    For those eyeing on the TCN Restaurant card, personally I would pick up these at straight 10% off rather than points. Restaurant Choice is also a better card accepting both 5812/13 and 5814 whilst TCN Restaurant has in the past been restricted to 5812 only (I think it now works for 5814 also)

      The upside of TCN Restaurant card is that it can be added to Shopback and be used to buy Uber Eats gift cards. This is handy for when:
      1. Shopback has 10% cashback on their Uber Eats gift cards. So getting the TCN Restaurant while it's on special in the supermarkets and then buying the Uber Eats gift cards while it has increased cashback in Shopback means double stacking of the bonuses.
      2. The leftover dollars on TCN Restaurant gift card can be used with cashback money to purchase Uber Eats gift card. Say I have $7 left on my TCN Restaurant gift card and I have $13 cashback in my Shopback account. I would withdraw $10 from my Shopback account so that $3 cashback remains,. Then use the TCN Restaurant gift card and cashback to buy a $10 Uber Eats gift card. Even better when doing this when Uber Eats gift card has increased cashback.

          You can only buy a handful of gift cards on ShopBack using restaurant-related gift cards.

          ShopBack is unusual in that they change the MCC assigned to a transaction on their gift card portal. Only a few gift cards on ShopBack have reported using MCC 5812 or MCC 5814. If you want to know more, I suggest you have a look under the ShopBack entry here.

        @orangeblossom Also works for purchasing Doordash gift cards.
        Personally I've not tested purchasing any other Food gift cards in Shopback using this method but if Shopback charges for the gift card using MCC 5812/5814 then TCN Restaurant would also work as a payment for those other gift cards.

        @binscab To be able to use the TCN Restaurant GC online or in Shopback, make sure you first register then swap your TCN Restaurant GC to a digital version via TCN's website.

        Is it correct that this doesnt work with the Restaurant choice visa cards? I tried to add it to SB as a payment method to cash out the remaining balance through a uber eats HC, but the payment method is not accepted.

          @Voele Restaurant Choice gift cards cannot be added as a payment method in SB. Used to work until 1-2 years a year ago when SB changed something in their backend.

    Can you add several gift cards together to redeem/swap for rebel gift cards? I'm needing to make a purchase >$1k and wondering if I can swing it all with the gift cards.
    Says on website that 3 rebel gift cards redeemable in one transaction but to swap to rebel from the Party giftcard? Am I right in thinking they can only be exchanged for the same or a lesser denomination rather than adding them together before exchanging them for a rebel giftcard?

        For participating retailers that accept TCN gift cards in-store, a TCN gift card can be redeemed by swiping the physical TCN gift card on the EFTPOS terminal.

        To redeem a TCN gift card in-store, tell the staff member at the checkout you would like to use a card. Do not mention anything about gift cards, as a participating retailer's checkout system may not be able to redeem TCN gift cards if the checkout is expecting a gift card issued by the store itself. For example, if you ask a staff member at a JB Hi-Fi checkout you would like to use a gift card and you attempt to use a TCN gift card, the checkout will be unable to redeem the TCN gift card, as the checkout is expecting the staff member to scan the barcode a JB Hi-Fi gift card.

        This MAY explain why I couldn't pay with my TCN at Macpac recently. I left it to the staff member to process and I'm guessing he probably didn't know, as I didn't.

      It can be used any EFTPOS terminals or payment gateways at/for a hotel that use the correct MCC, subject to acceptance from the hotel.

      For example:

      • If you make a payment at the front desk, it should use MCC 7011.

      • If you make a payment at a restaurant or bar in the hotel, it may use another MCC (e.g. MCC 5812, MCC 5813).

      Whether you can use a Pamper gift card will also depend on whether the hotel will be happy for you to do that. The last time I stayed at a hotel, the front desk staff insisted that I had to use a physical card that had my name on it, and they grabbed my credit card off me to check the name on it and then tapped it on the EFTPOS terminal themselves. On my prior stay at the same hotel many months earlier, I used my credit card to pay the deposit at check-in, but then opted to use a prepaid gift card to pay for the actual stay at checkout (without asking for permission beforehand). The manager yelled at me for doing that.

          Other people who have used prepaid gift cards at hotels and motels and accommodation have had better luck than me, so you may be fine going to use a Pamper gift card as a payment method. I guess I have been unlucky myself!

          You will not be able to know what the MCC is for a transaction at a merchant until you give it a try, as the MCC assigned to a merchant or EFTPOS terminal or payment gateway can change at any time without notice.

          Managed to use the Restaurant Choice card (same MCC's allowed as Pamper card) at several hotels recently including the Hyatt Canberra, Oaks Adelaide Embassy Suites, Acacia Motor Lodge. Never raised any eyebrows. Just added the card to apple pay and tapped with my phone.

          The Pamper card can be turned into a digital card and added to apple wallet.

            I do think the Apple Pay would make a difference to a front desk then having to use a strange looking card/handing it over.

          The manager did not give me a clear reason as to why they reacted in that way, but I think that hotel in question wants to reduce their exposure to fraud, and they probably think that prepaid gift cards increase their exposure to fraud. If you think about it, prepaid gift cards are not associated with a verified cardholder, so the hotel has no way of knowing whether I am the cardholder, or I stole the gift card from someone else (or used stolen funds to purchase that gift card).

    FWIW TCN Party $40 denomination is pretty bad depending on what you want to redeem it for - I want to convert to JB cards, but as $40 isn't offered, I need to exchange $20 twice as you can't even redeem multiple cards at once.

    The MCC of besthoteldealsglobal.com is 7011 meaning the Pamper Card and Restaurant Choice/Cafe Choice cards can be used on it. Used it for a stay in Tamworth recently and it worked well.
