know what a Pamper card is :)

  • I was talking to a mate of mine and he said that the Google Play store cards have trouble activating, I had a quick look on Reddit and they're having the same problem as well.

Some have had too email Google with the receipt and a photo of the Play store card & even then they still don't get activated.

    Anyone else had any trouble?

    • Bought one a few hours ago and just activated it with no issue.

  • Does anyone know if the TCN Deluxe can be purchased with the Woolworths Supermarket Gift Card?

Looking to stack this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/887985

    • +2

      sorry, they can’t

  • My wife went today could only purchase 2x restaurant card $100 cards there is no variable one and if she tried to buy 4 it only gave $20 discount so she bought 2 I’m going soon to get couple under my rewards card but I thought you could buy 10 per membership?

    • The deal terms and conditions clearly says that an Everyday Rewards member can only purchase a maximum of two TCN Restaurant gift cards at a discount per day.

For TCN Restaurant Card $50 and $100, TCN Deluxe Variable ($20-$500) and TCN Holiday & Hotel Variable ($20-$500) where you choose the amount to load, limit of 2 cards per day per Rewards Member.

      • I thought 50-100$ was 10 per day and loadable was 2 limit must of read it wrong

        • +1

That was the norm but Woolies changed it this time and I believe Coles will follow the same!

          • @TheMills: Yeah, just going to have to go back daily or use multiple rewards memberships

  • +1

Anyone else has issues to convert Restaurant gift card to digital version? I couldn't get it to work since yesterday.

    • +1

Have you tried registering your gift card before attempting to convert it?

      • No, has tcn changed rules? I will give it a try. Thanks very much.

        • What is the 8th digit of your card number? Is it a 0 or a 2 specifically?

      • Thanks, Wookie. It works now. I used to convert them to digital cards without registration, rules have been changed.

        • I’m glad to hear it worked!

I am not sure which has happened:

          • The rules have changed.

          • You encountered an error when trying to convert, and the workaround is to register the gift card first, because that somehow gets around the error.

        • They've changed the rules where you have to register first before converting- happened to me as well the last time I bought these (and I also used to be able to just convert without registering)

    • How soon after you purchased the Restaurant gift card to trying to convert it to the digital version?

Because I experienced something similar in the past when I tried to convert it to digital less than a hr after purchase and forgot to register. Nowadays I just wait until the next day to convert it to digital and don't need to register. For example, this morning I was able to convert a gift card I purchased yesterday to digital without registering it beforehand.

      • (I replied above before reading your reply

For example, this morning I was able to convert a gift card I purchased yesterday to digital without registering it beforehand.

Interesting observation- I will wait till tomorrow to convert to digital for the one I bought today and report back if it's the same (i.e. able to convert without needing to register first).

For 2x cards I bought yesterday, I registered and converted about 3-4 hours after purchase. Although I did register first, before converting from my previous experience last year.

      • Update: Nope not able to convert to digital before registering card- cards were bought a day and 2 days prior to conversion… 🤷‍♂️

  • +2

Also having trouble converting to digital.. never had issues in the past. I get the error message when converting: Card must be active to proceed

Update: figured out the issue! I’ve always used an older webpage which I accessed via Google, and started with https://cms.thecardnetwork.com.au/swapform/ (incomplete url)
That page had always worked for me, even last month, but it no longer works.
I had to convert to digital via this page: https://choice.gift/pages/the-restaurant-card#
(Scroll down to ‘go digital’) and it also worked even when I swapped unregistered cards!

    • need to wait 24-48 hours that's was my issue before converting

  • @WookieMonster I converted a TCN restaurant to a digital one and added to apple pay. I tried to pay the bill at the restaurant via Shopback in-store pay and selected Apple pay as payment method, then i chose the TCN restaurant card in the apple pay window, the transaction is rejected. Do you have any ideas what;s happening? I've checked ozbargain FAQ, TCN restaurant can be used at MCC 5812, and the Shopback in-store pay is also a MCC 5812. I remembered ( not 100% sure) that I can use the same method to pay several months ago, and confirmed that I can use Restaurant Choice card to do this recently

    • Do you have any ideas what;s happening?

It is most likely due to TCN blocking transactions at ShopBack on these gift cards. It looks like this started happening around October 2024.

What is the transaction description in the TCN app for the rejected ShopBack transaction?

confirmed that I can use Restaurant Choice card to do this recently

That is issued by a rival company, which strongly hints at TCN being the ones declining ShopBack transactions.

      • +1

thanks, it means i can't use TCN restaurant to pay my restaurant bill with Shopback :(
There is no error message in TCN app, just like the transaction has never happened. In my Apple wallet, the transaction is "rejected".

  • Can you buy the TCN Restaurant at the Self-Checkout with Special's Woolworths Visa card or must be at the Staffed ones?

    • +1

Self is fine. You are just paying with credit card.
